I played trumpet for seven years back in middle and high school, and I graduated about four years ago. Took a couple years of a break, and then I started college. So here I am, junior status, and I'm thinking about auditioning for my school's wind ensemble in the fall. I was pretty good, y'know, back in the day, but I kind of haven't even touched the trumpet since then. I imagine it's sort of like riding a bike - you never forget - but is there any advice you guys could give me to help me get back into this a little easier in a few months' time?

it's quite easy to forget, actually neutral i'd suggest you get with a private teacher and work your butt off.

It depends. I didn't do alto saxophone for a few years due to going to a school with no musical program, but entered my college's concert band and was able to keep up fairly well (except for forgetting some scales/key signatures). If you have any friends in your college band or anything that plays trumpet, I'd recommend you talk to them.

First off, seeing your getting back into trumpet made me happy lol.
Back on topic......
Try getting a buzz or two, and if that doesn't work, either ask another trumpet player at your university to teach you the basics again, or a teacher to teach you the basics. Once the basics are back you should be able to figure out the rest, just DONT SCREW UP YOUR CHOPS in the process.
If you work hard, aka lots of arban and scales, you should do fine. Good luck!

It's more like math, if you don't do it for a while you forget how.
