I think it varies from base to base. I know on bases that have training (BCT or AIT) the civilian workers and even a lot of the soldiers (even ones that don't work with the soldiers in training) are a lot more rude and impatient than other bases. I'm a Chaplain's Assistant, and even I was treated like dirt by a Chaplain on the last post (which was a training post. Hopefully I won't get stationed at one again) but now that I'm at a different duty station, I can see how different people really act. I've talked to former Battles, that have also been sent to training bases, and they've told me similar things about how they're treated by the civilians and soldiers. On those training bases, I think the people (especially civilians) should at LEAST treat the soldiers that aren't in training better. I also think that some of the wives (not all, don't go getting angry at me) that have officer husbands (or even 1SGs or CSMs) need to stop trying to wear their husband's rank and treating enlisted soldiers like scum.

I don't want to start arguments, but that's how I perceive things. Maybe I'm just oversensitive.

i agree with you on some points....it all depends on where you are put to how people will treat you. allot of the civilians where i was treated didn't treat any of the training soldiers with any respect even though it was given in turn to them at times. I guess what people really look for are the ranks. I think that only cetain people choose to be that way though.

Of course they choose to be that way. But if you're hanging out with people who treat others that way, you're liable to pick up those traits, whether consciously or not. It just frustrates me more than anything. We took initiative to fight to protect them, and they can't even give us the common courtesy we deserve. It shouldn't matter what rank we have, as long as we have the same "U.S. ARMY" over our hearts that their spouses have. Unless they actually hold some rank, and have reason to use it against us, they don't have much of a right to treat us horribly when we aren't doing anything wrong.

Sweet, opinion time. Ive been in the Army for 6 years and deployed twice. I hate civilians, alot of people say ah you hate civilians but before you got in you was one. ******** NO i was not ever a civilian. I was born into this job, Civilians steal, murder, lie and cheat. True soldiers are loyal to their dieing breath, even if they was so broke that they couldnt afford to ride a bus they wouldnt steal from you. if you needed their shirt off their back youd have it. Id surrender both of my nuts to any guy in my platoon if they for some ungodly reason needed them. In Iraq the men of my whole platoon has shown their valor and i would willingly die for them. Ask any guy you work with as a civilian if he'd lay down his life for you and see what his answer is.
