I think it varies from base to base. I know on bases that have training (BCT or AIT) the civilian workers and even a lot of the soldiers (even ones that don't work with the soldiers in training) are a lot more rude and impatient than other bases. I'm a Chaplain's Assistant, and even I was treated like dirt by a Chaplain on the last post (which was a training post. Hopefully I won't get stationed at one again) but now that I'm at a different duty station, I can see how different people really act. I've talked to former Battles, that have also been sent to training bases, and they've told me similar things about how they're treated by the civilians and soldiers. On those training bases, I think the people (especially civilians) should at LEAST treat the soldiers that aren't in training better. I also think that some of the wives (not all, don't go getting angry at me) that have officer husbands (or even 1SGs or CSMs) need to stop trying to wear their husband's rank and treating enlisted soldiers like scum.
I don't want to start arguments, but that's how I perceive things. Maybe I'm just oversensitive.
