I think what Lillyet is asking is, if the permits are issued to take a certain number of whales for research, why are they issuing permits to those who are clearly not doing research----fishermen? And if we think this is right?
Is that right, Lillyet?

Supposedly, they have a right to say they are killing whales for research as long as they use some of it for research. See, at first Japan's reasoning for killing whales was because it was a part of their culture, but half of Japan doesn't even know that Japan is slaughtering whales, so they were caught and they moved on to the reasoning that they are using these whales for research. The IWC (Internationaly Whaling Commission) supposedly doesn't realize this or are letting it pass. What should happen is that people have to inform them of what is happening and catch it on film like they did in the slaughtering of Dolphins in Taili, Japan. But not only should the IWC be informed by the facts but the people of Japan have to be informed as well. Other nations can't do anything about it unless the people of Japan want it stopped. On a personal level, I think that Japan should not be slaughtering whales for any reason because whales are rapidly becoming extinct because of that and because of all the trash that is being put in the ocean.
