Why does grape flavoring taste/smell nothing like real grapes?

Because it's cheaper to use a chemical taste.
They should put more effort into it if you ask me.
...
Or you just can't manipulate the great taste of real grapes!

Because at the dawn of time the food manufacturing companies were greedy for earthly wealth and too penny-pinching to offer sufficient ceremonial tribute to Dionysus. The god then cried out "Lo! For thy miserly tithe thou hast not won mine favor nor the key to the flavour of my patron fruits." And from that day on, the grape flavour was cursed by Dionysus and could never be replicated artificially.
