ENEMY,

(( God, this post took forever to get to... I'm sorry, everyone involved! v.v;; To clarify Fefnir's little bit at the end, he's basically ordering all the NPC shinigami who surely would have gathered to go away so only the player-characters remain. Basically, if you posted, keep your character here. ))

It was... dark. Not dark outside, but just behind Fefnir's eyelids. How stereotypical... the captain thought as he opened his eyes, laying on his back and staring up at an overcast sky. The bad guy always has to use darkness, doesn't he? Can't the evil dude just ONCE not be based on the idea that black = horrible badness?

That blast had really hit pretty hard for a stereotype, though; for how much he was sure he could defeat his opponent, that was rapidly not seeming like a possibility, especially since he couldn't muster up the energy to move as quickly as he'd have liked. Must have been the old age getting to me, huh? the red man sarcastically commented in his head as he pulled himself out of the wreckage of...

"MY OFFICE!"

Damn him. Damn him to HELL.

-------------------------------------------------------------

It was several moments later that, after having removed splinters from his back and recovered his weapons from nearby craters (the b*****d would pay for making him drop Arthion) that Fefnir reappeared on the hilltop in not too bad of shape, all things considered, especially the rather large gash in his back that adrenaline had numbed. It was then that his eyes beheld a rather disturbing fact: the Arrancar was gone, and with him, all traces of his distinctly evil feeling had disappeared! This meant no trail, no way to find the b*****d, and since the only real damage was to Fefnir's pride and office (I just got done renovating that place!), there wasn't much reason to actually go after him, wherever he was now.

There were a few shinigami that the captain recognized that had seen things, though; he could get more details about what happened in a few minutes. For now, he would get everyone out of here and call in some investigators to check things out. "Everyone clear out!" Fefnir announced, projecting his voice as best as he could over the hill, "Unless you were close enough to see the whites of that guy's eyes, get out of here! If you were close, get over here so I can get some statements from you!"

((I will be posting tomorrow night. I was going to wait for a few more people to post, but seeing as that is not happening I really need to move this forward.))

Tezuka drew back at the sound of his Captain's voice, eyes still on the spot where the man had turned to dust before finally peeling them and himself way to trot over to Fefnir in a quickened pace. "What the ******** was that, sir?!" Tezuka asked in a confused, but alert tone. "Never seen somethin' that, I dunno, odd, I guess would be the right word." His hands then took their perspective spots on his body, his left sitting against his hip as his right came up to scratch the back of his head as he eyed Fefnir and then the ground. "Spooked the s**t outta' ta' say the least..."

((A'ight kiddies. Bit overdue here, but I've been reaaally busy with school this week. I have a joint presentation on tuesday. Blech.))

When everything comes crashing down..

As the last specs of Bikou's existence faded out on the wind, and the hilltop once again faded into the still silence that once pervaded everything in sight, a single mournful toll sounded out across the landscape, long and drolling, echoing on the wind like the reverberation of a giant brass bell. For a brief moment, it seemed as if it was over, completely, and fully over. Bikou was gone, and the tall man with him. True, they had both left a large scar on the landscape in the form of a black seal, and yes, they had sealed a shinigami within that scar. But what was one shinigami in the long run? If a war had broken out, more lives than just one would probably have been lost, and having one person lose their powers, perhaps not even permanently, would not be the end of anyone's world.
All such musings were cut short abruptly, as one of the inky masses of shadow began to move. It was a strange movement, not unlike the movement of a serpent or a cloud, which is a rather odd combination. The mass undulated and expanded, merging with the other masses of shadows until the entirety of the inky liquid had formed into a single black sphere that hovered over the center pillar, humming lightly in the moonlight.
Just as quickly as it had formed, the sphere fell, splashing onto the seal with a loud splat, and reshaping itself into a pool of inky blackness, which still swirled and danced about as if it were boiling.
It was then that perhaps the most disturbing thing of all happened. elongated shapes, each about the same size and general mass of a full grown man, or woman, depending on which way you looked at them. Each shape stepped out of the pool, and walked very slowly, faces turned forward, to each of the thirteen outer pillars. Once all thirteen of those shapes had stopped moving, two others stepped out of the blackness, and placed their inky hands on the center pillar. At once, the pool vanished, slipping away into nothingness with a light 'pop', which was followed by a static pulse of sound, which echoed out from each of the thirteen figures, and from the fourteenth, but not the fifteenth.
And now, instead of fourteen shadow figures standing before the gathered crowd, those looking on would be staring into the faces of the thirteen captains of the Gotei. Except these captains were different somehow. Their faces were pale, like hewn marble, and their eyes were black as darkest midnight. No matter the garb of the true captains, each of their counterparts wore black robes, smooth and flowing, with a long haori made entirely of shadows.
Above each of those captains, a disc of black energy formed, which let out a long pealing howl, like the sound of wind moving through a canyon. As the final disc formed, four of the captains sprang to life, turning their jet-black eyes towards Soul Society, and vanishing, along with their discs, in a flash of black light. At least, three of them did.
The shadow versions of Yamoto, Michiko, and Bullene all vanished, with light traces of shadowy reiatsu pinpointing them towards their designated squads. But the shadow version of Fefnir remained, stoic and almost unmoving, with his black eyes piercing the dim light, staring straight into the eyes of his counterpart. Slowly, his right arm raised, pointing a pale finger at the red captain.
"You will die now, red-captain. You and all your friends." With a burst of rolling shadows, the black-tinged Fefnir roared to life, pushing off the ground with his left foot, and launching himself in the air, moving towards Fefnir's location with a look of stoic resolution on his pale face.

...And the shadow's roar to life

Maikeru's subconcious adjusted enough to the latent reiatsu in the air to allow him to wake up, if not stand up. His eyes flashed open and he took in the situation. Doppelgangers eh? This should be interesting. With that he focused on breathing, observing the battle, and lieing down on the ground as effectively as possible.

Big Brother is watching you.

Ryan wondered how the hell any arrancar ever thought they could get away with, well...anything. At least here. It was as if they thought he was blind and stupid -- the mere presence of such reiatsu had set alarms screaming up and down in the Sandtable, and it didn't take too much effort to look at the screens and see what obviously were meant to be clones of some sort -- black clones, at that.

Then there was the matter of preparation. Spending as much time as he had thinking up defense systems, contingencies, escape plans, attack plans and the like, he had of course accounted for the possibility of some sort of "Dark Ryan" or "Dark Fefnir" or "Dark" version of any other officer. It was thus that on the appearance of "Dark Fefnir", Ryan had picked up his pistol and gone into one of the many closets around the Sandtable to get at one of his contingency plans.

Or, in this case, contingency weapon. It didn't take much to think of something that a clone wouldn't have, especially when he'd started delving into video games as a method of exploring possibilities that he hadn't thought of. In this case, it was a challenge that looked harder than it really was -- an opponent with the same equipment as you only better strength, reaction time, et cetera...really no different from a video game situation where you have to fight an AI-controlled version of yourself with inhuman intellectual and reflexive capability.

Ryan walked slowly, keeping the clone between him and Fefnir. He didn't need his position given away. Not now. Three steps, two...close enough. His sword was away, his pistol was holstered and his rifle was safe in his office. All that was in his hands was a hammer.

A big hammer.

A very big hammer.

No...a megaton hammer.

As Ryan raised it high, a film quote he'd noticed during his long hours of research came to mind, and as he brought the hammer back down he uttered his first words to anyone in what must have been nearly a month:

"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

Mmkay, I'm tired of waiting for this thing to flesh out, and so I am moving it in a different direction, one which will not require me to wait on people. (Not saying that those who were supposed to help didn't because of bad reasons, just that I want to make it so that I don't have to rely on them). IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PM ME. DO NOT POST THEM IN OOC HERE.

As the new captain arrived on the scene, the dark version of the red captain looked at him quizzically. He seemed to hold an arrogance of sorts, one that was not appreciated, but hardly relevant to the creature's ambitions. His entire being screamed with a single thought, a single purpose. Kill the red captain.
He had been created as a doppleganger, yes, but it was not something that was as simple as that. His existence was real, his purpose was absolute, and his power was greater than any of those before him. As the new captain produced a hammer, he was tempted to disembowel him. Surprisingly, he did not. He merely dodged, and continued walking towards the red captain, a determined look on his face and his eyes shining with brilliant determination. He would kill the man, and once he did his power level would be secured, and he would replace him. That was the plan, for all of them. All thirteen shadows would rise up, and kill their counterparts, finalizing their power and securing total control of the entire Gotei for their beloved master. As the Dark Captain moved, he could feel that dark purpose, and his vicious power, rising. Now was the time, now was the moment, and now was the last breath that the red captain would take.
Entering into True Shukuchi, the shadow decided to finish it swiftly. He could feel the thirteen others at his back leave, and knew that they would soon defeat their others, and then return to the hill. If he had not been so intent on his purpose, he would haven noticed that something was.. not right.
Roaring, he blasted forward, moving at a speed that was greater than any in the Gotei save the man before him, his blade extended to stab into the flesh. But he was robbed of that moment, robbed of the precious release and glorious victory. For as the blade moved forward, presumably into the man's flesh, it vanished. How could it be vanishing? Each section of the blade turned to dust as it neared the man, until it was not the weapon that was disintegrating, but also the dark captain holding it. In terror, the beast turned its head, screaming and reaching out for the seal behind him. It was then that he saw the truth.
The power that created him was no longer. The seal was gone, and the pillars were breaking into fragments. The thirteen shadows that he thought were traveling, were turning to dust where they stood, until only his head remained, and only for a fraction of a second, just long enough for him to speak a single word.
"Impossible."
-----
Behind the spot where the vanished captain once stood, the seal was swirling in a maelstrom of shadows, vanishing and turning into dust and nothing, reabsorbing itself into the portal above the central pillar, and howling with intense pain.
Although it was impossible for anyone gathered to realize, the truth of the matter was that the seal, along with the beings who resided within it, were destroyed due to a lack of a creator. The power that had created them was gone, entirely gone, and thus they were unable to continue existing. Their purpose had vanished, as well as what had once been sustaining them.
In a flash of brilliant black, the scene ended, calming into an eerie silence broken only by the sound of a child crying. But where was it coming from? If one had searched the area nearby, they would not be able to find the source, for the source lay in the center of the hill, covered in a pile of white ash that concealed him completely. As the wind once again returned to the darkened place, the ash was removed, and the boy's form could be seen in its entirety.
He was small, but not overly so, probably around the average size and age of a normal fourteen year-old boy, who was not destined to be overly tall. He presumably (it was rather hard to tell while he was laying on the ground) stood at five foot two, and had stark white hair, with eyes to match. His lips were thin, but smooth, bearing with them a haunting child-like beauty which seemed entirely out of place. His form was covered in a slim, although loose-fitting, black suit, with a white undershirt and a skinny tie, once again adding to the assumption that he seemed out of place, and in his right hand, he clutched a white zanpakutou.
Despite everything that seemed wrong about him, the boy had a distinct feel to him, a feeling that could not be denied and would not change no matter who the person observing him was, or how powerful they were. There was no mistaking it, he was a shinigami. But how did he arrive there, and what was his purpose? where did he come from, and why had he appeared now? was it something to do with the destruction of the portal? had he been pulled from the future or past? It was impossible to know the answers to any of these questions, but they were sure to appear in the days to come. After all, how often does a child appear out of nowhere, clutching a zanpakutou and bearing a reiatsu signature that placed him at least on par with a vice captain? The situation would no doubt require some looking into.
