The sun filtered gold through the trees, speckling the leaves with emerald light and dappling Bero’s dark red fur, making the flame-like markings that decorated his pelt seem to dance and come alive with each ray’s touch. It seemed unnatural, almost dangerous, with trees, foliage, and other flammable things surrounding him, but the flame was only a part of his pelt, and nothing more.

He was deep in a forest, his body held low and his stride silent. His orange eyes glinted in the sun, flickering observantly, taking care to remain unnoticed. His dark-tipped ears pressed forward cautiously, and he treaded carefully on the earthen floor, the tip of his tail twitching with each step. He was sheltered under the reaching boughs of the trees above, and the leaves helped to camouflage him as he neared his destination: a pool that many came to as a source of water.

Near the water’s edge, a young hog could be seen, grunting and snuffling before reaching down warily to drink. Bero, using the opportunity, slowly closed in, his claws extended. He would try to get as close as he could, he thought as he approached. And then – he would strike.

The unfortunate hog had not only claimed the attention of the flashy red-pelted tiger, but another's eyes were trained steadily too it. Tide at the least had no intention of eating it, she wasn't hungry she was merely annoyed that the creature had interrupted her at this pool of water she was so fond of. At the moment she was crouched in the shallows long reeds hiding her otherwise obvious appearance.

She shifted lightly the faintest ripple extending from her paws. She hadn't yet decided whether or not to wait for it to leave, or simply scare it off by showing herself. She remained crouched for now scanning the surroundings with mild interest. For a moment she was pacified by the scenery before irritation of her solitude being interrupted got to her.

She yawned, although not a sound escaped her lips as she closed them, turning her attention back to the unwanted intruder, she was getting tired of sitting so desperately still so she stood to her full height, lifting her belly from the shallows and glaring over at the prey-beast. It would see her and scamper off in a moment surely, leaving her to her peaceful solitude, or at least that was what she expected.

Just as Tide had expected, the hog immediately looked up, ears raised and nostrils flared in a warning snort.

Bero, on the other hand, had been caught by surprise. He knew the pool to be a place where many gathered, for such pools were few and far in between in the forest. However, he had thought he and the hog to be alone, for he had seen noticed no other presence as he approached. But now he caught sight of a tiger, with pelt as similar to the water that surrounded her which, in turn, only reminded him of the swirls of red, orange, and yellow that spilled across his back and tail and the dark cracks along his paws that bore a resemblance to fire as much as hers did to water.

This had run across his mind in a mere moment, and no more. His attention soon returned to the hog, and he suddenly leapt from his own hiding spot and onto the back of the retreating animal. He was silent, his movements like shadow, and the only the panicked squeal of the hog below notified those close by of his being. Soon, his fangs found its way onto the neck of the hog, and was crushing the creature’s spine, destroying its nerves, and killing it instantly.

Tide flicked her ears as the intruder made its exit about to look back down at the water when a flash of some bright red color caught her attention. She looked up eyes searching for the source of the movement, but not finding it, only able to see the swaying brush that the movement had disappeared into, a few seconds later the squeal of the hog that she had been about to let be was heard and she found herself filling in the blanks.

There wasn't many things that killed hogs and moved that quickly. She stared at the brush that had stopped moving awhile ago as if it would suddenly turn transparent like the water she stood in. However it was quite fixed in its opaque ways and she found herself trying to remember the flash of movement she had seen as an actual shape. Yes, it was some sort of predator and around her size but she hadn't seen enough of it, nor clearly enough.

Huffing quietly she wandered forwards, wading through the water towards the brush her eyes still hadn't left, interest peaked. she padded softly out of the water, her fur gaining an odd look where the wet met the dry and droplets of water falling steadily off her as gravity pulled them back to earth, she ignored this and stealthily approached the bush, drawing air slowly into her nose looking for more information. It smelt like a tiger, which gave her mixed emotions, she hadn't had company for a log time...but she didn't want it and this particular pool was 'hers' she didn't want to give it up to some stranger. She crouched lower sneaking slowly around the bush that blocked her view eyes flicking towards the scene awaiting her, a male, even better. Her thoughts turned somewhat bitter, wondering how he would react to her presence.

Bero held his grip for a while longer, occasionally giving his head a small shake to ensure his prey was, indeed, dead. Once he was satisfied, he released the hog and inspected it. He didn’t enjoy eating diseased animals and after a particularly bad experience, he made sure to check each prey for sickness before devouring it.

He put a paw at the dead animal’s side but paused, just before he was about to open it. His claws spread possessively around the hide and he pressed his ears forward, baring his fangs to ward off the stranger whom he assumed had come to steal his prey. But after a moment, he realized it was another tiger such as himself, and female, too. Instinct prevented him from being cruel to females of his kind, and he immediately closed his lips. She didn’t seem starved, which relieved him. It meant he wouldn’t have to give up his prey, but he wasn’t against sharing if she wished it.

Hello,” he called. Then, with a vague motion towards the hog: “Are you hungry?
