Character Name: Wykla Age: 12 Turns Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft/Rank: Candidate/Weyrbrat
History: She never knew either her father or mother. If she’s ever met them she hasn’t known it and treated them like any other Weyrfolk. During her earlier years, Wykla was raised with the other young weyrlings in the cretch. Unlike the others she preferred to spend her time playing quietly. Most games she invented for herself or with others were meant for being quiet. Because of this she was lost in the background and played by herself. Which suited her just fine.
Once she was allowed out into the Weyr on her own the first thing she did was go exploring. Everywhere she could get to had to be found and examined. She found several secluded spots that she likes to call her own. When she wants to be alone, these are where she’ll go.
When Wykla was big enough she went to the top of the Weyr where the herdbeasts for the dragons and runners were kept. After several days observation she picked up a brush for the runners and slips into a stall. Luckily it was a placid mare and when the caretaker came by he saw her brushing the mare. He watched unnoticed for several long minutes then left and said nothing. Discretely he kept his eye on her as she took it upon herself to groom the mare everyday.
Wykla had to go peak at the eggs just like any other weyrling several days after she heard they had been laid. She isn’t sure how to feel at this point. On one hand, she herself has just turned 12 turns. On the other, she would like to Impress. Would the dragons find her acceptable? More importantly, would One of them find her acceptable?
Description: Wykla still has some growing up to do. She’s flat chested not that she minds much right now. Very skinny and at only four feet tall she can be described as lanky or unfinished. Her clothes tend towards earth tones with an obvious favoring of black. Long pants are definitely preferred to skirts. Sturdy boots and a shirt with sleeves she can roll back complete her daily outfit.
Her skin when she doesn’t spend much time outside is an off white. Odd eyes often cause remark. One is pale sky blue while the other is a dark hazel. However, her most prized feature is her long, lustrous black hair. It cascades down her back in large waves to reach the small of her back.
Personality: While she can deal with people and interact with them for only so long. Kids younger than herself less than those older than her. When she’s had enough, she’s had enough, especially with young children. A lonesome child Wykla doesn’t mind being alone and often prefers it. Her avoidance of humanity seems odd until they discover she frequently spends time with animals. At ease around animals, Wykla will talk to them as if they were human and could understand her. She will talk to them about all her problems if she thinks they’ll listen.
Her personal hobbies include daydreaming, reading, and hair vanity. Daydreams include bonding an atypical dragon and/or flit with her favorite version being a matching pair. She likes to spend hours reading about adventures of past dragonriders in the scroll room. This only helps to fuel her daydreams. If nothing else, Wykla has a hair vanity. Hers specifically. She loves to spend hours, if needed, washing, drying, and styling her hair. It must have a luminous glow and fall perfectly whether framing her face or dancing in the breeze.
When asked about flits, dragons, and whers the answer is different for each. She doesn’t mind any color of flit and will rub oil on a patchy spot if asked. Dragons she feels are alright, but she has a definite preference towards atypical colors. This leads towards a favoring of atypical’s and their riders. However, when it comes to whers her response is completely negative. She doesn’t like whers at all, any color.
Wykla’s favorite time of the year is when storms come in. She loves the stormy weather along with the great heights of the cliffs. Excitement courses through her veins when she stands at the edge of the cliff. Wind gusting from an oncoming storm and laden with the smell of rain. The roar and voice of the ocean as its whipped to fury.
Unfortunately, reality comes back around in the form of chores. These are simply a necessary evil and must be endured. That is until she can slip away. If not watched closely, Wykla will find something else she’d rather do. Her least favorite chore involves anything in the kitchens. Because she has a tendency to do her own thing it brings down the wrath of authority. Most of the time she’ll shrug it off unless it affects her.
Other: I am assuming the Weyr has at least a few runnerbeasts for people to use to get around and for trader replacements for tired mounts. Not everyone has access to a dragon.

She's not a weyrling. Weyrlings are dragonriders with young dragons. She's a Candidate.
Since she has such an interest in horses, might I suggest making her an Apprentice Beastcrafter? They take care of various animals; there's probably a specialty for horses, and she's the right age to become an Apprentice. She'd still be allowed to stand as a Candidate.
History: Try to keep it to one tense. I have trouble following something when the tense consistently changes from past to present and then back to past.
Description: No complaints.
Personality: I'm... not sure what I'm reading here. The grammar is very confusing. The sentences are extremely choppy and don't make very much sense.
From what I can understand, she seems like a very shy girl, more content to spend time with animals rather than people. This could be a problem later, since dragonriders will be expected to spend lots of time with other dragonriders. Try to keep this in mind. Although, since she's still young, that could change, I guess.
You go into a lot of detail about her likes and dislikes, but that's not really a personality. It's just likes/dislikes. Try to write more about her and who she is.
My bad with the weyrling. I meant weyrbrat and got them confused. While she has an interest in horses, I didn’t want her picking a craft just yet. The other thing with that, is there someone of the beastcrafter there at the Weyr for her to apprentice to?
I’ve never been a good writer. Tense is one of the things I can’t tell when its switching. I will work on her personality. The sentences probly made sense in my mind when I typed them. I have her on the shy side since 1- technically she doesn’t know anyone from the weyr, and 2- not everyone is a social butterfly. Yes, she may have to spend a lot of time with dragonriders, but only if she impresses.
If she does impress, I was thinking her dragon would 1- help her become more sociable, or 2- be a sort of recluse like she is. This is based on the fact dragon personalities are matched to the characters.
I was under the impression that likes/dislikes are personality. They are who she is. “Personality- the total of the psychological, intellectual, emotional, and physical characteristics that make up the individual, esp. as other see him”(or her).

Who is she if not her likes and dislikes? What is personality specifically? That last sentence is very ambiguous. Could you expand on it more?

I went and looked around. I think I saw what you meant. So here's my revised history and personality. Thanks for looking them over. smile
History: Wykla never knew who her father or mother was. If she’s ever met them she didn’t know it and treated them like any other Weyrfolk. During her earlier years, Wykla was raised with the other young weyrbrats in the crèche. Unlike the others, she preferred to spend her time playing quietly. Most game she invented for herself or others were meant for being quiet. Because of this she was lost in the background and played by herself. This suited her just fine.
Once she was allowed out into the Weyr on her own the first thing she did was go exploring. Anywhere she could get to had to be found and examined. She discovered several secluded spots that she liked to call her own. When Wykla wanted to be alone these were where she went.
When Wykla was big enough she wandered to the top of the Weyr where the herdbeasts for the dragons and runners were kept. After several days of observation she picked up a brush for the runners and slipped into a stall. Luckily it was a placid mare that had no problem being brushed. The main caretaker happened by and noticed her. He didn’t say anything then, but later pulled her aside to caution her of the dangers. She enjoyed spending time quietly with the runners.
Now Wykla has just celebrated her 12th turn. Word recently circulated the Weyr that the gold had finished laying her clutch. She, like any other weyrbrat, had to go peak at the eggs. Uncertainty had filled her chest at the sight of the eggs. Would she be considered old enough to stand? To Impress?
Personality: Wykla comes off as a solemn and self contained child because of her quiet nature around other people. She tends to hold herself aloft as she watches daily activity. If you catch her when she thinks she’s alone, you’ll find that tends to speak to the animals. She feels she can be more open around animals than people. They at least won’t make fun of her if they find her thoughts funny.
In short, she seems much like an airhead.
Her problem with authority is a problem in itself. She doesn’t like to obey just anyone.
There doesn't have to be a PC---player character----for her to Apprentice to. It's fair to assume that there are NPC ---- non-player characters---- around. But you're right; she does not have to have a Craft at all. Weyrbrats commonly don't.
I'll happily explain my statement: likes and dislikes are not a personality. They might affect your personality, but they are not, by themselves, a personality. I like kittens. I'm also a somewhat cynical know-it-all. There's really no connection between being a cynical know-it-all and kittens.
To me, personality is what a person is like. Are they quiet? Loud? Obnoxious? What are their personality traits? What are their personal strengths/weaknesses? How do they act around other people? Are they a leader/follower? Optimistic/Pessimistic? All of this factors into a personality.
Reading accepted profiles can be a great help to defining this.
History: Much better.
Personality: Also much better. I'd still like to hear more about her strengths and weaknesses. What is she good at? What is she not so good at? How does she react when she's caught slipping away from duty? Does she pretend that it didn't happen? How else does her problem with authority affect her?
