I'm having this weird sensitivity by my ribs in my midsection...kind of maybe my kidney area according to a diagram I just looked at. could that be the result of not eating much? I've been having maybe one meal every day for less than a week now. I just haven't really been hungry and I feel disgusting when I eat food. sweatdrop but I've been losing weight really fast, which I like. it's not like my BMI has significantly dropped or anything.

but it feels weird and it's freaking me out.

We can't say for sure what it is. But yes, you could be feeling some discomfort or cramping if you're not eating enough. And one meal a day is certainly not enough.

You might be losing weight, but that doesn't mean you're losing it in a healthy way, that you're getting all the nutrients that you need, or that you'll keep the weight off.

In fact, if you want to lose weight, stay healthy, and keep the weight off, you should actually be eating five or six small meals a day.

If you only eat one meal, your body says, "Wow, I'm not getting much food. Food must be scarce. I better conserve." Your metabolism slows down. Your body burns less fat. You might lose weight, but a lot of it will be water weight. In other words, you're probably not losing fat. You're probably just dehydrated because a lot of our fluids actually come from our food. That's a mistake that most women make when they diet, and it could explain why you're losing a lot of weight without noticing much of a difference in your BMI. Your body will even sometimes go so far as to slowly eat your internal organs in an effort to make your fat last longer. And that means that by eating one meal a day you could be doing permanent damage to your body, you're likely to gain back any weight you lost once you start eating normally again, and you're not likely to lose a lot of fat.

If you eat five or six small healthy meals a day, on the other hand, your body says, "Wow, food must not be scarce. I guess I can go ahead and burn all the fat I want." Your metabolism will actually speed up, making you burn fat. You'll stay hydrated, which means any weight you lose will be fat, not water. And that also means you'll be more likely to keep the weight off and not have any adverse health effects.

So eat small meals often. Drink plenty of fluids. Make sure you're eating healthy foods. Get plenty of fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains. Avoid or cut down on meat (especially red meat), dairy, and sugar. Check nutrition labels. Avoid or cut down on foods that are high in saturated fat or cholesterol.

Not just that either, if your body needs something it can take it from your bones. And as far as stores go it's actually your muscles that get used first before the fat.

Ugh...just ate my second meal for the day and I feel like I'm going to throw it up. D: It's my health class that's kind of been getting me. For weeks on end, we've been charting out calories, talking about how awful body fat is, watching people stuff themselves with food them vomit it up, talking about how many calories are in everything we eat...it's driving me up the wall. I was maintaining a good weight before this, but I just can't do it anymore. O____O it's killing any body image I had.

thanks for the advice, I guess. I'm gonna try. sweatdrop

I just start munching on baby carrots. I'm still skinny as heck and rarely have to worry about what I eat though. sweatdrop

Yeah, just munch on fruits and vegetables. They're good for you, low in fat, in low in calories. So they're nothing to be afraid of. 3nodding
