Okay. So. The Demon wall in the ancient temple is... level forty five. Has almost ten thousand hp. ARE THE CHARACTERS SUPPOSED TO BE LEVELED UP THAT FAR IN THE GAME? All my guys have just reached level thirty, and I can't beat the firetrucking wall, as it keeps doling out one hit KOs. Is there a trick you're supposed to follow, or did I screw up on leveling?

Level thirty should suffice... And there really is no way to mess up the leveling in this game (On one of my playthroughs I was level 75 at this point). The only two games that can be done on is VI and VIII... (Possibly II if you force stat upgrades on your characters by targeting them or by repeaditly inputing and cancelling commands)
It's been awhile since I fought this thing, and if I can remember correctly it has given me problems during my last playthrough that I never quite experinced before. The best help I can offer you is to tell you look up a FAQ at gamefaqs.com

O.o" VII. not VIII.

I BEAT IT. How? By chucking everything chuckable at it with throw materia. It actually came in handy, for once!

Haha I found that fight very easy... the guide made it seem hard but then I fought it and didn't even need to use the guide... My whole plan was focused around casting a ton of support magic, healing whenever possible, and using my strongest attacks (including limit break) when I wasn't doing either of those... Whose in your party?

I switch around alot, and never really use Barrett or Cait Sith... At the time I had Aerith, Cloud, and Vincent. Right now I have Cid, Vincent, and Yuffie, as Cloud just popped out of the lifestream
