Here I'll be presenting my theory about advanced thoughtforms, only in the case at hand, these thoughtforms will be entities that one is able to summon and work with.
Thoughforms are defined as I know it, as a focused idea or thought- which is created on the mental plane, following the course of manifestation: it manifests on the astral plane and then, physical. Now, I was reading not long ago about thoughtforms, and how they can (like Egregores) take on a life of their own. This is how some smaller covens and groups who can't decide on a particular deity proceed to create one. They come together as a group, create an idea of the deity, it's name, appearance, powers, weapons, etc. And they all add their mental and astral power- to create the entity in question. This theory runs along the same line- but unconsciously.
Art, the medium of creation, one of the most godly skills a person can learn to do- in my opinion at least- and is a key part of this theory, when an artist creates a character, they give it a life- they think about every aspect of the character, and as an occultist would mold their energy to create their Egregore a form, the artist molds their medium to create their Thoughtform. Thus the thoughtform is created, over time- as more and more people see this piece of art, they too become acquainted with the character, perhaps adding their own takes on it's personality or the circumstances surrounding it. Thus, the thoughtform is reinforced by their thoughts and emotions. Soon- all these different ideas and concepts about the character come together and an advanced thoughtform is created. Inadvertently albeit.
Same process applies to the Old Ones of the Necronomicon and the other writings of Howard Philips Lovecraft. Through time they have become advanced thoughtforms.
If you're asking yourself either of these two questions: "What IS an advanced thoughtform exactly though?" or "But how does this advanced thoughtform of yours take on a life of it's own? Let alone manifest on the astral plane as a REAL entity..."
the answer to the first is this: An advanced thoughtform is basically like an Egregore, created by a slightly modified system. So I gave it a different name to avoid confusion. The next answer is, through due process. The act of creating the entity by the artist, forms the basic image and ideas, and because it is created in a physical way, the energy does not dissipate but is in fact focused through that media. The other people (viewers) add the smaller specifics and mental energy, etc. so on and so forth until the energy is so lively, it has to manifest. Same way a normal Egregore would be created only without a "set" purpose, it goes to whatever role was made for it. In the case of the Old Ones, it becomes a god (Or faux-deity, if you prefer).
Now, these ideas can be applied to many things, for instance a fantasy world, can be accessed through astral projection (I've done it, and known one or two people who have) or to a card game, say you take a Wirewood Savage Magic: The Gathering card, through a certain process; you can make an astral window into the setting and world the card represents, and in doing so. Summon the entity in the card! Now, these methods DO have pitfalls, for instance. I wouldn't recommend trying to go to the "world" of a show with an unstable storyline, or certain other dangers, unless perhaps you confined the projection to that certain episode- but as I've NOT tried that, I cannot recommend it one way or the other. The implications of that universe's laws of reality may also come into effect. Then again, this whole side note is purely unpracticed theory. If any of you decide to attempt this sort of planar travel, I would highly appreciate posting your results here. [:
