What do people who practice Islam actually do when they are in a Mosque? How does it differ from Catholic practices in a church?

* We dont sit in pews, we sit on rugs.
* When we pray, we dont bow our heads, we go through a series of movements, involving "prostrating" which is being on hands & knees and putting the forehead to the floor.
* No singing.
* Men & women sit seperatley.

no singing, ah? does that include Chantsor Mantras of any kind? o.o i'd like to know the reason behind the not singing. i assume of course that that's only within a Mosque, and that prayer-songs exist for personal independant prayer. sweatdrop please correct me if i am mistaken.
