The Pokemon region introduced in Gold, Silver, and Crystal and has recently reappeared in HeartGold, and SoulSilver. Johto is a very historically rich region containing several different landmarks including the towers of Ecruteak City . Trainers from Johto usually start with Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile, but recently have been given the option to start with Mareep, Larvitar, and Togepi.
