I've been thinking; there are other weakness chains aside from Fire/Water/Grass. Why not use them?
What are some combinations you'd like to see? Personally, I would like to see Ice/Ground/Fire.

That would be really cool, actually~
Problem is, though, psychic moves don't work at all on dark types. They'd have to change that.

They'd just have to make sure the psychic-type starter had moves other than just psychic-type ones, and probably Miracle Eye, which negates that immunity.

What about Electric/Ground/Ice or perhaps (and I know it sounds weird) all three being Normal Types and each of the three have a different secondary type?

Electric/Water/Ground would make sense too, but again Electric-type moves can't touch Ground-type Pokemon...
Though I do like the idea of the three Normal-types with secondary typings, I think it would also be neat if the three starters were neither strong, nor weak to one another.

I was thinking psychic/dark/fighting, too. Again, you just have to make sure the psychic type has more than just psychic moves, or at least give it Miracle Eye.
If in doubt it can always evolve into a part bug or part fighting type...? There hasn't been a psychic/bug type as far as I'm aware - the closest they've come to that is Butterfree, but that's still bug/flying - so that typing would be interesting to see. =3
