Gabriel whimpered softly, clinging to his brother's arm as though his life depended on it, tears prickling at the edges of his deep red eyes. The little wings atop his head were tilted back, along with those pointed ears of his, and he was hunched over, terrified of the steadily approaching night, the setting sun which cast long shadows across the city streets. If there was one thing that Gabriel didn't like, genuinely just did. not. like, it was city streets at night, especially without Fifth.

"Damien..." he whined quietly, eyes scanning for suspicious people or other kinds of bad guys. "Whewe awe we...? Awe we wost...?" he asked, whimpering softly as the wings on his head flapped a bit, worried and concerned. He jumped as someone hurried past them on the sidewalk, clinging tightly to his brother as a dry sob broke from his throat and he shook gently. "'Amie, I wan'na go home!!"

For once, Damien was quite calm, while Gabriel was the one freaking out. He brushed his brother's arm gently with his claws as he wandered, trying to remember exactly how he had led his brother here. If the Pride spawn hadn't insisted on following him, he would have continued weaving throughout the city without a second thought. He enjoyed all the secret places he could find, especially the ones that didn't seem to mind him being there. It was nice and peaceful for the hyper-critical spawn, especially at night.

However, right now he had a mission to get his brother home. He'd done a bad thing by leading him here without thinking about his feelings, so now it was his job to get him back to Daddy. He shushed Gabriel out of the corner of his mouth as he eyed a street sign, not being able to read it but recognizing the shape of the letters. "Gabby, hushie! Imma tryin' to gets us home..."

As he murmured that, a very powerful twinge of guilt ran through Damien. He was the reason that Gabriel was so scared... Snarling to himself quietly, he dug his nails into his leg. Stupid him, stupid him.

A young woman was out for a walk this evening, thinking very much of visiting a few of her loved ones at the Seven of Seven labs before heading home if it was still open. However, in the dying light she saw something a bit more concerning - two toddlers, one of which looking very distraught, all by themselves.

"Hey, are you two lost?" she asked gently, approaching the boys slowly and crouching down beside them. She wasn't the figure of intimidation, particularly at night - a young woman with purple skin, short pink hair, and large white wings, wearing a simple white dress. More like a rape victim waiting to happen if it were anyone but Ebby.

The female was, bar none, the most comforting sight that Gabriel had seen in his entire life, even moreso than his Daddy had been when he'd come to take them away from all of the science-y people. Gasping happily, he let go of his brother and quickly ran over to the girl, hugging onto her desperately instead of the one who'd gotten them lost int he first place. Now, not to place blame or anything, but it had been Damien who'd run off again, and kept running off all the time. All Gabriel had been trying to do was protect his brother and look what it had gotten him!!

"MmHmm!! We'we weawwy wost!!" Gabriel whimpered, snuggling against the female and hoping that she was going to take them to a cozy home somewhere and feed them things. Or even just take them back to their home; that was fine, too.

Damien was equally happy to see the purple lady, although he didn't show it with as much exuberance as his brother. He blinked when he was released, horrified to find a part of him hating the fact that Gabriel had chosen to cling to this newcomer instead. He quickly drew a claw across his skin for thinking so highly of himself, then walked up to the woman, head bowed.

"Mm-hmm... 'S my fawlt," he said, raising his hand. He didn't want this woman to think that his silly brother had gotten them lost, though that probably sounded like something Gabriel would do.

"Aww, it's okay honey." Ebby whispered, hugging Gabriel a bit and holding an arm out for Damien.

"Do you two know where you live? I can try to take you home." she offered, petting the boy's hair a bit. In the dim light, she couldn't quite see all of their features, but they did look a tad familiar. She'd seen enough Sevens kids in her time to at least be able to pick them out a bit.

Gabriel happily -well, as happily as he could- clung to the woman who was so kind as to stop and help the two lonely streetrats back to their rat's nest. I mean, home. Then again, Gabriel was sure that there was no way that anyone with eyes or a soul would have been able to pass by the likes of him and his brother and not feel some kind of sympathy, and not stop and help them find their way back to the community home of his father's.

When that home was brought up again, only more tears gathered in his eyes and he sobbed quietly to himself, rubbing his balled-up fists across his face to wipe away the tears. "I-I dun'no whewe home is..." he sniffled sadly, cuddling against Ebony as best as he could. "But the wights wewe on when we weft..." he added, before bursting into tears once again, afraid that he was never going to see any of his extended family again.

Damien refrained from holding onto the woman's arm, afraid of making it bad. He did, however, take a step closer, which was saying something for the bad-tempered toddler. Trying to ignore Gabriel's unhelpful sniffling, he shook his head. "I gotted us good'n'losted, so home's pwobly vury far 'way." He gestured with a claw down a street, which was incidentally the right direction. "I fink s'dat way, dough. Dough, I'mma dummie, so pwobly wong." He thumped himself on the head none-too-gently, looking at the woman with serious eyes. He hoped that she could get them home; he didn't want to hear Gabriel crying all night. Oh, and uh, he wanted to go home too.

Ebony stood, holding Gabriel at her side and bouncing him a little to keep the tot calm. She carefully took Damien's hand and smiled down at him, her wings spreading a little to lightly wrap around the two in a protective gesture. "We'll go look that way then. And if we don't find your home, I'll take you to my home for a bit and call around to see if we can find where your home is from there."

Her voice was tender and gentle, trying to keep the little ones calm as she walked down the street they'd come from. "If you see your house, just tell me, okay?"

Gabriel, affectionate little critter that he was, didn't hesitate to cuddle against Ebony's side, sniffling and crying quietly over the fact of how lost he and his brother were. At least, he knew he was lost. Damien always came home, though, so he supposed that Damien actually knew where to go. When the wings were wrapped around the both of them, Gabriel's eyes went a bit wide, looking up at the large, white appendages in awe. His Daddy was the only person that he knew well who had wings like this, and even though Fifth's were bigger, the woman's were much prettier, all white and clean.

At the idea of going to someone else's home, even for the night, Gabriel's ears perked up. If they couldn't find the apartment, or even pretended that they couldn't, they would be able to stay in someone else's nice, warm house for the night. He was sure that either he or Damien would be able to recognize the apartment in the middle of the day - that would be no problem at all. He nodded a little bit to the entire idea, taking hold of one of the purple-skinned female's hands, following along quietly and looking at the sillouettes of all the dark buildings. Actually, he was almost positive that he wouldn't know which was theirs, even if they had gone the right way.

Damien was also intrigued by the idea of staying at this clean-looking woman's house, as it stood to reason that her house would be clean too. Maybe even as good as Cat's house. He flinched lightly when she took his hand, but as long as he didn't hold back, he decided he could deal with it. After all, this could be his chance to help Gabriel stay in a really nice house, at least for one night. He was not going to screw it up.

On that note, it was with a start that he realized that some of the buildings were starting to look familiar. Curse his good directions, the purple lady was starting to take them home! He quickly glanced at Gabriel, but as far as he could tell, his brother continued to not notice. Maybe this could still work. He bit into his lip briefly to pay for the lie he was about to tell, and then sighed theatrically. "I dun'no, puwple lady. None a' de buildin's are lookin' family-er. 'N-'Nd it's gettin' late, mebbe we should just go tah youw house. It-It'll be easiew to find our house in de day, anyways..." He trailed off, trying to watch the lady's reaction as subtely as possible. This was the first really big lie he had ever told, and he would hate to think of what would happen if he got caught.

Ebony glanced down at the boys and around at the buildings. She really had no way of knowing which house was theirs except their directions so when Damien mentioned he didn't think so, she started to suspect she really would just have to take them home. The boy's stutter, however, did make her wonder very much if he were completely telling the truth - but if he had reason to lie, maybe it was best not to ask and just play along.

After a bit, she nodded. "All right, I guess we really can't find our way just now. We can go back to my home and we'll try again tomorrow. If we can't find your home that way, I'll take you to the facility and ask for your address - it'd be closed by now so that's no good." the female explained.

(XD I guess they're going to her place. If you guys wanna rp that out, I'm down.)

Damien could have collapsed in relief - and weariness, but that was beside the current point - when the purple lady believed his lie and decided to take them to her house. He hadn't thought that he had sounded so believable, but he certainly wasn't going to complain. Her house would probably be warm and clean and smell good and have good food and comfortable beds, which were all things that Gabriel deserved after being dragged around the city by his idiot, self-centered brother. And maybe, since he had lied so well to get Gabriel those things, Damien deserved some of them too.

He nodded wisely at the woman's words, pleased that things were going the way he had hoped. "Dat sounds like a good 'dea, puwple lady. I c'n prolly find our house t'morrow." As Damien allowed the two of them to be escorted to the woman's house, he hesitantly asked another question. "So... Is youw house fawr? 'Cause- 'Cause I know Gabby's feets 're prolly weal, weal tiwred from getting losted. Mine, too," he added as an afterthought. This question had two purposes: one was obvious and lay in the question itself, as it was very true that the twins had been walking for a very long time. But Damien was also asking to see if the lady lived close to where they did. He didn't want to chance being seen by her later and being called a liar for not going home right away like a good boy. It was also equally bad if another gang member saw them, as they would promptly be taken home. A nervous sigh passed through Damien's lips. Lying was hard work; no wonder he never liked doing it.
