Ethe observed Divintra's reaction shrewdly. Her judgment of him improved slightly after hearing him work past her threats to get to the point. Good. He could focus. Maybe the male wouldn't fall apart and kill her mission. She could only hope he'd stay so cooperative.
The mage quickly answered, "We go meet them."
Hm. He was probably fishing for a little more detail than that.
"The Ardulaema have been busy gathering information about them, now it's up to us to look for them. Easy, right?" She slapped her hands together. "I hope you are ready. I see you have a bag. If you can fit any provisions in there, you might want to do so. You'll have long enough to stop in the marketplace while we're going."
Ethe snatched her own bag from the side table.

Meet them... A part of him felt apprehension at this next move. What was he supposed to do exactly? Just..stand there and look pathetic?
~Well that will not be a problem.~ Lin's crisp and condescending voice trickled into his mind. As Ethe would mention his bag, he felt it was not outside of the ordinary to reach down and give it a small pat. Though in doing so he knew he was lightly smacking the area that Lin was coiled. He did not want her scolding him now. Later though. Later she could scold him all she wished, later when he did not have to worry about being judged and possibly gaining a females ire.
"I... Yes Lady." Divintra stopped himself from adding any more information. She had already expressed her disinterest in him personally. He did not think now was a good time to share either. Surely there would be many attempts soon enough to make such errors.
He did have enough gold saved on him but... "Exactly...how long of a duration might I expect to be purchasing supplies for? I...prefer to travel light." That was...a sensible question wasn't it?

"How long?" Ethe snorted, "I don't care. How long do you think it'll be before I think about what you need again?" She shrugged and started checking through her own bag. "We'll play it by ear. You won't starve."
That was a perfectly good enough answer for her. As long as the male stayed alive, she would feel like she was meeting some minimum requirement. She found a small pouch of money in her bag and tossed it over. "Here. Hang on to it. Even though I'll say you've paid me, you never know what they'll want to extort. You'll thank me later when you don't have to pay with anything other than coins."
The mage promptly left the room. Ethe didn't linger over waiting for her somewhat willing partner. If he caught up, they wouldn't have a problem. If he took too long and she had to stop and go back for him, she would have a good excuse to get angry. A win-win in her book.

The abrasive words of Ethe did not disturb Divintra as much as one may have thought. Her nature and demeanor seemed quiet typical in truth. This familiarity of expected personality caused Divintra to actually relax. Though he did not smile, the tightness in his jaw and about his eyes softened. When Ethe found what she was looking for, Divintra had actually assumed she had been looking just to show how unconcerned she was with his presence. It would be like a female to act like he was so completely beneath her notice as to find any reason to look away from him. Divintra was surprised though when the small pouch was tossed to him. He held his hands cupped out, like a boy just learning to catch, and fumbled to keep the bag from falling to the ground.
"Wha?" Divintra almost spoke without thinking. His purple eyes flickered with first incomprehension, then realization as just what the female had been hinting to. Divintra shuffled his hands up and grabbed at the bag. He intended to peer within. So he could take stock of the mount he'd just been handed. However, Ethe had left the room quiet swiftly. Lin poked her little mist head over the edge of his bag, her mouse ears pinned back, and he heard her warning nudge for him to move his feet. Divintra glanced up and gave a start. His feet quickly moved and his hands blindly tucked the money pouch into his messenger bag as he hurried to catch up with Ethe.
He wanted to ask her some more questions...but Divintra found Lin warning him to be silent.
~When she wants you to know something she will tell you. Just be a good boy and follow her for now.~ Lin spoke with a unpleasant sense of approval. She had been trying for so long now to make him behave like a 'proper male.' and this situation seemed to please her more then Divintra cared to know.

Oh. Lloth would just have to find him to test me with. Some drow that could barely catch a bag! Ethe grimaced and could hear her unfortunate companion hustling after her. She didn't stop until she exited one of the many side doors of the House, stepping down the short flight of stone steps to a paved landing. She waited.
She waved at the curious guards and they ignored Divintra. "Well, come on." She headed sharply downwards, taking an alley that wound into the nearest marketplace. For their journey Ethe had wisely left behind some of her more ostentatious and obviously expensive accessories. She didn't look like her normal self coming from a high noble house, and that would be something she'd have to remember. It made her blood boil to imagine the drow around her reacting without even averting their eyes or stepping aside. Ethe huffed to herself. It was surprising. She would never consider herself overly reliant on her status, yet here she was noticing the lack of it.
The tall female stopped short in the alley, taking advantage of their moment of semi-privacy, and spun around to face Divintra. "Alright. Say whatever you need to say. Ask me whatever you've got. This might be our last chance before we start lying our asses off."

Divintra pushed the bag of coins into his satchel. He would look through it later. As he followed on Ethe's heels, he made certain to close the flap over Lin's peeking head. He did not want his mistform companion to be noticed. She could become a useful tool in helping him escape later after all. "Coming." He murmured softly in reply to her verbal prodding.
Divintra followed her into the alley, expecting her to press on. So when she stopped short, Divintra bumped gently into her before he had a chance to bring himself to a stop as well. Having Ethe round on him, it caused Divintra to take a quick step back. His purple eyes focused upwards on her features. Say what he needed to say? A hundred different questions filtered through his head. Since she had given him permission to speak...
"I... What exactly is this story your going to tell them? How do I or you know about them? Why are you interested in helping me?" Divintra's hands lifted and he gave a small flutter of his fingers as he spoke. Why am I the one you wish to use for this? Why can't your plan work without me? Do we have to go all the way to the surface? How long will this take? For that matter what exactly am I supposed to do? Just be quiet and go where they tell me? What if they wish proof of some sort?"
He was rambling, but he had a excellent excuse for it. He was anxious with fear. He was not certain he would even come out of this alive! In his head he heard Lin scolding him again, and he pushed her voice down as he struggled with his own thoughts.

Ethe made a face, shifting her head to the side as she took in the rambling string of questions. She felt like stopping him about the time he got to the third question, but she let Divintra keep going. If this burst would keep him from cracking later then the mage was all for it. This is going to be the longest journey of my life.
She shrugged and delayed her answer, trying to parse through the wall of queries and nervousness, feeling exasperated and not at all as overwhelmed as she probably should have.
"Just keep on thinking I'm helping you." Ethe muttered to herself and stifled a grimace. Not to be cruel but she had some idea that her matron considered albinos to be particularly handy in their line of work. If he got away out there on the surface, well, it might end better for him.
She stayed still long enough to watch for a subtle sign. A flash of sign language from one of the Ardulaema. He disappeared quickly again and Ethe needled Divintra to get moving. It seemed their targets were on the move as well.
"I've got connections, I'm interested in profits not you, and you're just some kid I'm taking advantage of because you blindly trusted me. Yes, we're going to the surface. Yes, it will take way too long. Yes, stay quiet. And no, I'm the one they'll be testing. So you better become my biggest fan."

Helping him? She meant as part of the ruse right? Divintra's purple eyes furrowed as he looked at Ethe. There was no way he could possibly ever believe she really meant to help him. If anything he was particularly paranoid she would ditch him in the middle of this mission of her's and leave him stranded somewhere bound to get him killed! When Ethe poked for him to get moving again, Divintra slipped his hands into the pockets of his pants. He was feeling only a little more calm, perhaps due to the fact he'd had more time to absorb his situation, and did not have a Matron looming over him or some frightening male hauling him around like a naughty urchin caught trying to flick bug's into a passing females cleavage.
Inwardly Divintra winced as Lin picked up on his random thoughts and started to scold him. He had never done that before and never would be tempted to try!
Divintra's eyes blinked as he forced his thoughts to stay focused on Ethe as she began to speak again. He did not know what sort of things she was using to guide herself, as he was unfamiliar of such secret signals being exchanged. Divintra's eyes darted about as he followed Ethe. Her answers finally came, and in much the same rapid shot manner he had questioned her. Profits did make for a very convincing excuse for what she was doing. But himself? Divintra could not stop his small nose from wrinkling when she told him he was 'blindly trusting' her. That made him out to be quiet the sap. A fool. It was somewhat insulting really. However, he did not think they had time to mesh out a more pride saving excuse for their clearly unusual partnership.
Divintra tilted his head as Ethe informed him that he was to be her supporter. Well...now was not the time to challenge her. Perhaps later on, if he thought it might save him some trouble, he could use this to his advantage...but he was not positive how. Ah! How he regretted this job! He wished he had never taken the task that had led him to this situation.
"I...will do what I can." He murmured softly before falling silent.
