Smart music is a program that is suppose to make practicing fun...I feel that's not the case as my Band director has become completely obsessed with this program using it as a grading tool rather than listening to us play various trouble spots ourselves he instead uses this program to test us without even bothering to listen and check it himself. I had hoped it would just be one of those Band director phases where he makes us do a stupid excercise for a week or two then never mentions it again, It's lasted for the whole school year.

My question is this. Are there any other people out there who have to tolerate the dreaded Smart music, and if so do you like it? Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks.

A few years ago, the jazz instructor was bent on everyone using SmartMusic. I never did, even though I bought it. I have made heavy use of the instrument mic that came with it though. razz

Likewise, and it's almost the same situation XD my director got it thinking it was the best thing since sliced bread, No one ever uses it and about once a week he chews us out saying "we're wasting a perfectly good program" the only thing I use it for it listening to pieces I think would be fun to play in band.

I despise SM. We had to test on a song that went at 136, and I, on piccolo, had straight eighth-notes repeating the same 2 notes over and over again. It kept speeding up and slowing down, so I got really frustrated. I had that for 10 straight measures, so I had to stagger-breathe, so it counted the notes I missed wrong. And then, this one time, I was staying with my best friend Hannah, waiting for her to finish testing, so I was watching her go over what it counted wrong. She yelled "OHMYGOD, HAYLEY, LOOK AT THIS CRAP". I look, and apparently, she played a G# when she was SUPPOSED to play an Ab. xd We just sat there cracking up, and our BD came to see what we were yelling about. So now our BD refers to it as 'Below-average-intelligence Music'. lol

I don't mind it for fun...
but really, that's all it should be.
There's no musicality about it at all.
It's all very robotic and gets bland after awhile.
There's no director to add musicality to it and the rigid time structure doesn't allow for the player to do anything other than what's strictly written--which I find boring.
My director is going to use it next year but I doubt he'll keep up with it; he's way too disorganized and scatter brained for it, lol.
