I was curious if steampunk would make decent Renaissance fair outfit theme.

They're not really in the same time period, but I don't see why not.

I think I've seen crossovers. So it's been done but it's not exactly accurate.
( for the other way around the rules can be bent a little. During the Victorian Era there was a movement that sort of fought the exaggerated body modifying corseting by calling for a return to more medieval inspired clothes)
I'd sugest you be very picky about what you use if you do that.

From the view of a time shaman and time traveler, its put to a few words "Time Traveling Aethercraft."

I've seen people do, and it was a sucess

Last year at MIRF there were quite a few steampunker's over the course of the season. Most of them pulled it off very well, and had very interesting alter egos and stories.

I wouldn't exactly call having fairy wings or having a dragon figure on your shoulder accurate either, but to each their own.

Besides, I don't think dressing up for such an event is about accuracy, it's about having fun.

Actually, that can depend. Silly example, but take the Warcraft universe. Steam powered and clockwork machinery in a medieval fantasy styled world.

I suppose it can depend on how you do it.
