It was a lazy day for Aceth, her rider spending the afternoon in lessons. Aceth didn't like lazy. What am I to do all day, if you are going to be gone?

Most dragons would take the opportunity to sun on the beach, or sleep all day. S'ril was working hard at paying attention to his instructor, but found it difficult with Aceth constantly asking him questions or asking to play games.

I don't want to laze about. That is for other dragons to do.

There's nothing I can do for you. Go down to the beach for the afternoon and get some sun. I'll meet you down there once I'm finished and scrub you, then oil you. Sound good? Even though Aceth never seemed to relax, she did enjoy being pampered. Hopefully it would be incentive enough that she would leave him to focus on his lessons today.

There was a long pause in conversation, then S'ril felt a heavy sigh. Yes. A scrubbing sounds nice...

It was lucky that the barracks were at ground level - or really, just good planning - so Aceth could easily make her way from where she had awoken to the beach, trundling along at a good pace, burning some of her stock energy. The beach was littered with snoozing, sunning dragons, and she took her place among them on a not-so-crowded stretch of sand. The sun was out and it was certainly warmer than it had been, and she had to admit that it did feel nice to get some sun on her back occasionally It was just the laying and doing nothing part that she disliked.

It wasn't as though Kanaleth was demanding, because the gold certainly wasn't but she was...was, Andere couldn't exactly put her finger on an appropriate adjective for the young Queen. She was something, all right. Her curiosity and friendliness had no bounds, it seemed, and her energy was more than enough to sustain dragon and rider both through lessons. Andere settled for nothing less than excellence, after all, and Kanaleth was more than happy to oblige her rider. Sometimes, however, a dragon happened to know what was best for both.

Mine, Kanaleth began, gazing up at the redhead, the weather is nice, and there are a lot of dragons down at the beach. Would you like to head down?

Andere chuckled, reaching down to stroke the gold's neck. Do you mean you would like to go down? If you want to head out to the lake, I would be happy to accompany you. I miss being out on the ocean. The lake is not the same, but. Andere shrugged. It will do.

Kanaleth snorted softly, nudging Andere's leg before she set out. You will see, the gold advised, tail swinging side to side. High Reaches is the very best place. The Queen left no room to argue, not that her rider felt particularly inclined do such, but it was the principal of the thing.

As they arrived, Andere turned to her dragon. "What would you like me to-"

But Kanaleth was already bounding off, trotting with a purpose as she weaved her way through the older dragons. Aceth! Aceth, hello! What a pleasant surprise!

Aceth's head popped up as she heard Kanaleth's greeting, and her head swiveled, searching for her golden friend. Kanaleth! You are here! Hello! She was glad to suddenly have company, already bored by her sunning. Her eyes whirled blue green as her queen approached. I'm so happy to see you! It is boring here alone.

She was standing now and prancing around in place, kicking up sand in the process. It was lucky that she had moved clear of the older dragons and their riders - surely they wouldn't be pleased to have sand kicked on them while they napped.

Upon watching Aceth's little dance of glee, Kanaleth could not help but begin to frolic as well. Andere had to step back, narrowly avoiding the Queen's tail as it swung back and forth more like a club than as an extension to her body. The gold didn't even notice, instead breaking into a trot to join the green in her prancing, more than happy to partake in the outside festivities.

Andere sighed and shook her head. Oiling could wait until later; they'd not known each other long, but the young woman liked to think she knew the gold well enough to realize Kanaleth would much rather spend time with company than on her own.

Crooning loudly, Kanaleth head-bumped Aceth playfully. The Queen was not gentle in her behavior, but there was clearly no ill will behind it either. It was as though she still hadn't quite learned the strength behind her larger size and she expected the green to be equally capable. Oh, I'm glad to see you too, Aceth! Mine was bringing me down for an oil, but I think this will be more fun; everything is more fun with friends! Kanaleth finally stopped her prancing and gazed around before he gaze finally settled back upon her clutchmate. What are we doing, anyways?

Aceth was startled by the bump, and stumbled slightly - the gold was clearly larger than she. She showed nothing but glee as she recovered though, and returned the gesture with her side.

Mine sent me here to sun and relax while he is in lessons about flying a fighting dragon. She sounded quite unamused by this. I did not want to, but he said he needs to pay attention to his instructor. So I am very bored.

She stopped prancing now, and looked over the beach at the lazing dragons and their riders. I do not know how they can just lie there for so long. There are so many things to be doing!

Please be careful, Kanaleth. You're much larger than your friend, you don't want to hurt her, Andere scolded her gold gently, watching from a perch the young dragonrider had chosen once her gold had galloped off to cavort alongside Aceth. The navigator was sure Kanaleth meant no harm, but the sooner she realized quite how large she was, the better. Andere was getting tired of apologizing to every person Kanaleth barreled over in her excitement.

Kanaleth, for her part, skidded to a halt when her rider spoke to her, pausing to glance sideways at the green. I see. I will endeavor to be more careful, the Queen replied promptly, her tail wagging from side to side.

Andere raised both eyebrows, fixing dark eyes on her dragon. Where, she inquired, unable to keep the mixture of impressed and curious of her face, did you pick up such an extensive vocabulary? She was well-taught by her parents, but even the navigator never used words quite like 'endeavor'.

The dragon rumbled, spreading her pale gold wings as she shook her body much like a wet animal. Don't you worry about it, Mine, Kanaleth replied with what Andere could have sworn was a wink. Turning back to Aceth, she warbled and began to head for the lake. Well, we will just find something to do, she announced, hesitating as she turned back towards her friend, If that is alright with you, that is. I would like to swim. Do you like swimming? I have never been swimming before, but I know I like it. Mine likes the water.

Kanaleth pranced in place, tossing her head like an impatient runnerbeast as she waited for her friend to make her decision. If Aceth did not want to swim, the gold would not make her. There were plenty of other things to do.

Oh! Maybe you should ask Yours to visit with Mine. Oh, but you said he was busy? Should Mine be busy, as well? Lessons did sound important, after all.

Aceth's eyes whirled with excitement at the prospect as swimming. When she and Hers had gone swimming in the past, he had greatly enjoyed it, especially because it always meant that after she would get a good scrubbing with sand from the bottom of the lake, then she would be oiled. I love to swim! It was all but a shout, and she was already racing to the lake, making sure not to step on any snoozing riders, and greeting any dragons she passed who were not asleep as well.

He is learning about fighting dragons, she said, her voice beaming with pride. She was not meaning to brag, she was just happy to be called more than a dragonet. I think it is important? I was see if he will be done soon!

Mine! Are you nearly finished? Kanaleth and Hers are with me!

S'ril felt her strong excitement, and couldn't help but smile. The silence had been lonesome, though he had been able to concentrate better for that amount of time. I'll be there soon, he replied, losing focus on his notes immediately We're nearly finished, yes.

Aceth was nearly bursting with excitement. He'll be done soon, he says! Then he will join us.

What good news! Kanaleth crowed, quickly relaying the message to her rider. Andere, for her part, had sprawled herself against a rock, happy to absorb the sunlight while the gold amused herself. The Queen was a sensible dragon, for the most part. Though they hadn't known each other long (from Andere's point of view, as it were, Kanaleth had known her rider her whole life), she knew enough about the rowdy dragon to know that she could trust her to behave.

And, though overly enthusiastic, she was a good dragon. It was with much job that Kanaleth took off after Aceth, bounding in leaps and strides as she quickly overtook the green and crashed into the water, warbling her sheer delight as she ducked her head underneath. She surfaced a moment later and flared her wings, eyes whirling a bright blue as she glanced around for her clutchmate. We should play a game! Would you like to play a game with me?

Aceth hit the water only a few beats after her companion, and stayed slightly closer to land where she could still feel the sand beneath her claws - she was much smaller than the gold. Of course! she responded enthusiastically, shaking her head to push water away from her eyes, which whirled. What should we play?

I'll be there soon, we were just dismissed. S'ril's voice pierced Aceth's mind, and her whole body seemed to stop as she received his words, then began to move about even more energetically.

Mine is on his way! He's coming!
