Your wish has been granted... albeit not quite what you'd expect. The relic has been taken, and a child has been left in its place!

It was a little over eight hours later that Kyrianna was walking down the street, her black boots clicking against the cement and her black trench trailing behind her, half opened. She looked dead tired - as well she should be - dealing with other people's problems for eight hours straight.

The feline girl was looking forward to a much deserved nap and cup of hot cocoa by the fire when she finally managed to get to her little house. Maybe she'd eat that jelly-bean shaped crystal just to spite it.

What she saw when she got to her doorstep was not what she was expecting. There were more footsteps leading up to the stoop and the necklace was gone. Her shiny was gone! She didn't even notice the child at first, sleeping and curled up in the fetal position and probably quite happy in the cold weather.

She didn't notice her until she almost stepped on her going into the house, fuming that her shiny icicle was gone.

"What the Fu--" she started, blue eyes going wide at the tiny little thing, "Did my crystal finally...?" She blinked and then shook her head. The child looked more like winter rather than autumn.

What was she, Mother Nature? Did the seasons just HAPPEN to want her? And if so, where was Summer and Spring? Why did she have to get the COLD seasons?!

Her white-furred tail gave a small flick of annoyance as she bent down to pick the little changeling up, cradling her carefully against her body. Despite the fact she wasn't happy about being thrown into what she assumed to be motherhood. Afterall, wasn't that what a baby on the doorstep meant?

Well, it was Gaia. Strange things happened every day - like that damned crystal which was always in the back of the feline's mind. Despite her saying she hated it, she had grown rather fond of the thing.

Which she hated.

But this wasn't the time to be thinking about the other kid.

"So. I'm a mother squared..." she said softly, eyes gazing at the sleeping mass in her arms. The soft blue and white of her hair made Kyri's lips turn upwards and the tear-shaped marks on the girl's cheeks just added more beauty to her.

"Ahh..Ice..I'll call you Eirwen. Tonight you'll sleep with me, tomorrow I'll go out and blow my paycheck...Urm...What's left of it."

The girl just snuggled into her and sucked her thumb.

Ah...Yes...This would be interesting.

Kyrianna walked down the street, black and silver boots clicking upon the cement as she made way towards the baby supply store. Her black trench coat was trailing behind her, caught in the wind, along with her silver hair. In her arms was a lightly blanketed Eirwen looking rather uncomfortable at the warmth, tiny thumb stuck into her mouth to keep her contentened. Kyrianna had already become quite aquainted with the child's energetic side in the short time she had her.

"At least you're being calm," Kyri muttered, looking more at the child then where she was going, "So help me if you start to squirm and wiggle again I'll end up dropping you..."

God. How was she going to handle TWO children, roughly the same age?

Deirdra Coudray was tired of working at the damn pizza shop she was stuck at. She wanted a job with kids, because kids were absolutely adorable to the quarter-demon. She loved kids! However... She was currently stuck at the pizza shop until she could find a better place to work at. Right now, the possibility of that was slim. And damnit if she was going to have to depend on her parents, her demonic ego would just... die.

She looked down when she felt her phone vibrating, and fished the cellphone out, flipping it open. She rolled her eyes slightly and hit the 'accept' button, looking up again as she talked. Just in time to almost run into someone. She let out a squeak and quickly verred to the right, to avoid bumping into the woman and the... baby?

Deirdra looked faintly annoyed at her almost accident. "I'm so sorry. Are you alright?"

Kyri managed to half dance out of the way, her sensitive cat ears picking up the fact someone was coming towards her. She did get bumped against the wall, however, though it was thankfully her shoulder and not her front. Of course the entire actions caused the ice-child to start wailing, her cries more like nails on a chalk board than a child's cries. Kyri's white ears flattened down to her head and she winced, "Ah bloody hell."

Her blue eyes lifted to look at the woman, an annoyed and pained look on her face. Not only did her shoulder hurt, she had set Eirwen off, "Turn it off! YOU TURNED IT ON! TURN IT OFF!"

She looked faintly amused. "Not used to having a baby?" She asked, reaching out for the child patiently. Deidra was good with kids, it wasn't a problem. "Let me see..." Deidra watched the baby patiently, flinching slightly at the screaming. Her sense of hearing was heightened a little. Not as much as her mother, but still...

"Do you have a bottle or anything for the kid?" She frowned.

"Bottle? No. She just showed up on my doorstep yesterday and I haven't the...." another wince as another burst of energy hit the changeling, her wails becoming louder, "OH JUST TAKE HER!" she pushed the child carefully at Deidra, ducking into the baby supply store to escape the crying. It wasn't much better, but any change was a change - and very appriciated. Both hands went up to clamp down on her sensitive ears.

Deidra held the baby gently and shifted the blanket, rubbing her back gently as she held her against her shoulder. "Shh, now, child." She muttered gently, rubbing her b ack as she went into the store, looking around. "It's alright, shhh." Deidra was patient with Eirwen, eyes soft as she carried the baby inside, looking around. "Are you hungry, little one?" She pulled Eirwen away from her shoulder to look at her, smiling a little.

At the rubbing Eirwen's wails faded into soft, unhappy whimpers. She hadn't liked the jolting about, especially when she was JUST getting comfortable in the new woman's arms, "Agoobah..." she said, reaching out for her as she was pulled away, ice blue eyes glittering with curiosity.

Kyrianna stared at them, her ears returning to their perked state as her hands slowly removed, "I swear if she starts crying again..." she harumphed. She loved kids - she did - but she didn't want any of her OWN....She didn't know what to do with her OWN...at least with others she could hand them back to their parents.

She laughed quietly. "She will. It's just a matter of gauging what she wants." She pulled Eirwen back to her shoulder, holding her comfortably. "What's her name?" She watched the baby with an amused look in her eyes. Then she blinked, and held her hand out, balancing Eirwen carefully. "My name's Deidra. I'm really sorry about almost walking into you." She grinned sheepishly.

"Eirwen. Her name's Eirwen...At least, that's what I call her. She had no name tags or anything when she was left..Not even a ******** blanket. And it was COLD outside! Can you believe that? Then again she seems to whine in warm climates while I hate the cold...I have no idea how I'm going to manage THAT one..." she sighed and ran her hands through her mane of silver hair. As she moved the sight of the silver piercings in her ear came into view, glinting in the light. A moment later she was staring at the hand, lifting her own to shake it, "Kyrianna. And it's fine."

She smiled and shook her hand, then eyed Eirwen. "Well, she seems like a sweetheart." She looked over, amused. "What do you have to get for the baby, anyway? Everything?" That would take a damn lot of money and a bit of room to move it all. She played with Eirwen calmly, smiling as she played with her. She looked over. "Just appeared out of nowhere, huh?" She smiled and watched Eirwen. "I'd love to have a kid just dropped out on my doorstop." She snorted. "Must sound crazy, though. Kids're sweethearts." She grinned over at Kyrianna.

"Yeah...Everything. She's naked and that blanket is a cut up version of an old quilt I found in a trunk in my attic." she laughed softly then and shook her head, "Oddly enough, I have another kid on the way. Born from a crystal. Hasn't hatched yet and I've had it for...a long time," she looked a bit confused, "Supposed to be a fairy...Don't know if it's a boy or girl..but I have a rather decently sized house with three extra rooms...so I figured...Hell, I'll just decorate when the damn thing comes. But jeeze, this thing just...Oy.." she looked rather confused, "I didn't ask for this....I love kids...But my own?" she shuddered.

She laughed, and shook her head. "Well, if you want, I could help you pick things out for Eirwen." She grinned at the baby, before looking over at Kyrianna. "If you wouldn't mind the help of a random stranger." She grinned sheepishly, rubbing her neck as she watched Kyrianna. Her orange eyes gleamed slightly as she watched her, waiting patiently for the acceptance or decline of the invitation. She doubted Kyrianna would turn it down, though. She seemed a little skeptical about the baby Eirwen

"Urm...Sure, I guess. I've got a good paycheck this month...It should be more than enough to cover the baby things. I hope." she looked a little hopeful on that one, not sure how much an entire room of baby supplies and furniture would require, "I mean, I make...$300 an hour...ish." She smiled weakly at that one, "Eight hours a day, 5 days a week...." she trailed off.

"......" She stared, eyes wide. "What do you do? Jeez. I make $6 bucks an hour working at a pizza place." She made a face. "Six days a week, seven hours." She grumbled, and played with the baby, smiling. She shrugged. "How much do you have?" She glanced over. "I'd worry about furniture first, though. And then clothes, and a few bottles might help." She smirked at Kyrianna slightly, but looked around after a minute. "Cribs'n stuff're this way. C'mon." Deidra started over towards the section were they had a bunch of cribs set up on display.

"I'm a psychiatrist..." she said, brightly smiled, "Three hundred an hour isn't nearly enough to deal with half the problems I hear every bloody day." she coughed and took the child into her arms, deciding it was best she bonded with the child rather than another. Eirwen immediately made a whimper of protest before settling into Kyri's arms again, "So I think, after everything else I've spent on...Investments...Etc...I have about ....10 grand?" she blinked.

"......" She shook her head, and laughed quietly. "So I think you should have more'n enough to buy everything you need for the baby." She looked faintly amused. "And I feel poor in comparison. Yeesh." She looked around, and then nodded. "Well, here're the cribs, so... Best bet is to let Eirwen pick out the one she likes. She'll probably sleep better that way." She grinned at Kyrianna sheepishly.

"Urm...How am I supposed to do that?" The poor cat girl looked completely out of her league amidst all the baby furniture and Eirwen seemed a little wide-eyed as well. Not that she knew what was going on, but there were pretty colors! Her little hands gave a small clap and she giggled a bit, drawing Kyri's eyes down to her, "Mmph...Stop being so cute..." despite her gruff voice, there was an obvious look of affection on her face.

She laughed, and shrugged. "Just... walk to a crib and sees if she likes it?" She laughed. "Like, this one." She walked over to an oak-wood crib with a purple baby bed in it. "You just... see if she likes it. I'm pretty sure she'll make sure you know if she likes it." Deidra laughed quietly.

Kyrianna walked to the crib that Deidra had gone to and looked at it carefully. It was pretty - but it didn't catch any bells in Kyri's mind. Obviously it didn't catch any in Eirwen's either, because the baby just stared at it with wide eyes.

"Seems like she don't like it. Sooo." She grinned at Kyrianna. "You pick one, and see if she likes it." She nudged the woman, grinning. It was a cool idea for the two to bond, see if they shared any tastes in something. Even cribs.

Kyrianna thought a moment, taking into consideration the child's preferences in cold things. Perhaps she'd like something white? Kyri strolled over to a white and pink baby crib, promptly coaxing a grunt from Eirwen. Apparently they shared that in common - pink was out.

She laughed quietly and watched the two stroll to the white and pink crib. She noted the grunt of dissatisfaction, and grinned slightly, shaking her head. "Guess that one's out too, then?" Deidra smirked in amusement

"Guess so. Thank GOD she doesn't like pink. I think I would have shot something. Or someone. Or...Whatever." Kyri smiled a bit and walked to a pink and purple crib - promptly being rejected as well. In fact, Eirwen didn't seem too satisfied with ANY of the cribs. Kyri looked a bit put out, "Wish I could get one crafted out of ice or something. She seems cranky if she gets too hot...And...Meh, I refuse to make my house subartic temperatures."

"Hm.." She frowned. "You could get one crafted outta ice. I mean, if you have an air-conditioner installed in the baby's room, you should be able to keep it cold all year round." She rubbed her neck curiously. "And then it'd only be that room, if you keep the door closed." She grinned at Kyri curiously.

Kyri thought a moment, "It's gaia. Couldn't someone put like...a spell on the ice to make it urm..not ever melt?" Her tiger ears perked up, "Then again that could...probably cost a lot more money than I'd be willing to spend at this time...." she paused and bit her lip, "Hmmm...Well..."

"Well..." She looked curiously. "You could probably get someone to cast a spell to keep it cold." She rubbed her neck, thoughtfully. "I know a couple of mages that might do it." She frowned and rubbed her ear, tugging at the chain that went from the top of her ear to her earlobe, connected by two silver piercings.

"For how much though?" she laughed and shifted the child, who was starting to get a little cranky. The blanket was getting a bit too warm for the frost-fairy's taste, and she was rather vocal about it, her whimpering growing louder. To keep it from a full-out wail, Kyri slid the blanket off of her and looked down at the blue-hair blue-eyed beauty, "Hmph. I can't help the heat, baby."

She snorted. "Not a penny." Deidra grinned. "You shouldn't have to pay to keep your baby comfortable." She replied simply, shrugging. "I can talk to one of the guys later and see if they'll do it." She grinned. "It shouldn't be too much of a problem on their end." Deidra stuck her tongue out. "It sounds fairly simple..."

"Mm...Well I'd appriciate that..." Eirwen looked over to Deidra and smiled sweetly, now that the blanket was off. She wasn't uncomfortable anymore, but she was a little hungry. She hadn't eaten...since...she didn't know when. She could hold on a little longer, though. It was as if she knew her new mother was doing all she possibly could.

Kyri blinked, "Ee...I don't know if that smile holds malicious intent or not."

Kyri raised a brow, "I don't think she'll LIKE clothes, but I can't exactly let her go around naked in just her diaper, can I? I mean..." she really had no idea...A sigh, "What about a changing table? And...stuff like that?"

"Furniture-y stuff?" She grinned, and looked around. "This way." She started leading Kyrianna with her towards the furniture. Changing tables and the like

"You act like you've been in here before, a lot," Kyri noted, shifting the girl in her arms to give her the least amount of warmth - simply against her shoulder. Eirwen relaxed and nuzzled at her, closing blue eyes to enjoy it. Mmm. Cold air of movement.

Eirwen shrugged. "My sister has three kids. I was here when they were shopping for the babies." She grinned over at Kyrianna sheepishly. "I don't have any kids, but I've got three nieces and a nephew."

"Ahh. I see. Travel around gaia enough and you'll get kids. They come from everywhere here, seriously. I don't think anyone is safe.." she made a little face as she followed the woman.

She laughed and shook her head. "I've been tryin', but I haven't found any kids homeless yet." She smirked slightly and shook her head. "None that wanna be adopted anyway." Deidra shrugged, and looked around the furniture section. "So... Well. This is the section where you'll find dressers'n changin' tables and stuff." She grinned sheepishly.

"I'm not surprised." Deidra snorted, and watched the baby. "I kinda figured if she liked the cold, she'd like blue. It's usually the color associated with cold things."

"That or she'll do her momma proud and be a tomboy..." she smirked a little bit

She laughed. "Either or. Or both!" Deidra grinned at Kyrianna, and shrugged, watching Eirwen. "If she likes blue, I bet it'll make things damn easier to buy."

"Yeah. I can't stand pink. IF she liked pink I don't know what I'd do." she made a face and blinked, "Urm. I don't think that will fit in a cart."

"No, no it won't." She laughed. "I'll go get someone to help you." Deidra stretched and looked around for a clerk to help them. She spotted one and grinned. "I'll be back in a sec." She turned and headed off to get the clerk.

Kyri nodded and sat Eirwen on the table, "You like that, little one?" She asked, a small smile on her face as she watched Eirwen's joyful expression. The cool feeling of the wood against bare skin made her giggle.

"I'll take that as a yes.."

It was well into the night by the time Kyrianna managed to drag herself home - laden with bags and a very cranky little Eirwen strapped to her chest in one of those baby-purse-things that Kyrianna didn't know the name of. She had spent the entire day, mostly with Deidra, picking out baby clothes and products and furniture.

It was a pain in the a** having a kid.

The movers would be bringing the furniture in the morning and actually setting it up for her as well - which she was thankful for. As resourceful as the feline girl was...Well, putting things together was not her strong point. She had once made a bird house (with easy put together instructions) look more like a third grade art project with nails which would surely skewer any potential occupants.

It had gone directly into the garbage and promptly given the garbage man stitches.

More than two thirds of her paycheck had been blown on the baby supplies. It wasn't that she was complaining - it was more like her questioning how she was going to pay the bills this month and if she could get another extension. Last pay check she had bought herself a car.

Stupid since the woman didn't know how to drive. She had told herself that she needed to learn, though. Who wouldn't with a kid on the way? Doctor's appointments, frequent trips to the store...And while Kyri didn't mind walking, persay, she thought it'd be kind of hard with a screaming, cranky baby.

Or worse - a screaming, cranky, MOBILE Toddler.

"Okay, Eirwen," Kyri murmured, stroking the little girl's head. She knew her body heat was higher than normal due to struggling with the twenty-some bags held in almost every feasible place and that it would irritate her, "Lets get you and these things inside and I'll turn on the air real cold, okay?"

She didn't expect the little girl to understand her but was rewarded with a soft gurgle of happiness from the blue-haired child.

It was enough to make the feline smile.

"Eh, maybe it won't be so bad afterall..." she trailed off as she finally managed to unlock the door and stumble inside the cold house; bags dropping immediately to the floor with a little pant.

"Welcome home, Eirwen. Let's get you into the bedroom and settled so I can go put this stuff away, hmm?"

Kyri left the bags where they were - door open - and started towards the bedroom in the back of the house. It was a nice room, really. Just not baby proof.

Eirwen was unstrapped and gently laid in the dip of the large water bed Kyri slept on to help her back, pillows formed around her in a fortress to keep her from rolling off.

"I'll be back little girl."

The feline slipped out of the room and down the hall to make her way into the living room, shivering a bit. Leaving the door open may not have been the best idea - it was cold outside. She was about to close it when a slip of paper she must have missed caught her eye.

Obviously, her being a cat, was curious. She HAD to see that little piece of paper.

So she picked it up, finding writing scrawled over the white colored sheet.

"Changeling?"

It seemed to have some directions to a shop as well..."Peculiar...Mmph. Well I'll be damned..."

Tucking it into her bra for future retrieval, Kyri picked up the bags, closed the door, and moved to get ready for bed.

She could deal with everything else in the morning.

Eirwen had settled into her new home after a short time, her disposition changing from a crying, easily annoyed brat to a sweet heart in that time. Kyrianna figured it was the fact that she was being put into a new place.

Currently, she was laying on the couch mesmorized by a new light-show toy that Kyrianna had splurged on. She had found out that the frost fae was easily distracted by lights - especially of those which resembled Aurora Borealis. Which, Kyrianna figured, made sense considering her nature.

Picking up her pen, Kyrianna made herself comfortable at her work desk, pausing only to look at the child. She really did look like she was enjoying herself which relieved the feline woman of the guilt she felt for not playing with her. She turned and placed the pen to her journal she had decided she should keep;

Quote:
Dear Journal,

Eirwen has been growing slowly and steadily. She's slowly getting used to heat, though still can't stand being warm for too too long. Not only that, she still refuses to wear clothes other than a cloth diaper. Ocassionally I can convince her to wear this light guaze dress that I had specially made - but not often.

I cringe to think of how she'll be when she gets older. Maybe it's just a stage and she'll eventually grow out of the sensitivity to heat. Or, in the least, be able to tolerate more. The house is already like an igloo and I'm constantly wearing my winter clothes.

It's surreal, being a mother. I wasn't prepared for it and it just dropped on my door. I haven't seen Arta and the crystal hasn't 'hatched' so I've been able to spend all the time I have outside of work with the little one. I'm afraid the heartless b***h has actually grown to love something.

I'm hoping she'll meet some new people soon. She needs interaction or she'll become a recluse like her mother. Not exactly an entertaining passing of time to sit alone.

A little giggle from Eirwen snapped her out of her personal thoughts and she set the journal and pen down, moving towards the couch to play with her daughter.

The writing was left unfinished and forgotten as she lost herself in a childish game of Peek-A-Boo.

It had been far too long since Trio had set foot near the small building she'd first met Jaden at. And really, she was feeling rather guilty about it, as she watched the two girls look around. Annora seemed to know where she was, to a point - she went to the door and knocked lightly, big eyes peering up curiously before deciding that clearly, no one was coming to the door and she should just go play in the yard. Makana, whose attention span was slightly longer than Annora's gnat-span, remained before the door for another ten seconds or so before catching sight of a butterfly flitting around some spring flowers nearby. Immediately, her ears perked up, and she crept closer, tail swishing behind her.

And Trio, who had brought them both in the hopes that getting away from some of the packing and insanity might do good, decided to flop down in the grass, a bundle of dark blue fur draping against one leg with chilling comfort.

This was...actually...unfortunetly... the first time Fern had ventured to the place where that card had indicated. Liusaidh was cuddled against her mothers chest comfortably, beaming up at her with a baby smile. Fingers knotted with spiderwebs flexed against Ferns white shirt, red hair peeking over her shoulder at the upcoming building and the....people? outside of it.

The kids didn't look too much like human (or even faerie or dragon) kids.

Fern paused a few yards from the playing kiddlets and the sprawled out woman, chewing at her lower lip worriedly. "....uhm. Excuse me? I'm looking for a place where I got...this one.."

All the time, her mind was racing with thoughts of: ....holy mother, was that little girl a cat?

Kyrianna made her way up to the cottage, her silver hair pulled back in a loose pony tail to keep her two daughters from attempting to make her go bald. Eirwen was currently strapped to the front and Eires was sitting on her shoulder, autumn wings twitching every now and then.

"Home." the little girl demanded, brushing her blonde hair away from her face as she tugged on Kyri's. She didn't WANT to be outside - she wanted to be at home. At least at home she could bother Eirwen without Kyri so much as noticing.

Eirwen, it seemed, was squirming rather uncomfortably in the baby sling. Her blue eyes were clouded with annoyance, and the frost child was definitely in a bad mood if her fists pounding at Kyri's chest showed anything.

"Eires, Eirwen, stop it," the feline's voice rang out as she stopped, seeing the group of people outside. More people this time, thankfully.

And nobody bumped into her! A miracle.

"Hello?" she asked softly, shifting Eirwen in the sling so the cool air could hit her more directly then the heat from her body. It seemed to calm the girl down and her eyes closed.

Coldness was good.

Well, perhaps Etain looked like a fairy... And in all actuality, she was a sylph.

She was also flying full-tilt towards Trio, happy to see her mother, but when she saw Fern, she stopped short before darting back behind her father as Shiromaru walked into the yard. The water demon paused where he was, then broke out into a huge grin, unable to keep from laughing aloud.

Trio blinked, looking up at all the newcomers. Either they had radar, or she'd just come at a good time. She figured on the latter for all but one, smirking as she waved at her fiance. But it was Fern she turned to, eyes sharp as she gentled her smile. Clearly, this one was new to parenting a Changeling...

"Hi. I'm Trio," she offered brightly, getting to her feet and sticking out her hand.

Not far away, Makana's ears swiveled, the sound of a rather feline voice catching HER attention. The sound made her feel odd in the pit of her stomach, and before she could credit it, the normally shy abyssinian was heading over to stand just at Kyrianna's side, peering up at the woman.

Oh s**t. People. Lots of people. The former mercenary jumped just slightly, blinking and tightening her grip on her new - her only - child. "I'm Fern..." Her voice was slightly low, shifting Liusaidh to one hip so she could shake Trios hand firmly.

That's what humans did on Gaia, right? Fern thought so... She hoped so. Otherwise she just seriously ******** up.

"Uhm.. this is Liusaidh."

The little redheaded girl beamed at Trio, fingers flexing in a faint unfurling motion. She knew how to wave! Wave meant hi!

Kyrianna smiled down at the little girl, "Well, hello there!" it wasn't too often the woman saw a full cat anthro - hell, it was rare (strange enough) that she even met another person who had feline features. Then again, she didn't exactly go out much.

She was perfectly content to stay holed up in her house or work. At least with work she got to play with people's minds.

In the most professional sense of the word.

Eires spread her wings and fluttered down, sitting down on her shoulder. She was prettier than her mother was, and besides, she would be further away from her "older" sister. Considering Eires was very tiny (A fairy, after all!) she could do so without hurting Makana any, "Hi!" she giggled, giving a small bounce as she tickled the girl's ear, "Eir..Eir...es!"

She was still getting the hang of talking.

Eirwen, however, was quite amused at the sight of everyone - especially the little red headed girl. So many new people! She wanted OUT of the carrier, darn it! Giving another squirm and a firm squeal, she lashed out at Kyri again.

"Argh, fine you little terror, I'll let you out, okay?" she quickly pulled the girl out of the carrier, unbuckled it, and let it fall to the ground. It was uncomfortable anyway, "Where to, huh?"

Eirwen giggled as the cool air rushed over her almost completely naked body, "Googah!"

"I don't know what Googah means..." she sighed, "Anyone know what Googah means?"

At least she wasn't crying this time.

"Not in my baby dictionary yet, sorry," Shiro offered cheerfully as he joined the group.

Etain, ever shy in front of strangers, stayed behind -- she couldn't get into trouble around here. Unless, of course, there was... "Annora!"

The little siren had been cheerfully playing by herself, utterly oblivious to the others for the moment, but before her name had completely cleared Etain's mouth, she'd jerked around, scrambling to her feet to run at Shiro and Etain.

"Last I checked, it meant ground... sky... food... change... it's a very versatile word," Trio said, seeming to pay little attention to Fern's handshake beyond returning it. "Hey there, cutie," she added, turning back to the child at hand. "Aren't you beautiful?"

Makana held VERY still as the fairy settled down on her shoulder, one hand going to the front of her coveralls to shelter the pocket on her chest even as wide golden eyes watched Eires. "Eir Es?" she tried softly, ears nearly flat against her skull.

As he looked between the others, Sankouri quickly decided the two who would likely need the most herding were the siren and her tag-along sylph. Knowing Trio was busy, he padded over, green eyes as cold as his fur.

Cutie? Oh. She meant Liusaidh. Thank the gods. Fern didn't want to deal with her jealous lover more then one or twice in a lifetime.

She smiled faintly, fingertips tugging at the wavy red hair of the banshees head. Liusaidh knew very little other then when she talked, her mommas got upset... so she didn't gurgle or babble as babies were prone to doing. Instead, she smiled ("It's not just gas, Fern! She's smiling!") at the Trio, fingertips moving to grab at her.

"Are.. uhm... Do you know what she is?"

Eires gave a small nod of her head. She didn't know many words, and her name was the hardest of them all to day. Eye-Reese. Eyyyyeeee - Reeeeese. She could still remember Kyrianna saying it over and over again. Still, she insisted on pronouncing it "Iris"

It was easier, darnit! "You?"

Kyrianna made a face, "Mmph, well, I'll take it as 'ground' right now," she muttered, setting Eirwen on the soft grass - which made the baby giggle as she flopped backwards against the blades which were slightly wet, "Thank you."

Leaving the frost child to do what she would, Kyri stepped over to the cluster of adults, "I'm Kyrianna, the frost imp over there is Eirwen...I swear, my house is an igloo. The fairy currently on the sweet little girl's shoulder is my second daughter, Eires. Autumn." she tilted her head.

"I'm waiting for Spring and Summer to show up on my doorstep, to be honest...And to answer your question, I uh...I think she's a Changeling. If you got a card with directions here, anyway..."

Eires looked over to her sister who was currently rolling around in the grass and sniffed, "Sis. Strange."

Eirwen ignored the Autumn fairy and simply picked a piece of grass, raising it to her mouth to chew.

Kyri glanced over, "Uhm, I'm rather new to this. Grass shouldn't be eaten, right?"

No, Kyri, it shouldn't. Stupid question.

"Depends on whether or not you have a centaur-type child, I suppose. I'm Shiromaru," the demon offered, nodding to Fern and Kyrianna. "It's nice to meet you all."

Etain sank down to the ground, then closed the last few paces between herself and Annora, hugging the other girl gleefully. If Annora was there, then everything was okay!

...Maybe they'd be needing Sankouri's assistance in keeping them out of trouble, after all.

Trio chuckled wryly at the question, shaking her head even as she let Liusaidh's fingers wrap around one of her own. "Not a clue," she informed Fern cheerfully. Jaden would know, but as he didn't seem to be around, she figured it was best not to hazard any guesses. "What does she like?"

Annora wrapped her arms around Etain in a brief, hard hug before pulling away and grabbing Etain's hand, tugging the sylph off without saying hi to the adults. She'd found a nest of ants not far away, and the small hill definitely deserved attention.

Sankouri started to follow them, but at the sound of the word frost, his head came up, and he peered toward the small child on the ground. Hesitating only a moment, he padded over, sniffing at her curiously.

"Not a clue?" Fern almost deflated at that remark, watching as her daughter started to gum at one of Trios fingers with a giggle.

Giggles didn't seem to kill things..but o utright laughter, blathering and the like...that did. The grown woman was terrified it would happen here, hurting one of the kids or something. "She.. well. She likes chewing things like fingers." Fern shrugged, "And wool. She likes being covered by thick stuff."

Kyrianna bowed her head lightly, "A pleasure to meet you, Shiromaru. She wasn't good with meeting new people outside the office, but so far so good. She hadn't made a complete fool of herself.

Though the way she looked, she'd be the last person you'd expect to have children. Peircings, black trench coat, slightly darker expression.

Eirwen looked up to the creature which came up to her and giggled softly as he sniffed. That tickled! The frost fairy reached out, grabbing some of the thing's fur carefully (not enough to hurt! She just wanted to pet!) and smiled gleefully. He was cold! And fluffy! and CUTE!

Where could SHE get one of these?

Comparatively speaking, Shiromaru didn't look like one's usual idea of a father, either -- dyed, long hair; short shorts; boots; earrings... He looked more candypunk than anything else.

At least for today.

A grin was shot at Kyrianna, then Shiro's attention was diverted to Fern and her comments. "Some babies do. And is she teething right now? That might explain her gnawing habits. But I have no idea what she might be, either... though if we can get an answer from inside the house at some point, someone in there might know."

Etain floated over the ant hill a few inches, poking at the ants with a fingertip and giggling when they crawled over her hand. "Big ants," she announced, sagely. "What are we gonna do with'm?"

"Watch 'em," Annora said, pitching her voice to be soft. In deference to the fact that they couldn't actually SEE inside the anthill, she grabbed a stick and poked a hole in it. "See?"

Trio was normal looking enough - a warm blue sweater that bared enough of her midriff to leave people wondering what the point of it might be and grey slacks with black boots were entirely too plain compared to Shiro. She wore some jewelry, including a glowing necklace that seemed designed to capture the attention of anyone with crow-syndrome. "So far, you've described about ninety percent of the kids out there. Anything special, like a super-strong voice or anything?" she asked gently, unconsciously looking over at the quiet siren before returning her attention to the adorable girl.

Sankouri's eyes narrowed as his fur was grabbed, and he blinked when he realized it wasn't being yanked. Curious about this entirely too courteous child, he settled down near her, curling his body still sniffing at her.

Makana had finally moved, edging away from the feline to go press against Shiromaru's side, her arms wrapping around his leg. That voice made her feel almost sad...

"Uhm...she kills things when she talks." Her voice was hesitiant, "I think she does, anyway. When she blabbers or anything...things fall down dead outside or nearby." Fern shrugged quietly, watching the girl and her daughter.

Liusaidh, tired of finger, released Trio and shoved her fist into her wide little mouth. She sucked at her fingers and spiderwebs, giggling once more.

Eirwen gave a happy little squeal as the cold creature curled around her, using her arms to maneuver herself so her head was on his body and her little fingers could pat at his fur. Of course, the movement caused her longish white and blue hair to fall over her eyes, which temporarily blinded her.

With another squeal, this time a little shocked, she shook her head in an attempt to fix the problem. Unfortunately, it made it worse.

"Googah!" she whimpered, shaking her head again. The hair was annoying!

Eires, however, remained on Makana's shoulder and looked up at the man she was currently clinging to with bright green eyes. Oh! He looked interesting! Fluttering her wings she left the feline's shoulder and took residence on Shiromaru's, giggling.

"Hi!" she greeted, cheerfully.

Automatically, Shiro set a comforting hand to Makana's just-vacated shoulder, keeping her close; his attention, however, settled on Eires, golden eyes blinking at green before he broke out in another grin. "Hey there," he offered cheerfully. "How are you, little one?"

Etain leaned in further, then started to pat at the ant hill herself, forgoing a stick in favor of her hands. "How many d'you think are down there?"

Immediately, Trio's cheerful smile faded into a concerned look. "May I hold her?" she asked, reaching toward Liusaidh. "She's not a siren, I know that much. Annora doesn't kill with her voice, though it sometimes hurts... And definitely not a sylph," she murmured, more to herself than Fern.

"Don't touch!" Annora said, forgetting to keep her voice soft as she reached out and grabbed Etain's hands, flicking away a couple of ants and shuddering. "They're mean..." She tugged the sylph back, eyes immediately going back to the ants trying to rebuild their hill.

Makana pressed close to Shiro, eyes once more peering up at Kyrianna shyly, and her ears slowly coming forward. Daddy was safe. He'd make her feel better...

Sankouri, on the other hand, looked bemused, leaning in to lick the hair away from Eirwen's face with a long, wet tongue before nuzzling her neck gently. It was rare he was cuddled with this much! Most people didn't like the cool he exuded.

Fern hesitated before offering the girl towards teh other woman. "It's not like she bites or screams really loudly.. SHe's shut up a lot since we first got her."

Liusaidh continued to suckle at her hands, making a soft little noise and snuggling into the other woman.

"What's a siren? A sylph?"

Eires was acknowledged! That made the little fairy glow with pleasure, "Otay! You? I Iris!" she giggled and bounced on his shoulder slightly, her little arms hugging onto his ear.

Since she was too small too do much else.

Kyrianna laughed at the Autumn fairy, "Her name is Eires, not Iris, and she's very hyperactive."

Eires stuck out her tongue, little wings beating furiously.

"You know I love you." Kyrianna paused a little bit and turned to look at Fern, "Things die when she speaks?" she bit her lip a little bit, "My grandmother used to tell me ghost stories when I was little. They say that the Banshee's voice rang out when people were supposed to die. Is that a possibility, do you think? It's a little different but..."

Eirwen settled down immediately once her hair was removed from her face, clear blue eyes gazing adoringly at the creature. It was her hero! "Fuff!" she giggled and pet at him again, little nails scritching the best they could.

The little frost fae loved the cold. In fact, their entire house was the temperature of an igloo due to the fact if it got any warmer, she'd cry. Not that she couldn't HANDLE the heat. She just didn't like it. It made her uncomfortable. "Fuff!" she repeated.

Apparently, it was her word for "Fluffy."

Laughing softly, Shiro offered his fingertip up to Eires, as if to try and shake Eires' hand with it. "Eires, huh? I'm Shiro." The demon kept one hand still on Makana's shoulder, glad to feel her relaxing a little. "Etain, over there, with the wings? Etain's a sylph, an air elemental, essentially. Etain also apparently needs to learn about the dangers of ants," he added, groaning quietly.

Etain squeaked when her hands were tugged away, her eyes going wide. "Ants are mean?" she echoed, confused and stunned. "They're little... How're they mean? What do they do?"

"I... dunno," Annora said, dropping back into the quiet voice that was so unusual for her. "Kikuei says they're mean." She frowned at that - she'd never known the Ieldi to lie to her, but confronted with the question...

Settling Liusaidh into her arms, Trio frowned quietly, bouncing her a little. "Banshee? I ran into some stories of those when I was looking up sirens... er, my daughter over there, the blue one? She's a siren. We're being careful what she learns," she added wryly, nuzzling Liusaidh's hair. It was hard to believe someone so small and beautiful could be so dangerous...

Makana ducked more behind Shiro as Kyri talked, beginning to frown faintly. Daddy wasn't taking her somewhere to cuddle. That was odd. Daddy liked to cuddle with her, after all...

Sankouri remained silent, letting Eirwen tug and pull and play with his fur with the overly-long patience of one who'd been around TONS of children. She'd settle, once she got used to him...

"...a banshee?" Fern frowned, racking her brain for the few things she knew about legends or fay other then herself - she was from a few worlds to the left and five dimensions over, after all...

"Aren't they supposed to be harbringers of death?" Eyebrows arch quietly, shifting a bit, unconciously, from foot to foot. "So I have a screamer of death on my hands? Siren? Wait, didn't they..." Oh, remembering.

The redhead giggled madly and nuzzled back to Trio, "Gyaba?" Her voice was small, a whisper even - it was a beautiful little tone...until she heard the shift thud of something falling from a tree. It was a small sound - probably just a beetle - but it was large enough make her listen.

That was a familier sound...so her mouth clamped down, pushing her hand into her mouth once more.

Eires shook his hand with both of her tiny ones, "Nice!" she nodded sagely before settling down, her head buried against his ear. He was nice. MUCH nicer than Arta was.

The little frost baby yawned cutely and looked at the creature as she continued to pet it, gently, softly. She was getting sleepy from all the excitement - and sleeping was her favorite past time. Mostly because she got tired so easily.

"Fuff," she murmured tiredly, eyes drooping closed.

Hmmm... Shiro considered Eires, then Makana, then stepped back a couple feet, sat down, and settled Makana in his lap for some snuggletime. Clearly that's what the little girl was wanting, if she was still hiding behind him like that.

"Annora... You're being weird," Etain noted solemnly, looking up at her sister. "Why are you so quiet?"

Annora frowned at Etain, brows drawing together. She was NOT being weird. Just because she didn't want to hurt any more... Before she could finish the thought, she turned, hunching down near the ants and poking at the hill again.

Trio nodded to Fern. "Yeah, Banshees' wails are supposed to foretell death, isn't that right?" she asked Kyrianna, glancing over at her. "And sirens were the ones that lured sailors to their deaths, yes," she added, voice ever so slightly flat. "We're working to make sure Annora understands that's wrong." As she was whispered to, Trio turned back, looking down at Liusaidh sadly. "Looks like things are gonna be frustrating for you for a while, sweetie..."

That was MUCH better. Makana scrambled onto Shiro's lap, hooking a claw into his shirt as she nestled and began purring. Daddy was holding her - she liked it when he did that. He knew where to scritch to calm her nerves. Eyes drifting shut, she tugged on her paw, giving up after a moment as her claw held tightly to Shiro's shirt.

Sankouri came as close to smirking as a Zurui was capable of, setting his three cold tails over Eirwen's body in an odd parody of a blanket. This was a nice change, and the snuggling was beginning to make him dozy too.

"Huh." Fern blinked and turned her head to watch Annora with amusement on her face. "Well... it looks like you're doing a good job. Usually girls like that aren't so cute and well-adjusted.."

Liusaidh blinked back, beaming at the other with a soft giggle. Her smile was filled with toothless gums and one slobbery hand.. that was offered up to Trio as a gift.

Eirwen finally gave in to the pull of sleep, her little head nuzzling the Zurui as she shifted, got comfortable, and was still once again.

"Winny, please...Please stop...Argh, Winny!" Kyrianna's annoyed voice floated through the house. The frost fae had been much more fussy since Kyr had started trying to get her used to heat. The house was slowly being lowered from igloo status to room temperature, and while Eirwen was trying...She couldn't help not being comfortable.

Thus, she was taking it out on trying to get the egg. It was the egg's fault, after all. If the stupid egg hadn't arrived, then everything would be okay and the house would still be nice and cold and she wouldn't HURT.

"No!"

And she had learned a nifty word. Not exactly the word that Kyrianna would have liked to be Eirwen's first, but it was fun to say!

"Eirwen Light!" Kyrianna sighed, exhasperated, as she set Eirwen onto the bed. She was about to take the egg out when she felt movement against her flesh.

The baby was moving. If she could feel the baby moving, that meant the egg was going to hatch, right? That had to be right. s**t. s**t. What was she supposed to do? She had absolutely no idea. She'd never seen something being born before, let alone a snake. Should she help him? Should she get warm water and blankets?

Breathe, Kyr, Breathe. It'll be all right. Yeah. Right. SURE it would!

"Baby, I'll be right back," she murmured to the frost Changeling as she dashed into the bathroom for a towel. Towels were good, right? Little did she know that Youko was doing just about the same thing, at the same time. Apparently the twins had something synchronized.

"Nonono, do NOT hatch yet," she pleaded, setting herself down on the toilet and placing the towel in her lap. It was all she could do since the thing in her bra's movements were becoming more and more rapid. The egg was removed and placed in the material, blue eyes watching as the process continued.

The egg split and a small hand pushed through, covered in something that Kyr found absolutely disgusting. She'd never make it through childbirth if she couldn't handle that.

"Ew...Come on, little guy," she rooted, eyes refusing to leave the little squirming egg. The entire process didn't take too long, and soon she could see the small child, dark red hair and all, slither into the towel.

"Hey there..." she whispered, stroking to clean him off with the ends of the towel. A soft cry filled the bathroom as the nagaling took his first breaths, and his body curled close to his mother's, best it could. Surprisingly enough, it didn't seem fussy in the least bit.

Maybe she'd luck out and it'd be a good child.

"Welcome to the world, little one..." She couldn't for the life of her, remember a name.

Grabbing yet another towel, Kyrianna scooped the nagaling into it, wrapping him up gently and holding him to her as she moved out of the bathroom and to her bedroom. He was so tiny! Was he supposed to be that tiny?

He was red and green, as well. Reminded her of Christmas. Vaguely she wondered if she should name him Nicholas because of it. A small smile touched her lips at the thought and she laughed.

No, that wasn't what his name should be. Sitting on the bed, Kyrianna looked to the confused looking Changeling.

"What should we name your new brother, sweetheart?"

"Bah!" she answered, wiggling herself over to them to peek.

"I don't think I can name him Bah..." she trailed off and stroked the now-sleeping naga's cheek, "Belial," she answered, as if someone whispered the name in her ear.

"That's what his name is. Belial."

"Bah!" Eirwen agreed, reaching out to stroke the mop of dark red hair. He was much prettier than an egg.

"All right, Bah. We should call Youko, yes?"

Recognizing the name of the fox, Eirwen perked up immediately, "Floof Floof Floof!" she demanded, bouncing slightly on the large bed.

With a soft laugh, Kyrianna nodded her head, "Yes, he's floofy. All right, we'll call him. But if you say I actually laughed or smiled today..." she trailed off, not sure what to threaten an infant with.

Eirwen giggled and nuzzled close. She was still her mommy, after all, even if she did have to share.

Well, Kyrianna thought as she held her new son and her older daughter, Time to grow up.

A Fading Heat - Part Two

It was a day after her new son's arrival and Kyrianna was exhausted. Belial completely run her ragged with his crying and mischeif. Aye, he was a new born, but he had a set of lungs on him for a tiny creature. Not only that, he was mobile. Sort of. He couldn't quite slither yet, but he did indeed try.

Eirwen was feeling neglected. And hot. So very very hot, in fact, that she was in a slight amount of pain. Of course, seeing her mother so busy with Belial, she didn't cry or complain. She was the big girl now, right? She had to be good and help.

Even if she couldn't walk yet.

"Maaamaaaa!" she whimpered, peeping up from her position on the couch. She had been allowed to watch television, but now the heat was just getting uncomfortable.

Kyrianna stopped chasing after a wriggling Belial, scooped him up, and turned to look at her daughter, "What is it honey?"

"Nooo," she whined, using one of three words she knew. Her little fingers were pointing to her skin, which had begun to splotch red. Kyrianna blinked a bit before moving to the couch and slipping her into her arms. Belial, actually LIKING his big sister, wriggled to nuzzle into her tummy.

"The heat, Winny?"

The Changeling gave some semblance of a nod before shoving her fingers into her mouth and whimpering.

"All right, if it's that bad, I'll figure something out...Uh...Let's go out and I'll bring the gel baby sling for you. I need to get some more stuff for Belial anyway, yes?"

Eirwen smiled at her mother and gave yet another nod, snuggling close. Despite the heat from snuggles, Eirwen was in a rather cuddly mood. This was the first time in a day her mother had sat down and held her.

~*~

An hour later, Eirwen was strapped against Kyr's chest in the gel baby sling and Belial was in Eirwen's stroller, strapped in so the wiggling naga wouldn't be able to get out.

She hoped.

He was so tiny that it was hard to restrain him, and without two legs to put the strap between, it became difficult to figure out how to do it. The feline girl had improvised by taking a piece of cloth, pushing it under his tail, and lifting it to form a kind of hammock within the actual seat to couple with the chest strap. It was makeshift at best, but it seemed to work.

And he was warm. Of course the warmth seemed to make the little naga babble a lot more and vaguely Kyrianna wondered if Youko was having the same problem. They were, after all, twins.

But Belial wasn't the point of this outing. She needed to figure out something for Eirwen's problem with heat. It wasn't that she had no ideas, it was the fact that she couldn't remember the right address to go to to find what she was thinking of.

"Gimme a moment, Winny," Kyri said softly, stroking the silky-soft baby hair atop Eirwen's head. The frost fae was adequetly cool for the first time in a week or so, the cold jel pressing against the infant's skin and bringing it relief.

The feline pulled out her cell and dialed a number, letting it ring a few moments. It didn't take more than a ring before her friend's familiar voice fill her ear.

"Germaine? Kyri. I need...A favor..."

A Fading Heat - Part Three

Walking into her friend's shop, Kyrianna, armed with two small children, looked gratefully at the woman behind the counter. It was obvious the feline hadn't been getting too much sleep, and Belial was quite adament at the moment in his attempts of getting out of the stroller.

It would almost be easier to have him in the sling - but then Eirwen would throw a fit. Not to mention that Kyri had discovered that the small boy had two tiny fangs already and, if the bandage on her right pointer finger indicated anything, knew how to use them.

"Well, Kyr, it seems like you've gotten yourself into some trouble there," the pleasant looking woman greeted the feline, leaning against the counter to eye the odd woman and her children.

"Germaine." Kyrianna showed one of her rarer smiles and unhooked Eirwen from the sling, setting her on the cold glass counter. Perhaps that would pacify her even further.

Eirwen was positively thrilled as the cold touched her flesh and she wiggled about ever so slightly, "Co'!"

Eyeing her daughter, Kyri chuckled, "Uh huh...Anyway, Germaine, this is Eirwen. She's a Frost Fae changeling of a sort and she can barely stand the heat. However, I need to keep it warm since Belial," she indicated to the naga wiggling in the stroller, "Is a reptile, and doesn't quite appriciate cold very much. Nor do I, for that matter."

The woman behind the counter laughed, brushing her bright red hair from her face, "Well, I can do something about that, I think. There's this necklace that's been charmed to give the wielder minor control over ice. I can tweak it a little to keep her cool in the heat so long as she's wearing it, if you'd like."

"How much?" Kyrianna perked, a small glint coming into her eyes. Money was no object for her daughter's safety, but she'd rather not let Germaine know that. She was a friend, but she drove a hard bargain sometimes.

"For you? 600 gold. Not too much for a person of your salary."

An eyebrow raised at the price quote. It was certainly cheap, for any salary. A nod of her head was given, "We'll take it. IF it works."

"You doubt my abilities?"

"No. I'm playing it safe."

With a laugh, Germaine went into the back. She didn't return for a good twenty minutes, but when she did, she was holding a beautiful heart pendant on a delicate silver chain.

"Shii!" Eirwen babbled out, her eyes shining happily at the bauble that was being presented to her. The pretty lady put it around her neck, and she felt a sudden chill wash over her.

Ohhh that felt gooooood...The effects were immediate, and Eirwen seemed to relax considerably, the blotches on her arms fading away.

"Well. She seems satisfied. Do you take credit?"

Germaine grinned and went off to grab the proper equipment, Eirwen babbling happily at the new coolness she had found.
