I've had top braces for a few months and just got bottom braces a few hours ago. I hate them. When I play clarinet, they don't really affect me, but when I play trumpet, they hurt really bad.

Do you have braces? Do they affect your playing?

I have both rows of braces, as well as rubber bands in when I play, and they don't really have any effect. I can still hit a C out of nowhere with little to medium difficulty on trumpet, and on trombone I can play even higher with the same skill i could without braces. I think they make you better, really.

I've had braces for like three and a half years.
I don't know a thing about playing a trumpet though.
It must hurt though.
I also agree with Paintbrushes.
They make you better.
( getting them off tomorrow, and I'm nervous )

I have braces, and I play trumpet. I got them last year, right before a three hour marching band rehearsal. My lips bled, but now they are tough, and my playing has not been affected at all. Take it easy for a little bit, and then slowly nurse your chops back to there original health. I play lead, and my braces haven't held me back at all, a small set back, yes, but if you work hard, and are easy the first week (I wasn't, due to marching band, so it was very painful) you should get your playing back to where it used to be, or even better!

Hmm. I never really had a problem with my bottom braces. I got top and bottom in my second year of playing. Like Atomic Tangerine said, just take it easy for a while. I had to ask if I could take a break from playing for a few days before I could play. Eventually, after practice (I don't remember how long D: ), you'll be fine! Heck, I got my braces off at the end of band camp and had major problems playing without them (I'm all normal now ^-^), so it just takes getting used to. If you have problems with the brackets, try using wax. It helps if it stays on them (which mine never did stare ). Good luck!

Let's see..the first days, I was right back to manic practice. It was weird for awhile, it was that sensation of SOMETHING IN MY MOUTH! Then I got used to it. Then, in the final days to my braces, they put on the criss-crossing rubber bands, and I couldn't play at all. Then, they took them off, it took a few days to get used to.

I play clarinet, and when I had braces, there was no issue, I still played well.

I played alto saxophone and got braces right when I was beginning to play (at around eleven). It affected my playing a little bit (I kinda sucked at tongueing for some reason), but now, I'm pretty good.

I had braces when I first started playing brass. When I got them off, my tone improved and my range doubled. Wax is your friend.

i dont have braces but i know when you get braces you cant play your instrument for a few days maybe not on other people(my friends had braces so she couldnt play her saxophone for a few days)......when i was trying out for trumpet the band director told me that when you play trumpet with braces it really hurts....

Braces only hurt when you get them adjusted at an appointment, other than that, it just takes some time to get used to playing with that.

I play flute so they don't really affect how I play, but I can see why that would be difficult. I'm sorry sad
