Alright, I follow no religion or whatsoever, yet my curiosity is big. One question has kept me busy for quite a while now and so far no Muslim has been able to give me 'the' answer. Making me wonder whether 'the' answer actually exists.
Anyhow, as for what I'm wondering about. I'm a type 1 diabetic, so I'm completely stuck with insulin for the rest of my life. Nowadays creating insulin is completely done in a chemical way. However, back in the day, (we're talking about, I guess, 40 years. But I'm not sure and it doesn't really matter that much) the insulin diabetics used, came out of porks. Which I know is haram. However, since you'll die without it, would've been allowed then?

There are people "evangelizing" Islam in my city one booklet they provided is that harem is apparently acceptable for survival (life or death) reasons (according to the pamphlet provided). It also seems to be a case by case basis.

It would have been allowed because there was no alternative source (though there is now so it's a moot point). Allah would have rewarded them greatly if they had chosen to die by not taking the insulin if they believed that it would be better for them to not take it, but he does not punish those who choose to survive when they have to do something forbidden. If we repent, we are always forgiven (disbelievers aside). Same case with someone who's starving & all there is, is pork. They are allowed to eat it to survive though they'd be rewarded greatly if they didn't. Like I said, they'd not be wronged by Allah if they chose the former.
