My husband still has another two years and a deployment sometime in there, but I am trying to start preparing myself for it. Honestly, I'm a bit scared of when he gets out. I've grown very accustomed to Army life and I don't know how I will adjust to civilian life again. I've only ever known my husband as a soldier, so what happens when that is taken away? Plus, how do people make friends in the civilian world? Right now, it's pretty easy to make friends, we have the army to bind us together, the army provides chances for us to meet. How do I find people to chill with after this? Plus, I've gotten use to the military providing for us, everythign from housing to health care.
Also, I don't know how the hell I will adjust to living in one place for the rest of my life.

I was scared to death of leaving the Army. For the 4 years I was on active duty the Army told me where to go, what to wear, how to wear it, when to get up, when to sleep. It provided shelter, food, health care, friends and entertainment. Your husband is probably just as concerned about leaving all that as you are but you will both get through it. That said, after my four years of active duty, I did the rest of my enlistment as an Active Reservist (one weekend a month, 2 weeks in the summer), so I didn't really go cold turkey biggrin .

He's excited to get out, he found a possible job that makes almost twice what he does now as a starting wage.
He will have had 8 years in service, so he doesn't have to be in the reserves.

Tell him congrats on the job and thanks (to both of you) for 8 years of service. Good luck on the outside!

It is a big change going from life in the military to life as a civvie. How does one make friends? Well, meet your neighbors, perhaps his new job will bring some new friendships. You can join civilian clubs with interestes you like.
