I was planning on spreading my own taste in music, specially the Norwegian part, since it doesn't seem to have spread much on its own... And we really have some great Norwegian bands! It's almost like a human right to hear some of them smile
I've allready mentioned some Norwegian musicians in my introduction, but if you don't know them I guess it's not easy to tell they're Norwegian smile Come Shine (is "on a break", but have three or four publiced albums) plays trad songs in untraditional ways, don't worry, it's not the free jazz version, just different. For the ones who likes nu jazz and such a duo consisting of Sidsel Endresen and Bugge Wesseltoft has made some fantstic songs, including a version of "The lady is a tramp" with thumbpiano... Jaga Jazzist plays electronical jazz, if you like this you might enjoy Skomsork aswell, allthough they're not a band, just a project ended years ago. African Pepperbirs play Africajazz but I'm not sure they've given out anything yet... And there's many more of course, but this are the ones I listen the most to.
I was also wondering if any of you had heard about them before, or maybe some other Norwegian jazz?

Orizion I have not! It sounds pretty interesting the way you describe it, tho! What is thumbpiano, I must know??? Is it easy to find their albums/ are they available in most music stores? I'm not sure about wheter it's difficult to find their albums in music stores. In Norway you would find both Come Shine, Jaga Jazzist and Sidsel Endresen/Bugge Wesseltoft in most record shops, but I don't know about Skomsork. What you could do is visit their websites. Most of them have samples you can listen to before buying etc. Now African Pepperbirds doesn't have any website and their albums pretty difficult to find, I haven't found it myself yet sad They're more of a live band I think. Come ShineBugge WesseltoftSidsel Endresen og Bugge WesseltoftSkomsorkJaga JazzistThis is a thumbpiano. I think it's an african instrument. If you want to buy albums all of them are available at the norwegian recordstore Platekompaniet. Enjoy biggrin

If the thumb piano is the african instrument I think you're talking about it, it's actually a pretty cool little thing. They're made of a flat wood surface on top (although the gourd style have a bowl bottom) with a piece of metal holding down metal keys that are shaped like elongated teardrops...in various lengths for various tones. I have a couple, they're pretty sweet. And they're called Mbiras, traditionally.
While I have heard of Norwegian wood, I can't say I've heard any Norwegian jazz. I'll check it out.

This morning I came to school, sleepy and tired getting ready for a nine hour schoolday where six are spent singing in a choir... I must admit I wasn't to excited. But that was before my saxplaying friend showed me todays newspaper... Sidsel Endresen and Bugge Wesseltoft are playing consert incredibly close to my hometown 1.february! I'm so happy I could dance... No, I really don't dance... Oh, what the heck, I'm dancing!

Not good for your voice either. sad I don't really know how to dance either, but I still like to dance. 3nodding

I'm pretty sure they get breaks if they do six hours of choir rehearsal. (I'm quite sure the idea is to train their voices and they'd know if they were going to be harming them)

It's like usual school actually, we even have some hours music history in between. And all the hours aren't actually ment for choir. It's three different subject which happen to involve choir for most of us... They're called, well, "leading an ensamble", "big production", and then there's usual choir... We're putting up Alice in Wonderland, that's the big production part
And we're allready quite trained when it comes to sining many hours on a row. Before christmas we put up The christmas oratorium (1-3.kantate) by Bach. Most songs we're finished during the weekend before our three conserts... Hehe, we got tubes to blow bubbles with in a bottle to relax our voices xd I think they know what they're doing though, they all have many years with education begind them, I haven't had any trouble with my voice. But I ended up being quite unfocused in the end...
My friends father has found tickets for us, so now I'm really exited!
