 Like Blackjack, Hammer is black. Thing is, Hammer is actually an automaton made my Lyra's father, Hephaestus. Hammer has red hooves, and deep eyes. Hammer is built to carry large weight, like many mallets, or just Hephaestus kids.

 ℓчrɑ ʝonesWalking into the stables was one of the things she rarely liked to do. She had an automaton, Hammer, her 'horse' that had been sent for a birthday by her father. Unfortunately once a Poseidon found out that there was a horse in the armory, he told Chiron. That led to the centaur forcing her to put the robot in the stables. Unfortunately that led to many fixes in the middle of the night, as fire+water didn't mix well with Hammer. She knew it would bad for her to tell the world that it was actually an automaton, but she wasn't ready of that.
And anyways, she preferred keeping the secret of how the hooves were a vibrant red. Entering Hammer's stall, she petted his side, turning him on. His eyes flashed red, and he neighed.
