lucid_mirror How does it differ from Christianity? We do not have the same views on Shaytaan (Satan). Christians believe he was Lucifer, a fallen angel who defied God. In Islam, we believe he was a jinn who defied God. The difference is that we believe angels do not have free will & therefore cannot go against Allah. They completely submit to Him which is why we don't agree with the fallen angel aspect. A jinn is one created from fire, who are not inherently evil (means they're not demons) & have free will (just as humans do), but tend to be more haughty & hasty & mischievous in nature. We believe Iblis disobeyed Allah by not bowing down before Adam (mankind was created with more intelligence than angels & jinn which is why Allah ordered this, He knows all). He was then sent to earth because he made a deal with our Lord. He will be allowed to divert all of mankind until the day of judgment & will then be cast into Hellfire with all those who followed his way & did not turn to God. Judgment day will be the day where we all will find out where we go in the Hereafter because of our actions in this life. Hellfire is exactly that, fiery. There's no purgatory (as some Christian's believe), Hell is eternal. Once Allah has passed his fair judgment, Paradise & Hell will be inhabited forever. What else are you wondering about? I don't know exactly what to address. Hope this has been helpful.

Hot..!
oh and in islam... the believer will go to heaven even if he/she is somehow evil(sinfull) in this world... but in order to clean them and deserve heaven they have to experience hell first.... to clean them um.... sort of like.... only clean shirts go to the commode
the people (that i know) that will suffer eternal hells are 1. unbeliever 2. suicidal ( both muslim and unbeliever) 3. musyrik ( unbeleiver / muslims that worships other than Allah)
oh and btw islam tach us that we can go str8 to heaven if we are worthy enough in the biginning... if our good is more than our sin

lucid_mirror How does it differ from Christianity? I'd say that one big difference is just that hell is more descriptive in Islam. In Christianity, it's not very clear what hell is, such as if it's a place of torment, a place of rest, or just a metaphor. Later on you have guys like Dante who tried to give more details about what they thought that hell was like, but Biblically there isn't much basis for this. In Islam, on the other hand, you have a little more to go on. The Quran makes reference to hell quite a few times, always as a literal, fiery place with different level of punishments for people depending on what they did to cause them to go to hell. If you look up Hell on Wikipedia, it talks about the different interpretations of hell for different groups.
