Prologue
Under the setting sun and the rising moon, a trainer watches his Pokemon play in the lakes of Mount Cineris. "Keep away from the magma", he says as he walks down to the lake edge. "I don't want any of you to get burned." His Gardevoir, Leyla, looks up and splashes a small wave of water at him, playfully encouraging him to join her and the rest of his team. He smiles as he wipes the water from his eyes. "Not tonight Leyla, I've been called in for another review of my, excuse me, our battling style."
Leyla frowned slightly and hung her head. She knew what he meant, another trainer had complained about her master and his gym. Even though she never fought in any of the gym battles, she was always at his side and saw all that happened on the field. The last battle was greatly fought, until one of the opponents Pokemon died. "Hey now, don't be sad, it'll be alright. I promise." He places his hand on her shoulder and she looks up at him. She knew he didn't usually promise anything and when he would promise something, he kept to it and made it true. Leyla began to smile and threw her arms around him in a hug.
Soon it was time to go and he called his Pokemon back before heading to Gunner Town, a town known for its Safari Zone and local courthouse. He waved to a few friends as he made his way to the courthouse and greeted the receptionist when he got inside. "Hello Joyce, same room as last time?"
"Yes sir, Mr. Blackwell", she says with a smile.
"Please, it's Michael", he says, returning the smile. "I prefer my friends to know me personally."
"I know. I just like the sound of it."
"I know, I just like giving you a hard time." They laugh together for a minute before a tall, well-dressed man calls Michael into his office.
"What happened this time Michael? Was it Eseld again?"
"Sir, you know I won't betray which of my Pokemon did it and all I have to say in my defense, is that I should muzzle them but I will never do so as it restricts their freedom."
The man turns and looks to the Slowking beside him and they converse telepathically. "The body showed that it was a beak that delivered the final blow to the Scyther, so we know it was Eseld."
"It was an accident, sir. She's still wild at heart and was trying to defend herself."
"We know, but that doesn't excuse the fact that a Pokemon murdered another", the Slowking said telepathically.
"We can't allow you to use her in your gym battles anymore and we will also have to suspend you until we can convince the trainer to drop the charges."
"Charges!? For a battle gone wrong!?"
"Yes, they say you purposely allowed it so they wouldn't win."
"That's insane! I have no reason to do that!"
"Please, calm down and think of it as a vacation, a vacation you've been depriving yourself of."
"...I could use one...now that you mention it. Why not, go ahead and give me the suspension. I'll have my apprentice take over until I get back." The man and Slowking smile and he hands Michael a slip of paper.
"Now that that's done, what do you plan on doing?"
"I think I'll go on a second journey, Jerry. Slowking is right about my lack of vacation time." Michael smiles and the three talk and laugh for a while before he finally has to leave.
"Have a good night Jer and give the wife my greetings."
"I will and good luck on your journey." The two wave and Michael heads home to get ready before leaving for his vacation.

Chapter One
Michael releases his Pokemon when he gets home and, with help from Leyla, starts to fix a small dinner. "I'm afraid I have some bad news, but I also have good news."
Leyla stops her work on the salads and the other members of the team, including Eseld, look up at him from their chores. "What is it Michael?", Leyla asked, knowing he was happy but unsure of what the news was.
"Well, the bad news is that I got suspended." Gasps and looks of shock come from all but Eseld, who hangs her head in disappointment of herself. "Eseld, it's ok. Nothing will happen to you, I just can't have your assistance in the gym battles anymore." Eseld hides her head under her wing and begins to sob. "Eseld, please don't cry. You're a beautiful, darkened Articuno, with a passion for fighting, I know, but this is the only way they'll let me keep you. I'm not going to give you up and I won't be fighting these battles without you, ok?", he says as he rubs her back in her favorite spot and tries to comfort her. She finally removes her head a few seconds later and rests it on his shoulder. He decides to take this moment to hug her and she chirps in happiness when he does.
"Are you ready for the good news now?" Eseld nods and moves away from Michael to stand with the others. "I've decided that we should use this as a vacation." There was a moment of silence and then smiles appeared around him.
"What shall we do on this vacation?", asks Leyla as she urges the others to hurry and finish their chores before starting on the salads again.
"I was thinking a second journey around Ugania."
"A second journey? Why?"
"I thought it would be fun for all of us."
"Hm, I think it would be fun too."
"You always agree with my ideas, why?"
"Because you have good ideas, of course."
The two finish preparing the meal and set it up at the table before the others finish and before long, everyone is at the table, eating happily while talking excitedly. Michael eats in silence as his partners talk amongst themselves about the journey they'll be going on tomorrow.
After the meal, Michael insists on cleaning up and succeeds in getting everyone, except Jericho, to bed. The two split the jobs and hurry to finish so they can go to bed. Michael works on cleaning the dishes and Jericho cleans up the table. They finish a few minutes later and each head to their own bed.
----- Might be added onto, watch for it! Decided not to add anything onto it.

Chapter Two
The next morning Michael gets up earlier than he usually does and goes to check on his Pokemon. He walks silently down the hall and checks in each of their rooms. He smiles after making sure everyone is asleep and silently makes his way downstairs and into the kitchen to make them breakfast. He starts by taking out some sausage links, eggs, milk, cereal, strawberries, and bananas. He fixes the breakfast as quietly as possible and sets up the table while the sausage and eggs cook, careful to get back in time before anything gets burned. After setting up the table with the food, he goes out to the shed in the backyard to get some precious stones and gems for Jericho to eat. He places the stones at Jericho's place at the table before writing a note and setting a timer to go off so that they'll wake up before their breakfast gets cold. He leaves soon after to make arrangements at the gym, his note explaining this to them so that they won't worry too much when they can't find him.
Michael walks down the abandoned road to his gym and sees his apprentice waiting by the door, eager for this morning's training session. "It's good to see such a studious pupil maintain their schedule, even when the master is leaving for awhile."
"What? Why are you leaving, sir?"
"My reasons for leaving aren't important. What is important, is that you, Adam, now have a test to pass."
"Test? Sir, what test are you talking about?"
"You will be in charge of the gym until I return, whenever that may be. I know that you're ready for this and I trust you to know who deserves to pass through this gym as victors and make their way to the Elite Four. Even if they defeat you, you must make them aware of the challenges ahead from this point on. The gyms are trivial compared to the Elite Four of this region and they won't last very long if they don't know what they're doing."
"You really think I'm ready for this?"
"Yes, and if you prove yourself to be as good as I expect you to be, you'll own the gym."
"Sir?"
"I've been training you to take over one day and this may be the time for you to take over. Do you want this chance or not?"
"Yes, sir. I want this chance to prove myself."
"Good. Here's the keys so you can get started for today." Michael reaches into a coat pocket and pulls out a ring of spare keys for the gym and tosses them to him.
"Thank you, sir." He says as he catches the keys.
Michael only smiles before turning and walking back the way he came. He kept walking until a Pidgey landed on his shoulder and started pecking at his shoulder in Morse code, something that Leyla had a habit of teaching to Pokemon when she and his other partners wanted to find him. "Tell them I'll be home soon.", he said to the Pidgey. The Pidgey nods a few times in acknowledgment and flies off towards Michael's home to deliver the reply. Michael then starts walking back home as the Pidgey leaves.
He gets back in time to find them cleaning up their meal and thinks that they're happy until Leyla confronts him. "Why did you just leave like that?"
"I'm sorry, but I had to let my apprentice know that he'll be taking over for a while, maybe even permanently if things go well."
"Permanently? What about your promise to Eseld? You know she loves those battles."
"Yes, I do know and even if I don't keep the gym, she'll still have battles to fight."
"Where?"
"The Battle Frontier is one of many places she'll be free to battle."
Leyla stares at Michael in silence and he eventually understands why she's upset.
"I know, but we can't let that control where we go or how we fight."
"And if it happens again?"
"I'll make sure it won't happen again, but if it does...I don't know."
"Well, figure it out before we risk more than we should, please?" Leyla turns to go to her room and get her travel bed ready.
Michael goes and packs a small backpack for his Pokemon's needs and a few of his own needs before going into the kitchen and stocking up on food supplies. When he's finished, he goes and waits as each of his Pokemon show up ready to go. Within minutes, everyone is ready and they head out on their second journey through Ugania.
----- No notes here. For those wondering why Leyla and Michael talk together so often, it's explained simply by saying him and all his Pokemon, who he refers to as partners, are one, big family. Michael and Leyla work together to take care of the others. Leyla is also a bit more conscious about the feelings of this family and strives to keep everyone happy.
