Saw something weird last night, around twelve. I was washing my hands from using the bathroom and I felt like somebody was staring at the back of my head, so I looked up in the mirror.
We have a small bookcase, about waist high, caddycorner to my bathroom door, and crouching behind the bookcase was something that looked like it came out of the Grudge movie.
Straight black hair, insane pale skin, huge eyes, black or dark brown, with dark rings around them.
Any idea what, or who, it was and how I can get it out of my house?

Hmm... I'm no expert, but if it IS similar to Kayako from the Grudge then maybe that's how you get rid of it? The same way they did on the Grudge? Check to see if any girls/women have been murdered in your area or even your house. If you see it again then try to ask it questions (the usual "who are you and what do you want" will do) but be very careful. If this is a ghost with a grudge then it might not take kindly to being approached.
PS: I said the same way they did on the grudge, but I'd take that with a pinch of salt. They performed a kind of Shinto ritual used by Itako from Japan but that might not work or even be possible for your little ghoulie.
(Again, I say I'm not an expert and my ramblings are not to be taken as an insult to anyone. I'm 15 and have only theories)

The chick from the Grudge was based on onryo, which are spirits of vengeance from Japanese folklore. As far as I know, the stories that feature them don't end terrifically well, being that they're angry ghosts and all that; nonetheless, leaping to the conclusion that what you've got is an onryo would be a little hasty of us - pretty much, you've described A Dishevelled Looking Person, which could be any number of things.
Incidentally, I don't recall there being a ritual in the Grudge - all I remember is Buffy burning the house down. Are you talking about Ju-On/Ju-On: The Grudge?
Has it appeared since last week? Have you tried contacting it?

Yeah, it's popped up in my room. I've tried talking to the thing, but it seems kinda scared of me. Won't let me get close. Like, whenever I know it's watching and look up at it, it tries to duck down behind whatever it can.

Have you tried contacting it? you have a point there, but yes there is a ritual. it's in the third one. Spoiler: Kayako's sister performs it to get rid of her but ends up getting killed in the process:Spoiler EDIT: Another thing. If you see it again and it shys away, but is still there, try comforting it, saying things like "I won't hurt you" in a soft voice might calm it down. You could even offer it something like a piece of food or a treat. Does it appear female? I'd assume that a female spector of sorts would be quite shy in general, but more around men. At the same time if 'she' keeps coming back then she's still curious and may eventually be brave enough to say something (if that's possible at all).

I'm not sure what it could be but until you can work out what it is and what it wants I wouldn't let your guard down around it.

I'm thinking that if it's afraid of YOU, then it probably isn't very harmful... But I don't really know. Just don't treat it any differently than a normal ghostie. The Grudge was a horror movie, not at all realistic, as far as I know. So don't base anything off of that.
