So! I have one week to prepare for a Steam Punk tea party. However I know there will be an abundance of Sky Pirates and Proper Ladies and I don't care to blend into either. I was thinking of perhaps adjusting my persona to make a Sea Sailor or a Submariner.

At any rate, I came across a beautiful sailor dress but on its own it isn't particularly steamy. Any suggestions would be immensely appreciated.

Here are pictures of the dress:

I second that. Also possibly a corset over top? though that might be a bit much...

A belt with pouches is also good, as well as sewing extra pockets into the fabric.

You could amp up the detail. Intricate detail is what the Victorians were all about, so it's a more personal and customizable way to add interest.

I would recommend matching lace and, if you have any knack for it, maybe some subtle needle work. For a belt, you could play up the nautical style by using a length of thick(maybe 1/2" diameter), cream-colored rope.

Personally, I would change out that ribbon under the collar for something with a more vintage feel. Add a nice hat and I think you'd be looking pretty good.

Also! This is my personal tip: you can steampunk out classic lace by going over parts of the pattern with metallic threads and metal beads or--if you have them--even attaching small cogs.

Honestly, i'm madly in love with that adorable dress as it is. Toss on some stripy socks or stockings and some cute shoes and it's done. biggrin I do hope you post pics of whatever you end up doing with it!

Lace gloves indeedy, though make sure they're fingerless.
