Swamped! - Part One

So Christmas was over and new years was the next day. Ianna had had a few days to recooperate (Minus the trauma to the head and the visit with the hellion kitty.), and she was currently lounging on the couch reading a book.

The little sidhe who had just discovered she could walk (albeit clumsily) was asleep in her crib. Thankfully, she couldn't levitate more than a few inches in the air and was unable to get out of the little white crib. Ianna had the night, and headquarters to herself.

Or so she thought. It was short lived when the familiar whine of Matilda's voice entered her head.

"Wand's been awakened, in the south. You need to go grab it...though, I'd bring boots. Thick ones. It's in one of the swamps, and it's not pretty."

Ianna froze. "Snakes?"

"Probably"

God damnit, she hated snakes. "Okay...and Coailiann?"

"I'll watch her."

"Okay..." And she was instantly transported in the center of a very large swamp. With boots, thankfully.

"So...somewhere...in this swamp there's a wand...?"

"Yep. You know the drill."

Ianna made a face...god DAMN this place smelled. First one foot lifted, then another, and slowly Ianna made her way, waist in, through the swamp. The loud squelching sounds echoed through the air. God she hated this.

"You know what I do for you, I wouldn't do for anyone else?"

"Yep."

A hiss. Ianna turned around, seeing a snake slither through the water, she yelped and jumped up, falling completely into the swamp, the muddy water clinging to her silver hair.

Ianna flailed, trying to straighten herself out, and grabbed ahold of what she thought to be a root. It came free as she stood up again, now sopping wet. "Ah. Found it." she muttered. "Can I go home now? I smell like sewage."

It was the day after she had found the wand and Ianna was sitting behind the desk of the shop, scribbling notes on the new wand. Said wand was laying on the desk beside her, along with the large leather bound Book of Life and Death which never left it.

Her silvery eyes were half drooped in fatigue, and Coailiann was currently sitting to her left and gnawing on a pretzel. Her new love.

"Wonder who the next guardian will be, eh Kay?"

Kay just babbled.

Amparo looked around absently as she wandered towards the Wand Shoppe, biting her lower lip slightly. She felt like she was both being followed, and being literally pushed in the direction of the Wand Shoppe. Whatever bloody thing is shovin' me to this place, it better stop bein' s'damn pushy. She thought absently, breaking into a jog towards the shop.

Finally the hispanic-french witch was at the shop, and entered quietly, looking around. She sniffed absently and rubbed her nose, walking around quietly. "Hello?" She called quietly, eyes carefully examining the various objects in the shoppe, determining what was dangerous and what wasn't...

Finally she neared the desk in the shop, and spotted Ianna. She smiled slightly. "Hello there." She greeted, rubbing her neck. What was she doing here? She glanced around again, biting her lip sheepishly.

A voice entered Ianna's head, prodding her to tell her that the new owner of a wand had finally entered. Which wand it was, Ianna had no clue. Thankfully, the book would know.

"I know, I know." Ianna muttered, seemingly to herself. "I'm not stupid, I feel it." She knew that the woman would think she was insane for talking to herself.

"Urm, Hi!" Ianna answered quietly and she smiled a bit, fidgeting with the book that had slid itself over to her. "Welcome to Ghosts of the Past..."

Coailiann echoed her mother's words, in her own baby speech. "Ghosblpah."

Amparo smiled slightly. "Thanks. I'm, uh, I'm Amparo. Amparo Fernandez. Uh, I... this is gonna sound insane." She looked sheepish. "But something just kinda told me to come here." Amparo rubbed her neck sheepishly.

She heard the baby speech, and glanced down, looking amused. "She's cute... What's her name?" She asked, watching the baby with an amused and motherly look on her face.

Ianna smirked a little. "Mmm, yes, I suppose you were. If you're curious as to why...well, you should read this book."

The woman pushed the book towards her, tilting her head a little bit. Wondering what her reaction would be to the sudden glowing and blowing of dust and pages and whatnot that would occur the second she touched the book.

Though she doubted anything could beat the black-man's reaction.

When the blowing suddenly stopped and pages settled, a sketch of the southern wand, perfectly sketched and matching the wand laying on the desk, could be seen. Beneath the picture, it read:

"The South. Wand ID 00007. A Soul has been trapped within the confines of the wand. Congratulations, you have become the next guardian to take on the task of raising it from infancy to greatness. We, Ianna and I, have the upmost faith in you to complete your task dutifully. Best of luck,

Matilda."

"Congratulations, Ms. Amparo, You're a mommy."

Amparo arched a dark eyebrow as the book was pushed towards her, and she reached out her hand gently to touch the book, ready to flip it open and find out why she was pushed to this shop by some unseen force.

She let out a yelp when the book began to glow, and the book itself began to flip through pages. A little startled, she stepped forward when it stopped flipping, and frowned.

She saw the sketch of the southern wand, and reached out gently, tracing her fingers along the sketch. She read the words beneath it quietly, and frowned slowly.

"But...." Amparo took a deep breath. "This means I have to take care of a piece of wood, and whatever soul's inside?" She looked at the woman. "I'm not ready to be a mother! I'm barely ready to take care of me an' Antonio!" She insisted, closing her eyes tight.

"You've got t'be kidding me..."

At least she was taking it slightly calmer than the black man? "Nope, not kidding you." she slid the wand over to her. "Meet your kid." she almost cackled at that and bent down, picking her daughter up.

"This is Coailiann, by the way. She came out of a wand too, going into toddlerhood and is a little brat, but I love her anyway." she chuckled and snuggled the little girl, who grabbed at her mother's hair and shoved it in her mouth, giggling. "Yeah....Anyway."

Amparo eyed the wand gently, and bit her lip, picking it up slowly. "Well, when'll it... erm... hatch?" That wasn't the right term. She coughed. "I mean... Yeah. The baby'll come out of this?" She frowned, examining the wand carefully.

She looked over at the baby, and smiled slightly. "She's absolutely precious." Amparo laughed quietly. "My own, Antonio, he's a bit of a brat too. Can't help but love him, the little Prince." She shook her head and smiled, getting used to the familiar weight of the wand in her hand. "How long did it take until she came out of the wand?" She asked, frowning sheepishly.

"The spirits are all different, it's never easy to tell. There will be two stages before it becomes an infant, a wisp and a baby ghost. Wisp is the most delicate stage..It's easiest to be deformed then." Ianna paused. "From the baby ghost, it'll solidify into a human child."

Coailiann snuggled into her mother and stared at the lady quietly. Another baby? she had to meet it! And she said she was precious! That earned MAJOR points in the little sidhe's book.

"Thank you...she's precious, but a little candy coated evil, I think." she chuckled and stroked her daughter's head. "A little rebel sidhe."

"Sidhe?" She frowned, and thought back. That sounded really, really familiar. Amparo dismissed it and smiled. "I see." She nodded a little, and bit her lip.

"This is going to be fun to explain to the boys." Amparo couldn't help the amused look on her face at the thought of Antonio and Jonathan's reaction to the wand.

She bit her lip and sighed. "Speaking of the boys... I should get home and tell them before they find out on their own." She rubbed her neck sheepishly. "They're not exactly the patient type." Patient? Far from it. Antonio and Jonathan had been getting into hella mischief whenever she left them alone for a few hours. It was hell going to the supermarket and coming back to a torn apart house and a soot-covered Changeling. Oy.

Ianna laughed softly. "I wouldn't dream of leaving Coailiann alone, so I know what you mean...Matilda was a slightly better baby..She was the one who created this place....Urm...Before you go though..." she paused and then found a piece of paper, golden words saying 'press me' glittering on the parchment.

"Press that?"

As soon as Amparo so much as touched it, she was transported into a large room. As they entered the main lobby Via the portal connecting the shoppe and the headquarters, the first thing they would notice is the vast...largeness...of it. The high ceilings, edged with gold, the large chandeliers dripping with crystals, the smooth white tile-floors, colorful rugs, and beautiful paintings.

To the left was a large recreational area complete with a large flat-screen television, several rows of various games, movies, video game systems and books. There was a basket of toys in the corner, full of plushies, dolls, cards and various other objects which would appeal to most ages. Included in the area were several comfy looking couches and plush chairs just made for sitting, lounging or bouncing in. It seemed to be heaven on a fluffy carpet. It even had a foos-ball table and an air-hockey table....and for the slightly more food-minded GoTP, a mini fridge always full.

To the right was a large elaborate counter, which seemed to have a force-field of some sort around it, keeping anyone who was not Ianna or Matilda from going behind it. On the counter lay a roster with the names of all the Ghostly children and their guardians, and an appointment book.

From there, it branched off into halls with rows and rows of rooms. Some were storage, some were guest rooms, some were bathrooms, and one very large and ornate door to the end of the hall led to the gardens. "Welcome to Headquarters, Amparo... You're welcome here at any time."

Amparo arched an eyebrow slightly, and pressed her finger to the paper. She let out a surprised yelp when she was suddenly transported into the vast Headquarters, and looked around curiously. "Wow..."

She smiled slightly at Ianna. "Thank you, Miss..." She bit her lip, looking around curiously, and then smiled at her again. "I'll be back, no doubt about that." She promised, grinning sheepishly. "And thank you for... for this." She held up the wand slightly, careful of it.

"Now... I should be off." She looked around for the exit sheepishly, and then frowned. "Uh... where do we get out of here?" She asked, rubbing her head childishly.

Ianna pointed to the door to the side of the large desk. "Right through that door you go back to the shop, and then you know where that exit is. From now on, you can come through that door to get here...I just like the Paper portal." she smirked and then leaned against the desk with her daughter.

"Enjoy your new son or daughter...and be careful when it turns into a wisp, eh?"

Amparo nodded slightly, and smiled. "Thanks, Miss Ianna." She headed for the door, thoughts reeling on the wand now in her possession, and the child it would soon become.

I managed to adopt another child without even trying. This really says something about my maternal skills. Amparo sighed, and smiled to herself, heading home.

Now to explain to the boys...
