America has had some health insurances for families unable to afford insurance, like Amerihealth Mercy. These programs are for people who live below the poverty level. My family is one of many on one of these programs, since my mother is single and physically disabled. On these programs, nothing is covered. You must go to a shady doctor, who has a year long waiting list, to go and get a normal check-up. My mother has Degenerative Disk Disease, and the government refuses to cover any medical treatments. When she goes to the ER for a major problem, they treat her like she's just a leech to the system. They have only covered one blood test, and now they say that she has another disease, and a biopsy was required. Since they would not tell her what disease they wanted to biopsy for, she would have refused. Before she could refuse a biopsy, the "insurance" denied coverage for a biopsy. If people on a government insurance plan are not getting the testing done that they might need, how can the government cover the country when it cannot cover the people dependent on them already? Would an increase in taxes fix all of these problems that are already there?
(As a side note, this issue is how I started to look for truth. The way she is still treated is like she's expendable. They almost seem like they want her to die for the sake of population control.)

At least someone's trying to make an effort. From the way you're describing it, it can't get much worse.

Sorry to hear about your mum. I'm not sure how this mandatory free health care service is going to pan out, but we'll all be paying into it, so hopefully we'll get some actual service back. I fear it's not going to get any better though... Being ill in America is a very scary thing. No money no cure.

I checked their own website. Amerihealth Mercy, from what I can tell, is a Private Company that distributes Medicare + Medicaid. Ie, The government gives them cash, they supposedly give it to poor sick people. Something tells me an unhealthy chunk goes to their CEO, though...
I could be mistaken, but that's what I think. The government just needs to stop giving money to corporations.

One of the big problems is the sheer number of people who play the system. Many of the kids I went to high school with were planning on being career welfare recipients. These people then go on to raise their children with the same ideals or lack thereof, and tell anyone who even suggests that they should try to do better for themselves that the government owes them everything and more. They then go to public schools where they interact with middle class children, who see their constant stream of new shoes and brand name clothes, and the teachings of both sets of children's parents cause a clash between socioeconomic classes. This leads to self segregation, which leads to bitterness on both parts, which leads to an unwillingness to meet in the middle.

If it were that bad for everyone I'd be waiting to die from cancer right now. As it is they gave me the surgery I needed and didn't make me pay the 38,000 dollars it took to do it. Now I at least have a chance. I will admit to being scared though because they were making noises about cutting health care for the poor in Minnesota, they have since done so.
I think that's a short sighted move on their part, when you make routine care unavailable something that could have been prevented sends someone to the emergency room when it's become acute. Then the taxpayer ends up footing a larger bill.
