This could potentially go in RPs, as self-RP. But more aptly it's fanfiction, because not all of the characters and couples exist here at the shop.
Sorry if this fails. Dl

Mishap & Keller (c) Me
The Lucky Noodle (c) Meha, Frey, Kaju, Idk

Mishap glanced down at the most recent creature to crawl out of River’s head. Instead of being a gray-eyed goddess however, this was an orange-eyed little oddball. Fidgeting, he shifted his laptop so that it angled away from the boy when he found that it was staring at him. Honestly he wasn’t entirely sure how old this kid was, and whatever Mishap was reading online therefore probably wasn’t appropriate. Swallowing slightly at the uninterrupted orange gaze he was being subjected to, Mishap attempted to communicate with it. “Uhh… so how tall are you?”

“Five feet short.” The boy answered, finally blinking.

Mishap, slightly peeved at the grammatical error of that response, replied just as snarkily, “Shorter than what?”

Still, there was no pause before he was answered, as if he’d been expecting that. “Anything that’s ten feet, I suppose.”

“Hmm.” Mishap replied noncommittally. Honestly, where did River find the time to pick up these weirdos? Not that he was one to talk, exactly. “I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten your name.”

“It’s alright.”

“Oh, no, it’s rude of me; really.”

“I forgive you.”

“…So, uh, what is it?”

“What is what?”

“Your… name. You have got a name haven’t you?”

“I’ve got a name.”

“Oh, well yeah, I figured that.”

“Most people do.”

“Right, yeah. ...I’m sorry, what’s your name again?

“Keller.”

“Oh. Alright then. Hello again Keller, my name’s Mi-”

“Mishap.”

“Right.”

After that conversation drifted lazily into awkward silence. Keller continued to stare at him for another moment before finally turning his blonde head away. Mishap glanced away as well, wondering who he would have to introduce the boy to. They were hanging out at The Lucky Noodle, a sort-of ramen shop in town. While the two of them were occupying opposite ends of one couch, there were very few others wandering about.

The humans were in one section of the shop, rolling about and flopping all over each other. They seemed to have no sense of personal space, self control, or pride. In general the noodles tended to avoid them, though the occasional gunshot was pointed in their direction along with a lot of swearing and/or amused laughter.

Mishap uncrossed his legs and crossed them the other way, settling his laptop onto his lap again. As usual there were a few vampires running about as sparkling blurs, and there was the occasional bowl rolling along on its own and clacking up a storm. On the couch opposite them were Kale and Brenden, though he’d be attempting to not look at them.

He’d known Kale for a while… well, from a distance anyway. Brenden’s appearance had been rather recent, and not to long after that the two of them had been… well. They’d been more prone to cuddle discreetly together on a couch and generally be so slashtastic that Mishap was forced to hide behind his computer screen and distract himself on Live Journal so as to not let them know how he felt about them.

Of course that’s what Keller was looking at too. Kale was sitting with Brenden basically in his lap after all. His chin rested on the other boy’s shoulder, arms wrapping around his chest and the tip of his tail resting on Brenden’s thigh. His eyes were closed as well, but he didn’t appear to be asleep so much as completely at peace. Mishap resisted the urge to head-desk. Brenden meanwhile was enraptured by his DS, only a slight blush on his cheeks signifying that he knew what Kale was doing.

And Keller wasn’t just staring, he was scowling. Of course, that appeared to be his only expression so far, but still, it didn’t look good.

“Hey… you’re not homophobic are you?” Mishap questioned, sounding defensive for no reason.

Keller glanced back up at him, but didn’t say anything for a long moment. “No. Not in the current sense.”

Mishap arched a brow at that, thinking for a moment. “I mean… you don’t think it’s wrong or disgusting to be gay?”

Keller shook his head, unearthing a few more red-and-orange-tipped strands of his blonde hair.

Mishap frowned slightly, eyeing him with curiosity. “Are you afraid of them?”

Keller blinked at him slowly, and pushed the hair out of the way of his face. Mishap had yet to figure out if the boy’s black mask-like marking was something of a tattoo or if it was actually a mask. It only served to make him look more odd and striking; it didn’t manage to achieve the super-hero effect.

“Are you? Because, you know, that’d be alright. Even if it is… irrational.”

“Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why would that be irrational?”

Mishap chuckled a bit, glancing back over to see that Kale had wrapped his legs around Brenden’s waist now, unabashed. “Well… I guess I don’t see how you could be scared of them.”

Well, that wasn’t entirely true. He couldn’t see why your average person would be afraid of them, but clearly Keller wasn’t that person. When they’d met earlier that day, Mishap had smiled and offered the boy his hand to shake. Keller had ignored it completely, resting one of his hands on his hip and slouching a bit so that their height difference was almost laughable. And just when it seemed like he would be stuck babysitting a brat all day, Keller hadn’t given him any trouble. He seemed perfectly content to sit on his side of the couch, as far as away as possible from Mishap, and scowl silently at the world.

Since Keller hadn’t replied, and had instead gone back to scowling at the happy couple on the opposite couch, Mishap offered some advice. “Why don’t you go say hello? They won’t bite.”

Keller made a face at that, but hopped off the couch and crossed the space in hesitant steps, his hand-painted high-tops soundless on the carpet.

(Feel free to tell me of any mistakes here, next post will be from Keller's point of view.)

Keller shifted slightly, standing in front of them and brushing his tanned palms over the purple denim of his skinny-jeans. He didn’t try to smile; he’d given up trying to smile. He didn’t start a conversation or offer any sort of physical greeting; he’d long since given up on that too. He coughed slightly, slouching to consciously make himself look smaller and younger. It wouldn’t do if they took him too seriously.

Up close, the brunette looked tired. His eyes were practically golden as the flickered from his game to see who was there. Like most people he has misjudged the height of this person, and looked vaguely and probably unconsciously apologetic when he gaze slid downward to meet Keller’s own.

“Uhh…”
The boy said, looking rather frightened when he noticed Keller was scowling. He squirmed where he sat, accidentally elbowing the other boy in the ribs. His “Hello?” was almost impossible to hear over the “Ooof!” of the other.

Despite his youth, the other boy seemed to have the gray hair of a senior citizen and his eyes were almost as green as Mishap’s. He yawned into the shoulder of the other one, and blinked at Keller, smiling though it was a little closer to a smirk.
“What’s up? Need somethin’?”

Keller didn’t reply, watching as the two exchanged a glance then looked him over. They didn’t seem to find anything amiss with his attire, lucky considering they were dressed in much the same style. Though perhaps less colorful. Keller had given up trying to fit in, and similarly his clothing had become a bit more vibrant.

In a moment they grey-haired one untangled himself from the other, sitting next to him and quickly looping one arm around his shoulders. Keller was briefly surprised to find that he was the shorter of the two.

Mishap was making some sort of apologetic hand gesture slash explanation from across the room. This was only apparent because suddenly the two in front of him were staring over his head and their gazes were bouncing around as their expressions betrayed their slow shift to understanding.

“New kid in town, huh?” The shorter asked, winking and leaning heavily into the other’s side. For a moment the brunette seemed to take offence to the former action, but passed it off as harmless and gladly went back to his game. “Well I’m Kale, and this is Brenden.”

Keller didn’t respond, he’d given up on manners and making conversations easy for the other party. Brenden looked up at him a little fearfully again, then leaned back over his game and let his friend struggle instead; offering his back-up only in the form of his left foot sliding over to meet Kale’s right. Keller didn’t miss that, and they didn’t miss him not missing it.

“Err well… you got a name… or just a bit shy maybe?” Kale asked, smiling still, his tone kind but Keller couldn’t help but bristle a bit as he realized he was being treated as a child.

“Mishap finds gay couples attractive and endearing. But he says you’re harmless as well. Admittedly you don’t bite, or you haven’t yet, but I can’t quite say I share in his animosity yet. My name is Keller, and I’m little but I’m old.”
He was positive no one would pick up on the slight reference, but heard Mishap’s all-too-familiar chuckle from behind him.

Kale’s expression drooped for a moment, his whole right side pressing against Brenden’s left.
“Oh yeah? Well… I suppose I’ll just have to change your mind then!” He was grinning from ear to ear now, and Keller found it slightly remarkable that he was able to cheer himself up in moments.

Brenden appeared to find it adorable, but was incredibly hesitant to admit to that. Seeing that Keller was still standing in front of them, he waved a hand awkwardly in his direction, mumbling something unintelligible that sounded more distressed than helpful. Keller chose to pretend his didn’t understand. Kale took the opportunity to lean in as close as possible, without kissing him, to Brenden and ask him what he had said. Brenden didn’t stiffen and jump like Keller had expected, but seemed to be restraining himself from wrapping his arms around the other and burying his face into his chest.

Keller sat on the carpet then, crossing his legs and tugging the sleeves of his under armor past his wrists, clenching his fingers to keep them stretched to there. Quietly he waited, scowl firmly in place, for them to remember he was there.

Kale turned back with a smile, gaze automatically flicking downward and grinning further to find him sitting in such a fashion.
“Hey, yeah!” He exclaimed, tugging Brenden off the couch with him as he quickly mimicked Keller’s posture and forming a circle extemporaneously. Brenden understood and frantically did the same. When Kale’s hand ended up on top Brenden’s then, he didn’t move it. After a moment Brenden did slide his hand away though, smiling apologetically, because he needed it to continue his DS game.

Keller did move, shifting so that he was at least a foot further away from them. They would probably think it was because of their affectionate displays, but it was merely the proximity. He wouldn’t sit very close to Mishap either. And finally, sighing slightly, he decided to speak again, but quickly found that he didn’t know what to say.

Keller wasn’t really a try, try, and try again kind of guy. When he failed it frustrated him, so his next move would be to move on or try once more if a foolproof act was possible. When it came to not knowing what to say, he simply directed the conversation to the other side. No matter how awkward the question, it would succeed in its purpose.

“So.” He said, leaning backward a bit and eyeing them with slight disinterest, “How long have you two been making people feel like the third wheel?”

Kale pursed his lips, looking a bit worried, but it passed for his smile like always. “Aww, I’m sorry Keller. We haven’t even been married a year yet, didn’t mean to make you feel that way… just naturally affectionate I guess!” He seemed a bit proud of this, and elbowed Brenden in the side for confirmation. “Right Princess?”

“H-huh?” Brenden asked, eyes going wide before meeting Kale’s gaze and softening immediately. He nodded placidly and went back to his intense game-play, not really paying attention.

Keller leaned forward curiously, careful not to move within a one foot radius of them despite that. He knew better than to direct his questions at Brenden, and Kale’s endless sunny nature was beginning to grow on him. “What’s he playing?”

“Probably Zelda or Pokémon?” Kale said, watching him with his smirking smile. “Mishap was right you know, we aren’t gonna bite you.”

With a shrug, Keller didn’t make a move towards them or to dispute that statement, just hoped that he’d get the hint and leave it alone. He did, sitting back and resting his head on Brenden’s shoulder for a moment, constantly unable to keep his hands to himself.

Realizing this, Keller swallowed hard and scrambled back on all fours until his back hit the couch Mishap was still curled around his laptop on. Squeezing his eyes shut briefly, he did his best to squelch the urge to panic before it took hold of him. Hands shaking, his gaze flickered up to meet twin expressions of confusion and worry.

“I’m fine.” He hastened to say, though it came out snappish and a bit shaky at first. Pulling his knees up to his chest, he repeated it slower and more calmly. “I’m fine, really.”

His gaze lowered again, unable to hold theirs now, and he looked to his hands. Willing them to stop shaking, he locked his jaw and curled his toes from inside his shoes. Stop shaking damn it, stop shaking or you’ll never hold anything fragile again. Stop shaking or they’ll know you for a coward.

Brenden was watching him warily; one hand keeping hold of his now-closed DS and the other fluttering up to tug at the red collar around his neck until Kale gently tugged it loose to hold in his own. Leaning forward to look him over, wondering what had happened, Kale reached out with his other hand intending to feel Keller’s forehead when those orange eyes flashed open at him, wide and fearful. Slowly, he retracted his hand.

Smiling hesitantly, Kale sounded as friendly as physically possible. “Hey it’s alright, you’re safe y’know buddy.”

Slowly Keller’s hands stopped shaking, and he tugged his sleeves down over them again, moving only slightly closer in an effort to appear sane and trusting at the same time. “Sorry.”
