What do you do when a big, hairy, muscular – albeit ribbon-wearing – man launches himself at you? It’s not a question most people find themselves faced with, but when you are, what do you do? What the bloody hell do you do? Well, Miaoyin wasn’t so sure. However, being the (wimpy) man he was, he want with his gut. His gut had a very clear opinion on the matter, and it went something like this: oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t. The boy breathed in and out, all quick short bursts as he watched those huge, dark fists inch closer and closer to his face. If you closed your eyes… did it hurt less? And what was he supposed to do anyways? Cover his face? Or maybe his – cough – manly bits? His hair? His bird? His bird!

Miao’s eyes leapt skywards, fast enough to catch the blur of feathers that were smearing across the sky. While Miao might have been confused, dazed and without a plan, Tao Hua was not. Faster than he ever could’ve been, Miao’s bird had fled the scene, clearly Tao Hua was better versed in this whole art of combat thing. It was clearly, Miao realized, a matter of fight or flight. Miao truly was a bird lover, and as a result his choice was obvious – he needed to get out of here. Stat.

He pivoted, ducking his head down as he did, using his pale fingers to cover the top of his head as he attempted to run. However, Miao wasn’t stupid – as his feet began to fly out from behind his body, which was lacking balance – he knew he had taken up a good amount of time gawking. Eyes wrinkled into a painful cringe, any moment now, he was sure, Bataar’s fist would connect with his… something.

He was so dead.

His ribbons were the ribbons of a man. By the end of this battle, Bataar would be sure that this little actress knew that! He had no idea what the other Lunarian was thinking in the short few seconds that it took him to reach Miao, nor did he care. His only minor concern was that the smaller boy might chance running away, and it certainly looked as if he were preparing to do so. The Mongol's eyes narrowed and, instead of punching the Legionnaire's lights out, he decided to all-out tackle him instead.

"You are not getting away from this!" the maroon Lunarian shouted as he gracelessly toppled over on top of Miao.

As unfair as these odds were, that was the last thing on Bat's mind. He straddled the boy, ignoring the fact that his muscle mass was probably rather painful to bear to someone with less of a build. Bataar was really just considering what to do next; it wasn't often that he felt he had such an advantage in a fight, and so he wanted to take his time and enjoy it. After all, there were so many moves he'd practiced just on his own; he had an absolute library of various punches and kicks from which to draw from.

The Mongol gnawed his bottom lip casually, feeling rather intellectual; it wasn't every day that he stopped to think! He paused, casually playing with one of the ribbons entwined with a braid. That was definitely a manly thing to wear! There was no doubt in his mind. His mother Odval wouldn't have encouraged it if it weren't masculine! He'd been born and bred to trump effeminate guys like this. That particular thought set him back on course. There was one serious question he had to ask.

"So, have you put any thought into how you want to die, girlie?"

Arms wrapped around him, squeezing him and pulling him close. Miao equated Bat’s lone arm to one of those dangerous snakes that lurked around the jungle. The kind that make his aunties shriek and flail and scream. Now it was Miao’s turn to shriek, flail and scream. It was not his most dignified moment, that Miao would give you, but he really wasn’t sure what else to do. So he lashed out (as best he could), he body wriggled, his legs kicked wildly, all as Miao tried to hit some part of Bataar. It was probably all in vain, but Miao couldn’t help but think he had to try. He couldn’t just let the brute rip him into shreds. Miao was beginning to feel like a caged animal – not his elegant birds but something wild and vicious, like a tiger – all teeth and claws and building fury. He was panicked and fearful, trying, struggling to find any sort of exit.

Eventually, quickly, Miao’s flailing subsided, only to be replaced with calm. The snake, he realized, only tightened as its prey struggled. He had to be smarter – use his brain, and not act so impulsively. Still, there was an undeniable mix of fear and rage snaking its way through its veins. It seeped through the boy, in an attempt to take control of his mind and body – and Miao had almost fed this subconscious beast. No. He could do this with his mind alone. Gasping for breath Miao breathed in and out. Calm. Alert. Focused. Mind over muscle. Brain over brawn. He could do this.

… Maybe.

“I didn’t plan to die in a fight with a g– “

Miao bit his tongue. If he implied that this brute was a girl, ever once more… Well, Bataar didn’t seem to be the most stable of fellows. Maybe he could talk his way out of this! Ha! That was a good joke. Bataar seemed intent on pummeling Miao now that he couldn’t grope him. Miao blew out a short breath. He wasn’t do say anything to Bataar, or, if he was, it would have to catch him off-guard. This had to work. Miao had to live.

So, considering all option – which were very limited – Miao decided on a fine course of action.

He moved to bite down on any area of Bataar’s flesh his teeth could grasp.

Bataar grimaced as Miao got in a kick or two, but was relieved to find that none of the other boy's moves were very powerful or damaging. There seemed to be no strategy to his struggles; he was panicking, and that was how Bat liked it. The Mongol preferred an easy battle over an annoying one where he himself could actually get hurt. There was no doubt in his mind that Miao might inflict a few small cuts and bruises, but he doubted that the other Lunarian would come up with anything particularly harmful or at all fatal. Certainly, there were ways for Miao to possibly win, but at the moment they seemed far and in between as he pinned the other Lunarian down.

The maroon Lunarian appeared to be faintly bothered when Miao stopped struggling, but he tried not to let it bother him. Certainly, it wasn't normal, but then again, he usually didn't beat up other students with so much less fighting skill. Maybe Miao had decided to face the inevitable: that he was, indeed, going to lose. Bataar was confident of his skill in that case, too; no matter what, he fully believed he could win over this scrawny boy. He certainly had the muscles and the wrestling capabilities he needed to succeed in this area. If there was one thing he was decent at, it was fighting.

He stared at Miao in confusion as he spoke and then cut himself off, frowning. "What were you just going to say?" he demanded softly, his green eyes narrowing to snake-like slits as he tightened his hold on the other Lunarian. Even a brute as dense as Bat wouldn't have any trouble telling that he had been on the verge of being utterly insulted-- and by a sissy like this, too! He could hardly tolerate the idea! What right did this make-up wearing guy have to say anything to him, let alone insult him so terribly?

And then he bit him.

"OUCH, GODAMMIT!" Bataar shrieked, automatically aiming a punch at his victim.

This was a classic case, Miao decided, of probability versus possibility. Certainly, it was possible for him to win. It was also very possible for chickens to come hurling down from the heavens as well. Were they probable events? Unfortunately for Miao, the answer was a very loud, clear no. It should be noted that Miao would’ve settled for the chickens; he figured those would distract Bataar enough to wiggle and pry himself free, or maybe they’d hurt him. That would be nice. However, Miao wasn’t about to let himself get distracted by imaginary hens, there was a bigger issue at hand - a bigger, hairier issue than pondering infinite possibilities. This issue happened to be known other than Bataar’s fist.

Miao was sure – as he saw its blurred image spiral towards him – that, if there was a small cult of fist-worshippers in the mountains, Bataar’s fist would be the almighty god. It wasn’t a remarkably pretty fist, Miao would have to admit, but it was a very manly one. The crisscrossing of veins and hair, all tense and rippling with power, it was enough to make Miao scream. So he did. It wasn’t a very loud scream, nor was it a long one. It was more of a yelp if anything. A quick burst of high-pitched and chaotic sound as Miao felt the fist come crashing into his face. Not the youth’s proudest moment, that was for sure.

Bataar’s perhaps godly fist had connected squarely into Miao’s nose. It wasn’t enough to break the thing, thank god, but boy did it hurt. The nose, Miao had learnt, was one of the best places to hit. It stung like a foul word, and caused bleeding and tears. Not that Miao cried, no. Well, he wanted to. He really, really wanted to cry – but in front of Bataar? No way. Miao wouldn’t (or he’d try his very hardest to not) let Bataar have that smug satisfaction. Instead, his fingers flew to cup around his nose, as his tear ducts welled and fragmented his vision. His mind spinning, his hands collecting a thin pool of blood, Miao forced himself to come to terms with one very hard fact –

He was utterly and completely screwed.
