Character Name: Tiepet
Age: 15 Turns
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: Unofficial Beastcraft Apprentice ( subcraft - Herder ) / Candidate

History: When animals came to the Weyr and the riders were in need of people to step up and manage their herds, Teipet's family moved in. Eager to help create a wonderful stock of herd beasts and wherries for the dragons to eat from, the family's back line knowledge of animals through the generations served them well and allowed them to produce a decent stock of beasts. While they weren't top of the line or the best around they certainly made the grade and flourished at Malvren.

Tiepet was born to average fanfare, her parents fairly glad to have another hand about to help with the herds. Her family may not have been the only ones caring for the prey animals but they certainly weren't about to turn away any additional services. Raised quickly and quietly in the ways of herding animals the young girl's first education consisted of very little time around other children and a good deal of time around smelly animals. For a while her communication skills were limited to the point her parents thought her mute ( or deaf, the shame! ) but it turned out she didn't have much to say, instead being content to listen to others and keep an eye out on the animals she was meant to be watching. Her parents, much relieved, stopped pestering her about talking and left her to her own agenda this leaving her to socialize with the animals more than children her own age. This caused her to further develop slowly in communication and social skills to the point where she could be considered stunted but not incapable.

In an effort to promote more interactions with members of the Weyr that weren't directly related to her or her craft, Tiepet was posed to stand as a Candidate. While her parents could not force her into standing, it ultimately being her choice, the thirteen-turn old girl realized she'd have to grow up eventually and would need to have some contacts other than ovines and wherries. She accepted the offer and moved out of her family home and into the Candidate barracks shortly after her thirteenth turn day of naming, and she has stayed in them since. While still awkward towards others she at least doesn't try to leave the barracks and go home every night, now sleeping in one spot.

Description: Tiepet almost always smells faintly of animals (or their dung), the essence of a beastcrafter clinging to her like a fine layer of film. She also looks slightly dirty about the ears or her hands as if she missed a spot while cleaning, though it doesn't make her appear ragged or disgusting. When not smelling like a herd of animals she occasionally smells like wild grasses or sunshine, scents she (and most others) much prefers. Her skin is often hued red with sunburns during the summer or paler than a sheet during the winter months, her overall skin tone dependent on the amount of time she spends outdoors. During the winter time she often takes on the appearance of an ill person, with dark circles mottling her usually chipper face.

Not too tall and not too short, Tiepet's got good length arms and legs that stand firm and strong, allowing her to work hard at her craft and chores. Muscular, but not to the point of definition, Tiepet is well toned and looks good for someone of her weight and height. She is not overly thin like a rake though her general frame is lithe and somewhat whipish. She has long thin fingers, though two of them on her left hand are bent rather funny as a result of breaking them in her youth and not setting them properly.

Blessed (or cursed) with blond hair in a family of people with darker shades of brown or black Tiepet is easy to pick out amongst the crowds and the herds, her hair a shade that resembles pretty yellow flowers. Due in part to her time out in the sun her hair only seems to be getting lighter or taking on more natural highlights, the color in the summer months nearly moving towards the platinum end of the spectrum. She wears her hair up off her neck in a tight twist or braid if it has grown too long in the winter, though in the summer times she tries to have hair no longer than just below her chin (and it gets pulled back as well). Thankfully her eyes are a darker shade of blue like that of her cousins and her mother, allowing her some connection into the family. She also inherited her lovely family line of freckles, her shoulders and face decorated with them vivid during the summer but rather absent in the colder months.

Reaching the age of fifteen her body has started to mature nicely. Small breasts and a heart-shaped face are her more defined features, her nose placed neatly on her face and her eyes set at a decent space. While it doesn't look like she may develop into a more buxom woman over time (her mother and other relatives are generally small as well) she certainly is developing along at a good rate though is expected to stop entirely before she hits her eighteenth turn. To anyone who doesn't really mind girls that aren't strikingly beautiful she could be considered rather pretty if they can get past the smell and the dirt.

Usually attired in clothing that can easily be shed should it become soiled or torn, Tiepet is quite fond of outfits that do not have sleeves. Preferring to wear clothing that is loose but not loose enough to interfere with her work, she picks tunics over blouses for practicality's sake and breeches over skirts. Her breeches are usually modified to be loose on her legs and go no further than her knees, allowing fresh air on her legs and about her ankles. She seldom wears shoes if she can get away with it, the bottoms of her feet rough and calloused from years of running around barefoot as a brat, though if she is required to have footwear she sticks to riding boots or any form of shoe that is lightweight and can stand up to abuse.

Personality: A girl of very few words, it's sometimes hard to tell what Teipet is thinking. . . if she's thinking of anything at all. Thankfully, for those who don't know her well enough to understand that she's merely listening contentedly, she has a very 'vocal' face, her expressions revealing more about her than any simple phrases ever could. It is almost impossible for her to lie about what she's feeling unless she's focused very hard on deceiving whomever is before her, but thanks to a foolish and honest nature people need not worry about her trying to tell them something that isn't true. It'd take a good while for her to even think of a lie worth telling.

Following along with being of few words Tiepet can easily be mistaken as someone who is quite aloof or overly arrogant to anyone unprepared. In reality she is more or less extremely socially awkward towards most people that aren't her family or fellow herders, a majority of her life spent growing up amongst relatives and the other herding families. While initially she may be rather uneasy starting conversations with strangers she does not go out of her way to avoid them (now that she's older anyway) and she can and will speak to anyone who approaches her. More often then not she acts rather antsy, like she has a different place to be instead of there, and her nervous fidgeting can be translated to a need to get away. Most of the time conversations leave her flustered and feeling mildly disappointed with herself for being unable to properly communicate though recently she has begun to show signs of stepping up and interacting more. When topics turn towards herdbeasts or animals in general her whole demenior changes and her partner will quickly find themselves with a willing and charming conversationalist. It should be noted that when asked about animals in a more professional tone, or when on an errand to deliver a message in regards to said animals, her nervousness disappears. She believes that in order to be taken seriously as a crafter and as a herder she must be understood when she is trying to deliver information, though how she acts during her personal life is quite a bit different.

Occasionally seeming quite carefree and easily swayed to different whims without a focus, Teipet actually is a girl with strong determination and dedication. Often keeping it silent as to not broadcast to others what she wishes to get done or achieve, she works hard enough to get it done quickly and precise enough to get it done correctly. The type to depend less on others than a person would like to believe, Tiepet is often under the assumption that if she wants something done fast and efficiently it'd be better to do it on her own then ask for help. This has backfired on her in more then one instance and while she shows promise that she's trying to learn it's unlikely she'll change any time soon. Still, there's something good to be said about a person with a healthy work ethic and a desire to get things done so they can move along to something else.

One of Teipet's more dire bad habits is her inability (or unwillingness) to look before she leaps into a situation. A girl who would jump both feet first into a river to test the depths of the waters, her over eagerness to butt into certain cases can leave her with a bad taste in her mouth as well as a temporary bruised ego ( or bum, depending on the outcome ). While she certainly doesn't feel like she has to always be right and is more than willing to admit that she was wrong when everything is all over, she can show a streak of stubbornness in insisting that while her way or idea may not have been the right one, it was a pretty good choice.

Other: Her beastcrafting rank is unofficial as she has never traveled to a Crafthall to be specifically trained and sanctioned. While that does not mean she is poor at taking care of the animals or a super prodigy, she is more than capable of caring for a flock without the aid of others. Most of her knowledge comes from her family and their turns spent raising and caring for all these beasts, so while she may not know all the technical terms for what she's doing, she can handle the basics.

Tiepet would have an IC male ovine that she takes specific care of. It's basically a sheep she's had since it was born about five turns ago and its used as one of the main breeders for food at the Weyr. Whether or not this ovine gets eaten later on is up for debate ( and a fun RP! ). If this is not allowed, the ovine will simply be another in the herd and nothing more.
