"No! I liked your trick!" she grinned at Shepard. "See!" she said when Vivi agreed with her. "It's cool."

Her eyes flicked to Vivi as she swung higher. Lucia copied the arc of the swing pushing hard with her wings to create momentum. Her swing was almost even with Vivi's when the woman pushed off and flew down to the ground, landing on her feet. She flew without wings. "That was awesome!" How, without wings, was she able to fly? Or maybe it was just graceful falling. Again, Lucia preferred not to know. The mystery was the intrigue.

"I can show you sometime," she said, a little in awe of the pair. She certainly wasn't in any mood to go there right now. Assuming she ever got in the mood, she might show them.

"So how do you know about raevans? And what other tricks can you do?" The questions were not connected at all, but were equally important to her. The kitten loved the mysterious, the trick without knowing the solution.

In response to Lucia's compliment, Vivi curtsied accordingly, flashing a sweet smile up at the girl. "Aa, we can do a great deal of tricks, you know? Such was our job for many years. I am afraid that to see them all, you might be out here all night! Perhaps all tomorrow, as well!"

She had made her way back to her lonely swing as she spoke, and was now slowly gaining momentum on it once more, standing again instead of sitting. "Ah, yes -- forgive me. To answer your question, cheri," she said conversationally as she slowly pressed forward with her legs, the sway of her arc becoming dangerously high. "We know about Raevans because we have been selected to receive one, ourselves."

And there she paused in her speech, as the swing seemed to threaten to take her over the crossbar. She beat it to its bluff, and leapt steadily from her post, grabbing onto the metal crossbar and swinging around it fluidly. Again, she let go, and again, she went through the air, her knees tucked close to her chest as she somersaulted cleanly past. And again, as she landed on her feet, she turned around to Lucia and gave a little bow. Shepard obliged her with a quick round of lazy applause.

"It's true, got an essence and a bottle and everything." Shepard corroborated from where he was crouched, gathering up the remnants of his deck. He shot a grin at Vivi, and the two exchanged glances. The Frei seemed happier now -- or at least, pleasantly distracted by their entertainment -- and that fact made both Vivi's and Shepard's hearts a little lighter. Shepard's eyes darted up to Lucia's briefly; she was much prettier, he decided with finality, with the look of interest and amusement in her eyes than that guarded sadness they had found her with. A smile suited her winsome features infinitely more.

He shuffled the cards between his hands for a moment as he straightened. "I definitely got enough debris on these things, didn't I?" he commented, selecting a card from the pack and eyeing it with obvious displeasure. He shook the card as if trying to free it from dirt, and then brought it to his lips and blew on it -- and as his breath hit it, the card seemed to disappear!

"Blast," he said with feigned disappointment, selecting another card from the deck. "It's so easy to lose these damn things. Ah, well..." With a shrug, he tore the card in his hand cleanly into two. And then, fixing them with a pointed stare, he shook them roughly, just once. As his hand stopped, the torn card in his hand was no longer: it had become two full cards. "... always easy to make extras."

Vivi laughed from where she was knelt down by Shepard's backpack, rummaging through one pocket.

"Lots of tricks," Shepard reiterated, still idly shuffling, grinning an apologetic sort of grin at Lucia. "You really could be here all night."

"Ah, but we could not bear to show her everything now," the Frenchwoman said mischievously. "After all, we must leave something for the time mademoiselle feels ready again to share with us her amazing power."

Lucia smiled to herself. She was used to being out all night, and only needed to be back to Alex’s by the time the woman got up for work. She pushed her dark hair out of her face as she watched the pair show off. Vivi was swinging very high while her male friend seemed to be watching almost lazily.

”That’s great! I’m sure that she will be very entertained with you.” Her eyes were mischievous and there was almost her old air about her as she carefully chose her words. She grinned and her eyes went wide as Vivi grasped the top rung of the swings and then fell gracefully again. She applauded enthusiastically as she felt appropriate. The slapping of one hand against the other echoed throughout the area in the silent park. Lucia slapped her hands together hard and quickly, overdoing the exuberance. Again, her eyes were mischievous.

Lucia’s attention was drawn back to Shepard as he spoke again. She watched his every movement as he spoke to her, reaching for his cards. He picked them up, shuffled the cards and blew one out of existence! Holy s**t.

Her eyes were wide, watching his every move. Lucia’s gasp was audible as she watched him tear a card in half. She was in shock – didn’t he need those?!

And then the halves became whole. And he had his two cards again.

Another round of exuberant applause. The frei grinned and listened fairly quietly to the pair’s banter. ”You said it was a trick…so let me show you one.” Her voice was quiet. The set up was everything. Her eyes were a bright violet in the night air. A tight smile rested on her face as she took a deep breath. She used to be afraid of what she planned to show. But now heights were nothing. Her eyes narrowed and looked up as she feigned intense focus. With a few test beats of her wings Lucia, looking at the sky, took another deep breath and turned her head to face Shepard. With a bright smile and a wink, she beat her wings hard and flew straight up, up, up beyond where the pair could see. But of course she couldn’t end the trick there.

The frei flew down about 100 yards away from the pair, skimming low to the ground Lucia zipped by them with a waggle of her fingers, looped around, and stopped, landing on top of the jungle gym where Shepard and Vivi had been resting when she had first noticed them.

The Raevan had looked happier, or at least, more energetic. Her applause was bouyant, her reactions were elated, and her eyes -- those lovely, otherworldly violet eyes -- were bright and alive. That hauntingly beautiful creature, full of that near-choking mist of sadness... she had gone away, fell to the background of this new, vibrant Raevan. That alone had been enough of a thrill for the two performers, but what she did next completely blew them away.

Lucia had said that there was nothing amazing about a girl with wings flying, but she had most certainly proved herself wrong. Her dashing, swooping flight exhilarated her audience, and both Vivi and Shepard burst into an appreciative applause as she landed so gracefully and easily atop the jungle gym. There were no words, only broad smiles of true amazement and the bounding rhythm of their applause.

"My goodness," said Vivi lightheartedly after a moment, her fingers knitting together joyously under her chin. "Aaa~ I feel so envious! What a spectacular gift~!"

The usually-laconic Shepard could only nod to that, and roll his broad shoulders up into an astonished shrug. He grinned mutely at Lucia, his dark eyes full of an earnest admiration. They were pretty damn impressive, these Raevans -- at least, they were if they were like this one.

Lucia smiled vibrantly after she landed. The applause. The smiles. The praises. She understood why they liked performing. She looked intently at each of her spectators. It was fun. And what she did was something every raevan could do, so it really wasn’t that spectacular.

”You should see it all the time soon, if you said you’re going to take care of a raevan of your own soon. I mean – we all have wings.” The frei beat her wings lazily a few times and floated back over to the swing. The frei leaned back, her hands lightly gripping the chains as she looked at the moon. It was getting a little late, for these two at least.

She wasn’t planning on going home anytime soon, but she did have things she regularly did when out at night by herself: visiting a graveyard or at least the shore, flying by Yuu’s house (she usually did it a few times a week), sometimes she’d just sit and relax on her bedroom’s balcony.

”I-umm—I should probably get going.” She sat back up and looked at the two humans. They were okay. For humans that was.

"We certainly look forward to seeing such flight often," said Vivi dreamily, her eyes far away as she attempted to envision just what sort of creature her little vial of Dawn would create. But as the kitten began to hedge her farewells, the Frenchwoman returned to reality with a brief, inward sigh. Soul-catching. What a problem.

"It has been quite enchanting to meet mademoiselle," said the acrobat with a winsome smile. Beside her, Shepard hefted his backpack easily to his shoulders, his contemplative eyes never leaving Lucia. So, his thoughts caught up with him, this was a Raevan. This... unfathomable, beautiful, mischievous feline girl. Vivi was intending to help create someone like... this.

"A pleasure," he agreed with a brief nod.

As the pair left the park together a few scant moments later -- Vivi still smiling broadly and commenting happily about what luck and such a beauty -- Shepard's thoughts drifted to that first forlorn expression Lucia had held. He wondered about the kitten Frei, and what had made her feel such sadness. Silly tricks from a random pair at midnight certainly wouldn't push thoughts that created expressions like that away. And, in any case, it wasn't his business.

But he hoped all the same that their little amusements might have given the kitten a few moments of something extra to smile about.
