After meeting and getting to know her new mate, they had set off towards the mountains to find somewhere to settle. She was still unsure of what he expected from her--be it to bare children, make a pack, settle down. She wasn't usually one to settle anywhere for too terribly long, but if he wanted to have pups then...he wasn't sure what she'd do about that. Her last litter had been difficult enough to deal with, god forbid they had a large litter and didn't have somewhere to settle.
Releasing quiet breaths as they trotted at a decent speed through the underbrush, she kept her head down and her tail flicking about in an almost irritated manner.
But it was then that she caught scent of something--it stopped her right in her tracks, almost making her stumble over herself as her eyes widened.
No--couldn't be. A crooked grin crossed her lips and she lifted her head up high, still not reaching over Akinobu at all..but still, it was a sign that she had found something. Licking her lips, she looked over to her mate and smirked, "My brother," she cooed, almost cruelly, "He's still alive."

It had been almost a rash decision to devote himself to the often easily agitated femme. But he had fallen for her nonetheless, odd a couple they may have formed but an interesting and caring one. Though care was sparingly given, Kirai at least didn't look at him as though he were any different than her. He was still working to crack the hard exterior of the persona she held, to dig down deeper to the softer, gentler side of Kirai that he knew laid deep within, even though it seemed no one had pulled it out of her yet.
he held no true expectation of a family with her, rather than a devoted lover, someone who cared for him and saw him no differently other than that he was special to them emotionally. When Kirai stopped in from of him he stopped as well scenting the ground as well, he could smell others, one other and one scent that was faint of another male, but the first was stronger than the others.
He hadn't really known she'd had a brother, and his pale eyes blinked at his mate whom he cared for quite a bit. "Your brother?" he asked, had she suspected him dead? Apparently so otherwise she wouldn't have spoken as she did. The wicked grin over her maw made him raise a brow. Kirai had strange ways of showing excitement and happiness, but he understood them at least, likely like no other would be able to. He could see past that rough exterior, the one he would break with time. "Should we go say hello?" he asked looking up ahead, he saw nothing in particular but the area was marked, marked like pack lands.

She had wanted him dead for a while. They had been raised differently with the humans, she had been higher than him while he was treated quite badly. Huffing at the dirt a bit, she lifted her head and made her way into the marked lands, despite what her actual instincts said. Those instincts were pointless, just because it was marked didn't mean that she couldn't trot up onto it. Might not get a warm welcome, but...
She didn't care.
"Gaara, he's my younger brother. I think he deserves more than a hello..." Kirai muttered, looking back to him with her bright eyes, "Ready?" She cooed, knowing he understood her--which surprised her, but she didn't say anything of it most of the time. And Akinobu got more tenderness out of her than all the other wolves she had ever run into. Licking her lips, she broke into a trot towards her brother's scent, head low and tail high. Time to play.
Gaara had taken to marking and running the perimeter that his mate had daily. Usually he was in charge of other things, such as different sides of the territory along with finding game and such. He stuck close to the dens most of the time due to his untrusting nature...but now Kearith was gone, retrieving Chronos' family and bringing them here safely.
But that left the nasty-tempered male to deal with any intruders..which he now scented, and they were coming fast.
It was almost too late when he noticed who exactly it was, seeing a smaller wolf rushing him and all but mauling him, snarling and pushing him off of his feet. The blue male had barely crossed his mind when Kirai's gnashing teeth aimed for his throat, his large form shifting and tossing the light female off of him with a low snarl of his own.
With his teeth bared and fur bristling, he stared down his...sister, who was laughing after landing gracefully on her feet, now bristling and staring him down as well. "..what the hell--" Gaara looked up to Akinobu, growling a bit towards the seemingly docile male, before focusing back on his sister. "What are you doing here?" He didn't hate Kirai..far from it. They were siblings, but they'd never gotten along. Kirai was the one who thought she was better than him, stronger...but maybe now was the chance to prove otherwise.
Which--it had, almost. He had taken her blow without a scratch, possibly a bruise...and thrown her away easily. He'd grown, it was insane...and her tiny form was dwarfed compared to his. But she felt little threat by him, besides the way he held himself...Alpha.

Aki had started off merely trotting after Kirai, wondering what had occurred between the two. Kirai had a strange sense of humor even to him, but he wasn't bothered by it any. but he truly questioned Kirai sometimes, she could be so rough, but that gentle side of her certainly was something he had grown so damn fond of.
Once she had reached the massive Alpha and struck at him, he nearly leapt forward when she was thrown back but landed cat-like and grinned. She was alright, an odd 'hello' even for Kirai's standards. For the life of him though he could see absolutely no resemblance between the two of them. From Kirai's blue and reddish browns he was nothing more than a large mass of dark browns and slight light browns and the odd black markings that covered him, almost like the strange black markings he had once seen covering a few two-leggers arms.
He didn't dare open his mouth when Gaara asked why they were there, though he had a feeling the question was more aimed toward her rather than him. He lowered her head, he had always known he was large for a wolf but this wolf made him feel small and made Kirai look almost like a pup.

Kirai had always been pretty nasty towards Gaara. She wasn't afraid of him, far from it in fact, even if he was much larger than her at this point. Licking her maw, she stepped forward, beginning to pace, almost nervously, from one side of the male to the other. She brushed past Akinobu as she went, fur bristling and head high.
"That's not a friendly greeting, Gaara, love," she cooed, voice obviously tinged with excitement and amusement, "I see you've claimed a territory of your own...how rude, not letting me know of such a thing," both Kirai and her brother knew that they hadn't spoken since he was a pup and she was a teen. But she didn't care, teasing him and seeing that irritation in his eyes growing...but she could tell he was more curious as to why she was even there.
"I'm passing through," she glanced back at her mate, then back to Gaara, "We're looking for a place to settle for a while. I never dreamed of running into you again...but, you know, family..."
He snorted at her hints at wanting to stay--but then he remembered...Kearith really wanted a pack. His sister was a pain in the damn a**, but...she was strong. And this male...he had to be strong, for Kirai to travel with him. She never let anyone hold her back, let along a 3 legged wolf that couldn't hunt or run...which means he had coped nicely to his disability.
Opening and closing his mouth a few times, he wrinkled his nose and gave a false-rush forward, merely taking a step, his hackles raising and eyes narrowed.
"You're being the rude one," he grumbled, eyeing Akinobu a moment later, "..I'm Gaara, Kirai's..younger brother," if he hadn't figured that out just yet, "How in god's name do you even deal with her?" This got a snort from his sister, then a chuckle.

Giving a low growl at Kirai as she minced her words with Gaara, he knew as well as Gaara did what she was getting at. She never really liked to just come out and say what she want to, she always had to play with her words, but as long as he understood all was fine between them.
He still retained his silence in words towards either of them, that was until Gaara rushed at them. Though it was false, it was still an advance and Aki met the challenge in an instant. He pushed forward, raising his own hackles, teeth bared and standing almost over Kirai, his pale eyes making him look almost mad. Disability had never held him back and even though Gaara was a good margin larger than him, he would protect Kirai to the death.
He relaxed though as Gaara grumbled at him. In a way Gaara's questions did make him think, wondering why he felt for the smart-mouthed femme, but he did, there was no real explanation. He nodded to Gaara and gave a slight bow, in a hopeful apology for rushing to defense. "I am Akinobu." he said simply and sitting back on his haunches, flamed tail curling around his stump of a half a leg. "It is a matter of acceptance and appreciation of who she is. And once you dig out the softer side there is much to love." he sneezed in laughter, giving a wink to Kirai.

Narrowing his eyes at Akinobu, he growled lowly and kept his eyes on the male. He was more of a match for him...but he doubted that the male would really want to fight. Kirai was more of the type to do that.
When the male calmed and introduced himself, he snorted and tossed his head, eyeing Kirai wearily. Taking another step forward, he held his head and tail high. "These are my lands, Kirai," he began, slowly and soothingly, "If I am to accept you into these lands...temporary or for the rest of your damned life...then you will accept me as your alpha, and treat me as such." It had never been this situation. She was always higher than him, stronger than him...now, he was happy to see the positions swapped.
Scoffing at her mate, she glared at him a bit, though did feel safer with him backing her up. However, when Gaara had charged, she hadn't moved a muscle...merely stood her ground and stared at her brother.
Gaara had been a weak-minded pup, and had been easily manipulated. What had changed him so?
"Alpha," she yipped in laughter, tossing her own head but lowering her hackles and allowing her body to relax. "Then we....will be your betas. You might be above me, but I will be above everyone else."

He watched with intent, but also listening closely to Kirai. Oh how she could be so vile at times he almost wanted to snap at her to show respect, but the femme held not an ounce of fear in her bones and he knew it. He wondered if it would be the death of her... or even him one day. But it wasn't proper to think of such things, especially about his mate.
They had an odd relationship, he'd admit it openly, but as Kirai demanded that they be Betas to his Alpha he turned his head to her and bowed his head, he had to speak again, even if Kirai would glare at him. "I assure you Gaara, we will be able to pull our own weight. I am aware I may not seem as though I would be much of an asset with my disabilities, but I can do near anything any other beta can do, even more so." he said proudly holding up his head. He was tough and he knew it and even if she would have to n** at Kirai's heels all day and get her mad at him, then it would be worth it.
One thing Akinobu could not stand for was laziness, he could easily have stayed with his parents and survived with them and their small pack family, but he had struck out on his own, taking care of himself though in the past his ego had gotten the better of him, he wouldn't let it happen again, he had sworn upon it.

Snorting a bit at his sister's remarks, he eyed Akinobu when he spoke--oh, he trusted the male fully. He seemed calm, collected, well aware of what he was able to do and not do...
Kirai, on the other hand, didn't. She was cocky, feisty, and usually jumped into a gung-ho situation that put everyone in danger. Scowling, he eyed her once more, before looking back to her mate, speaking to him as if Kirai was just a child, and was to be ignored for now.
"...I will agree to a trial for you two to be beta," he eyed Kirai, "But the second you go too far, you will be dropped from your ranking. This is only because you kept me alive as a pup," he breathed, then slowly turned, motioning with his head where the dens were. "..you respect myself and my mate, and acknowledge that the other wolves here are part of the pack, and you will be fine."
Scoffing at her mate, she kept quiet...he could get them in perfectly fine. And she was far from lazy, after raising six pup of her own she found most daily activities to be dead-easy, even if it was a lot of work for one wolf to do.
But with her mate, she would have no problems.
"Fine," she all but spat, slowly stepping away from her mate and after her brother. However, she did turn herself around slightly to give him a light lick on the muzzle--cracking through that cruel exterior, but only when her brother wasn't watching.
Padding after him, she planned on getting a good den--comfy for just the two of them. And far away from her brother.
