Kearith hadn't long returned to her home to mate after traveling for a short while with Chronos to retrieve his family from the dissolving pack that he had once called his home. With his family safe in their lands and with a den of their own Kear had settled back into her usual routines of hunting, marking the boundaries and watching for others. It was consuming much of her time, something to get the thought of a litter of her own off her mind. It still tweak at her from time to time, but keeping busy took her mind off of the reoccurring failures. As Gaara had said, they would come when the time was right and she believed him.
Across the river on her little look out point Kear sat scenting the winds, smelling the the few wolves that now inhabited her beloved home. But they were still a very small pack, two families joined together for safety, for some sort of numbers where her and Gaara were the guiding forces to keep things going. Her auburn pelt soaked up the bright sunlight making the large female pant too cool herself and she debated moving down to the river to soak her fur through with the cool water that ran through, still flowing strong with snow melt from the mountains due north. Shaking herself out and bristling her heated fur she sighed and rolled over onto her back in the cool grass, it felt soothing to her heated pelt, her paws akimbo in the air, tongue lolling from her maw, but her golden eyes were still transfixed on the world around her, searching, watching, waiting.
Damn him. Thats the only thought that seemed to plague her. DAMN HIM. Though he wasn't the only one to blame. Could she expect him to have stayed? No.. She supposed she likely should have expected this all to happen. It had played out JUST as she had supposed it would..But she had prayed she was wrong.
The ashened pelted wolf walked through the forest, belly now heavy with pup. She was due soon, and Sia had demanded she find a pack to raise them until his return..And she would wait day in and out for his return. She swore it.
The sunlight warmed her, and she became rather warm, and began panting. Her markings did seem to glow in the sun, but she preferred the night travel when she traveled with more weight in tow.
The blood had rushed to the she wolfs head making her feel dizzy, rolling back onto her belly she laid there licking her paws, continuing to pant to release the heat from her. Down passed where the hill leveled out to flat land again the trees rose up thicker, giving cool shade. Just inside that tree line was the boundary marker to the territory. She could see a good ways into the trees, enough to see if there was another. With the blink of her eye movement was spotted, something small, a pup?
Immediately on her feet Kear shot down the hillside, eye never leaving the small white mass, as she grew in better sight and the scent hit her it was nothing more than a hare, a fat pale brown hare, unable to control herself, Kearith hunkered down low, her mouth beginning to salivate and with another deep breath she was off after the hare, her paw steps heavy and thundering on the ground. it didn't take her long and a short chase before the hare was caught in her mouth, the spine snapped, it's little black eyes still wide with fear that would never leave it's face.
Feeling triumph Kear made her way to the end of the trees to enjoy the shade and her catch. She's save some of it for the others, if she could help herself.
She hadnt been expecting to detour from her mission..But something hit her nose, and she began sniffing the air, pausing in midstep. She felt her belly rumble, and she cursed herself for the lives within her..They ate so much, what they were doing to her figure was horrendous! She licked her lips, her own jaws salivating, before pawing in the direction of the kill.
It was fresh, so she was wary, making sure it wasnt something like a bear or wolf that had made the claim. If it was a lynx, you could be sure she would try to take it.
She lowered her body a little, to hide in the shadows, though she knew full well she was too large to hunt. The other wolf pawing at the dead rabbit made her sigh. So much for a quick easy meal.
Though, this wolf smelled of pack. She lowered her head, and realized she had wandered onto anothers territory..
Maybe she had walked right into her new lands that she would call home..Or maybe she'd be forced to keep walking.
Just as Kear cracked into the back legs of the rabbit, enjoying all to much the crunch of the bones beneath her strong jaws. But as the bloodlust left her and the world around her came back into sense and smell she could smell something out, something that made her drop the hare in an instant. It was another female for sure. Standing up and looking about with her bright eyes she turned about towards the woods, at first nothing was visible to her eyes.
There before her stood another female, swollen stomach and all, she had to have been carrying a litter, the poor thing and she was looking at the hare. Kear looked down to the hare. She had eaten already today, she didn't need it. Nudging it forward with her nose she stepped back. "Hello...if you would like the hare you can have it." she said. Sure it seemed odd and she knew it. What wolf would just give up a meal without even talking first or knowing the other. But their pack was still small and with her and Gaara having no luck with a litter she felt for the swollen female. Was she alone though?
She looked at the hare, but backed away in caution when the other made eye contact with her. She hadnt hoped to be noticed, though she guessed in a way she did.. She walked closer, eyeing the rabbit, before looking at the other she-wolf. She was obviously sizing her up, to make sure it wasnt some clever trap to kill the female for stepping close to her meal.
"I..I wouldnt want to take it." She felt like a beggar, and she sighed, looking back to the rabbit though. She knew she wanted it..She wanted it bad. Stepping Closer, she looked at the female one more time.
"Thats very kind for a stranger." She replied, raising an eyebrow.
"What caused you to be so kind?"
A smile spread over Kear's maw and she shook her head and sat back on her haunches. "Need I have a reason for given to those who could use something more than myself?" she asked, closing her eyes as she smiled wider. There was a bit of jealousy the pulled at Kear's heart as she saw finally the full form of the other. So heavy with pups, her beautiful markings stretched out making her look even more like she was set aflame. At the same time, it seemed more and more like the female was alone, a pregnant female with no mate by her side...saddening really. It made her even more grateful she had Gaara.
"Eat." she said tilting her head. Many questions popped into her mind as she watched the female, she wanted to burst out with them, but at the same wanted to let the other eat. She didn't want to appear rude after just handing over a meal. Licking her and pondering for a few moment she finally broke and opened her maw. "You're not alone are you? If you need a place to stay...please we can accommodate you." she wanted to chew her tail off right then for being so blunt.
Hadyn didnt need to be told twice, and she leaned over and pulled the rabbit to her, lowering to her belly. She began tearing at the flesh, letting it slide down her throat eagerly. It had been a while since she had a meal, and her stomach ached with happiness. She was lucky she found this female..Who knew if the pups would survive too much longer without a meal from their mother.
"Its not common, is all. Though its appreciated." She humbled, nodding before tearing another bite. She gave a smile, a more..trusting smile as she looked back up at the other.
She was offering her a home.. Or at least a place to stay. She knew this was meant to be..It had to be. She nodded, tearing some more at the bone and flesh of the rabbit.
Soon the rabbit was torn to pieces, and she was licking the pieces off the earth. She stood after, a smile on her maw as she licked her lips clean of the blood.
"I am alone..Yes. But he will find me..Once theyre older." She smiled with the hope. But she knew it was all a game, and he may never return to her..But he had promised.
"My name is Hadyn..What can I call you?
She nodded, kindness was often far and few between in the world that they lived in, but they was part of why their pack had been created, to give a home, a place of sanctuary and comfort for wolves who had been through hardships, or those who were just looking for a place to fit in no matter their rank, age or situation. She watched the female tears apart the rabbit, glad she had willingly given it over before she had gotten any further than chewing the back legs.
"I see, a strange ordeal if I may say but if it is what decision was made I can respect such a thing." she said, it was a strange circumstance, to leave a female and return when the pups were older. But she knew nothing of the reasons why they had gone their own ways and she needn't pry into the others personal life in the least. "Kearith, but you can call me Kear" she chuckled, giving a tooth grin ad wagging her tail heavily, thumping the ground. "it is a pleasure to meet you Hadyn."
"Its best they likely dont know him. He doesnt want to corrupt them, and I can understand." Though she said it, she hated him for leavnig..Though it wasnt a hate that was serious, more pain at not having him near her just now.
She had to be strong, because she was raising these pups whether she liked it or not. They were special to her, and she felt herself bond to them already..They were all that mattered lately.
"Its a honor Kear." She nodded in greeting. She had found somewhere to be safe for now. Her pups would be strong..Her pups would be happy..and she wouldnt be alone.
Giving a slight whine, she didn't really understand, corrupting pups? What kind of father would do such a thing, maybe it really was better he was away for a good while. "Goodness, he must be...different.." she said unable to think of another word that could describe the unknown male, though in no way did she mean to offend Hadyn.
A smile spreading over her maw she got to her feet again. "Hadyn, if you would like I can show you to the river, and then someplace to rest. You look as though he haven't had a proper sleep in a while." she said wagging her tail and lowering her head. They still had so many empty dens. One filled with her and Gaara, another his sister and her mate and then Chronos and his family, but so many others laid waiting to be occupied, and Kearith was more than happy to fill these dens.
Across the river on her little look out point Kear sat scenting the winds, smelling the the few wolves that now inhabited her beloved home.
