I've become very interested in trying something like The Stuck In Prom Contest

It is a contest where a couple will make their prom outfits completely out of duct tape. The winners will be granted a three-thousand dollar scholarship.

I was thinking of doing something similar. Not for prom, but costumes and everyday wear, in a steampunk style, and I was wondering...
Is it still considered steampunk if it's made out of duct tape?

well why wouldn't it be? besides brass/copper and wood, theres not really any stereotypical "fabrics" within steampunk.

hell, i'd love to see a duct tape Waistcoat, would be awesome! XD

Ah.
I don't know. I guessI just thought it might not be considered as such. Just musing, I suppose.

But I suppose you're right. ^-^

Yes! A waistcoat would be amazing in say, black duct tape.
Personally, I'm looking forward to a corset and a bustle skirt.

what might look cool would be to make a Pinstripe pattern using thin strips of Silver duct tape! so you'd end up with a slightly shiny version of this:

although larger obviously...

I think that would look awesome and be really interesting.

I tend to shy away from modern materials. That is, from materials which were only invented so recently. Duct tape is right on the line, though. WWII is fair game for a lot of the steampunk community, and Duct tape was invented during WWII. So it's not out of the question.

To me, I don't think it's a material I would choose. But I don't think it's necessarily wrong. Steampunks would be yearning for a material like duct tape. The duct tape ethic is very similar to an ethic of a post-apocalyptic interpretation of steampunk. Heck, so many of us have outfits and props held together with duct tape even if we don't show it that it can't be that objectionable.

Yes, that would be incredibly awesome!

Amor - Oh? I had no idea it was invented during WWII. ^-^
