Easter Fools Entry!
Austin and Nicole stood on the sidewalk surrounding the park. The Curio Shop, where they had originated, was hosting an Easter egg hunt. The park was decorated with table cloths over the picnic tables, a brightly colored banner, and other Easter like decorations. Austin’s eyes gleamed as he looked for the table set-up with the empty baskets; Nicole just felt nauseas. Austin ran into the park, joining the crowd of other Curios looking for the plastic eggs. Nicole sighed, twirling her hair and standing at the sidewalk as long as she could until someone called her over. Like she expected, an eager Curio who was overly hyped about finding useless junk in eggs waved to her and motioned to the basket table. Nicole trudged over, hutching in depression.
[Later]
The day had gone pretty well for Nicole. She had found about 8 eggs in the past half hour and was bending down to pick up another one. After she retrieved the egg and dropped it into her woven basket, she scanned the park for others. Austin hadn’t re-appeared in awhile, not that she cared. Nicole imagined the trouble he was having trying to pick up eggs. She laughed at the thought, spotting another egg. Maybe today wasn’t to horribly bad. At least that demon child wasn’t bothering her.
Just as Nicole had predicted, Austin was having a terrible time trying to pick up eggs. It’s not that he couldn’t find them, he could see almost every one of them in their hiding spaces, it was that he couldn’t keep his grip on them long enough to place them in the basket. His blade like hands offered no help in gripping an egg, each time he attempted to pinch the egg with their tips it would jolt and slip back into the grass again. After many tries and an awkward position, Austin was finally able to place his first egg in the basket. Feeling victorious, he decided he should treat himself to the prize inside as a reward. Austin sent one of his blades down onto the plastic egg, cracking it open to reveal the present and an unknown surprise.
Nicole was sitting on a bench, having gotten tired of bending down over and over again. Her basket was to her left, filled with brightly colored eggs and fake plastic grass. She whipped her forehead, shaking off a few beads of sweat caused by the heat. She blamed her armor; it was like sitting in an oven. Watching the sky, she noticed the sun was getting low. Austin should have been done by now. As if her thoughts had conjured him up, she spotted the boy running towards her from the other side of the park.
“Speak of the devil…” Nicole murmured. She smiled and waved to him, making sure he knew where her position was. Oddly, it didn’t seem as if the boy was slowing down. He was in a full sprint, coming right at her. Nicole’s smile ceased. She jumped off the bench, calling out to Austin.
“Slow down or change directions, you’re going to run right into me nitwit!” He didn’t stop, continuing his course towards her. She swore she thought she heard him let out a growl. In an instant, the boy was on top of her, having pounced when she was panicking to move away. Austin clung to Nicole’s body, rubbing his head against her rigid armor. He didn’t seem to notice that the edges were digging into his face.
“What are you doing? Get off me!” Nicole was used to Austin “hugging” her, but not full blown tackles. The nudging wasn’t helping either. All of a sudden, Austin let out in a babyish voice
“Mommy!~” Nicole noticed a half of one of the plastic eggs pierced on his blade arms. Whatever was going on, it was probably the eggs fault.
