I was wondering if anyone out there does photo editing and if they do what program do you happen to use? Another question: Is photo editing part of photography or part of art, or both? What subforum would you post that in? [I use picnik when editng. I used to use it through face book but it was so slow I now just go to the main site.]

I edit photos.
I Use Adobe Photoshop 7.0
Depends what you edit. If you edit a photo, it's photography.
If you edit a drawing or something similar, (imo) I don't consider it photography.
[But photography is considered art]

. . . . Meillee says. if its only color adjustment then its considered mostly photography, but if its heavily edited (can't really tell the original picture, or it a bunch of pictures together), then it would be classified in media arts or graphic arts, which is an art.
I don't have photoshop on my computer, but in my graphics class at school I use Photoshop CS4

This subject has been discussed so many times (not in terms of you, but more in the photography world). Computer editing is equivalent to the darkroom. So I think it's okay to use editing programs to your advantage to make a better photograph. I also think it's important to have a good photograph to begin with. My problem is too many people assuming a good photograph can be made from a bad one, without the proper knowledge behind photography. And I admittedly hate the overedited look, but to each their own.

I think it can be difficult to define "too edited", but I think it's easy to tell when there is light editing or heavy editing.
And I don't think it's a matter of art vs. photography but rather graphic arts vs. photography.
I'm having a difficult time deciding, but I want to say that's graphic art. The text is the focus of the piece, not the photograph. Or to me that is.

Oh, and I use Photoshop. It's just what I'm used to and what I've always worked with.
[tl;dr]

I agree with Floss, on the picture. It's more of a graphic art imo, for the same reason. You're sending a message with the text, backing it with the picture.

I use PSE8, a billion actions, and occasionally Portrait Professional 10 & Corel Painter Essentials. I consider all photography as an art, so yes, photo enhancing is a form of art. Creating an image with a feeling or mood or story is a creative outlet. Anything that tells a story, really, is art.
And as to the image above, yeah, i'd say it'd be considered "graphic art".

Graphic art? That's great! Thanks for the replies, they were very useful. (At least now I know what to call it. I never thought I'd find out. sweatdrop )
