For a little street urchin it was extremely easy to sift through the crowd, slip underneath legs and dodge in between bodies, but for Chauhn, after his weary journey back home to Imisus, it was less than graceful. Every bump or accidental nudge was accompanied with a half-hearted apology from the boy as he determinedly pushes his way through. He had to find the Council of Science...No matter what.
...Even if he had no idea where he was going.
Wandering the streets of coastal Imisus before had always granted him what he sought for, whether it be drink, food, or otherwise, so, based on the success of his previous quests, Chauhn pressed onward. The roads always led him to what he needed, he just had to keep following it.
Around him, people whispered, the bustle of the crowd dwindling down a few notches in volume to an unsettling level. Carefully stepping on his blistered feet as he tip toed around the pausing bodies, Chauhn heard voices pique and hiss underneath withheld breaths. He knew very well that such decreases in volume never happened unless provoked. There was something nearby that caught the crowds attention, demanded for whispers and hush voices. Furrowing his brows and listening like any good urchin would, Chauhn perked his ears, and looked up at the faces around him from underneath the floppy bill of his hat.
"...He's over there...He's come up from...........That's the.............ative....Council..."
Catching the word "council" from the dull murmurs of the town folk, Chauhn nearly ran headlong into a body before him. Able to stop himself in time, accenting his awkward jerk of a stop with an apology, Chauhn straightened himself up onto the tip of his frost-bitten toes.
"...Simon....from the..............Sciences....."
That's it. That's all he needed. Chauhn's heart leapt in his chest and he clasped his hand close to his collar, where, underneath his meager clothes, his pouch of ashes hung against his skin. He wanted to tell Clurie now, tell him, we're almost safe, but he had to be quiet. First things first, Chauhn said, pushing towards the quieter part of the crowd, he had to find this man, who would hopefully take him to the Council of Sciences, take him to safety.
Breaking free of the border of bodies, Chauhn stumbled on his raw rag wrapped feet to a stop, peering with his weary eyes for the man in question. He stood out like a sore thumb, in dirty rags and covered with traveler's wear, a small boy of about 14, shorter than his age should be. His hand was tucked tightly to his breast as he searched out this man of Science.
...There.
An older man, in peculiar, yet obvious robes that separated him from the rest of the village gentry, was passing silently through, ignoring the suspicious people around him. Chauhn couldn't see his face, just the back of his head as he moved away, the clean cut of his short hair, but already, he felt like he were safe. Lurching forward into a sloppy jog, Chauhn chased after the man, pushing past the few who meandered into his path.
"S-sir!" Chauhn croaked as he came near, "Sir, please, sir! Wait!"
Little badly wrapped hands curled into the fabric of the man's robes and Chauhn gave a weak yank, unknowingly putting on his best beggar's face. "Please, sir, listen to me!"
