My friend has developed a new type of light saber. the idea behind it is that there are 3 blades, its like a staff where there are 2 handles, beam's on the 2 ends of each one. Theres a beam in the middle that connects the 2 blades and the length between the 2 blades can move to be longer or shorter.

He developed a new lightsaber that is accepted as Canon by Lucas Arts? I think not! - A fan design that seems rather stupid given the fact the center of the weapon could kill you the moment you forget it's there.

Yes and the middle is adjustable so it can be longer or shorter.

Impractical and wielder-dangerous. Besides, lightsaber beams are only adjustable in various constant sizes, nobody has the reflexes to keep one moving in a constant adjustment.

I call foul

Having a beam in the center is pointless, and a hazard to the user. Not only do you have to not worry about cutting yourself with the main blade(s), but the middle one as well. This also prevents you from engaging in the more acrobatic facets of being a Jedi, since your weapon is a lot less stable now.

And someone else mentioned that the center blade can't be adjusted. He's right: adjusting the blade is an impossibility and would require a far more powerful magnetic field. Plus, the design is against the concept of a saber, since there's only supposed to be one emitter per blade.

I wouldn't use this is the Emperor paid me a planet's worth of gold-plated latinum.
