It was on Gohan's birthday when Goku and Chi Chi did their buisness.He was born in the next year after the defeat of Cell.Somehow Goku knew he may not return for the fight.He had high hopes but the problem was Gohan was getting cocky and Cell resorted in suicide and Goku yeah took one for the team.In a wikipedia website it says he knew Gohan was eventually going to surpass him in power and somehow do the same thing he did with Frieza so right before they left for the Cell games they did it and she had Goten the next year.
I just decided to waste some time and look at this forum, after I read this I thought of something even more awkward. If they did do the
