The dark form lounged under an old scraggly fir, perched on a large uplifted root. Surveying the territory around her, she was pleased.
All was well with her domain. The sounds of crackling leaves and footsteps drew her orange gaze...
"...nuh uh, raspberries are waaay better!" One of the approaching boys said as he came in earshot, to the other boy he casually walked next to.
Them again?? They better have completed their missions!"No way, those little white mush-" The other boy was cut short.
"HEY! YOU BOYS! Did you scout the perimter??" Mapes demanded, standing up, still on her root perch slightly above the lazy good for nothin males. "I said you can't come back less you made sure the territory is safe! You have to patrol, those are the rules."
That was simple enough right?"We don't have to do what you say Mapes!" The first said, puffing his chest a bit. The other boy nervously eyed the black and white female.
"I'm in charge 'round here, that makes ME the boss!" Mapes loudly retorted, leaning forward a bit menacingly. The smaller of the boys backed up a step.
They just never listened! They must have twigs for brains! "How many times I have to tell you, you are gonna be the scouts today??"
Both boys eyed her, remembering earlier fits. "We always have to be scouts. I don't wanna play with you!" The first boy said defiantly, still standing his ground but becoming unsure.
Mapes bristled, narrowing her eyes. Already bigger than the boys, she puffed up and took a step forward, looming over them and trying to be as formidable as possible.
"Fine, but now this is MY territory. I banish you BOTH!" She yelled, and leaped at the boys with teeth bared and claws swiping.
"RAWR~!!"Startled, both boys scrambled back, then turned tail and loped off the way they had come, grumbling.
"HAH!" Smirking, Mapes watched after them, thinking quite proudly that she had shown them who was boss around here. They better just remember that too!
Next time they might get a paw to the face! Darn boys!
