So I live in the middle of the Olympic National Forest up here is Washington state, there is like 800 million cedar trees out here, so I was gunna learn how to make smudge sticks. YAY!!!!! After I do I will sell em, or give em away. I let you guys know how I did.

When I make sage sticks, I tie the sage while it's still fresh, that way you can tie tight and and it won't crumple. I use warp cord, but kite string, candle wick, any sting about that size will work. As you wrap, knot often so as your knots burn, there are more and your wrap wont fall all apart. This should work for cedar too, but I've never tried cedar. I hope this info helped.
I have never had any go bad drying like this, but I always told myself if I made REALLY fat ones, I would dry them in the oven.

Boyfriend says to take them fresh, wrap them REALLY tight, make it into a cigar shape, then hang it up to dry.
He's made a sage smudge. I don't quite understand how they work, although I've used it before. I would imagine it'd quickly catch fire and poof, be gone..

I have a lot of pine trees near my house, and if you can make it work with cedar, i'd like to try it with pine.

Probably gonna need a good thick plate to burn them on, unless you are only using needles. Even then, the sap will bubble.
Anyone got a cast iron frying pan? Sans enamel?

I know how school is, takes all the extra time when it is exam time.
I cut and tied a few bundles of lavender last week, but haven't had any time between school and work to cut rosemary or even the yummy blackberry leaves to dry.
Looking forward to the week and a half of off time between classes.
