Michael Collins
Countess Marcehvich (I don't think that's spelt right) --> she was involved in the 1916 rising, in the women's rights movement etc.
And Tommy Tiernan mrgreen

Among others.

I agree Bono is a pretty lame guy, but take your sectarianism elsewhere. It reflects badly upon you.

Countess Markievicz was a brave woman, and not for the 1916 Rising. She was a great women's lib' supporter, and did much that is to be respected.

Saint Patrick was Welsh, supposedly. Then again, he also 'drove the snakes out of Ireland', which is complete s**t. If you're annoyed about him possibly coming from England, that's pretty lame, too, but Saint George was from Turkey, if that soothes you.

W.B. Yeats was a wonderful poet, with excellent style and a form that never ceased to be interesting. However, his politicised work was poor and merely a Dante-esque front for his nationalism. Art should exceed politics.

Oscar Wilde was a brilliant writer, too, and an excellent wit.

Less impressive was Bram Stoker. As anyone who has ever read 'Dracula' knows, it cannot compare to its mainstream contemporaries.

Glad to see someone mentioned her before i did, i almost though i was the only one who remembered her.

As for heros, Wolfe Tone he showed us both catholics and protestants can fight, die and live togeather and to fight for each other as whole.

Which has sadly been forgotten these days crying
