Having cleaned his plate, Soril looked around, wondering if dessert had been served yet. When the drudges came about taking away many empty plates, refilling jugs with fresh, hot klah, and with wine flasks in hand, he assumed no. Ah, we weren't too late then it seems!
"That seems like a good idea," he said, leaning on his elbow, chin perched in his hand, waiting for the drudges to come around with platter heavily laden with fresh pastries. "Even though, once Impressed, you wouldn't be working as a craftsman anymore, you could care for your own leathers, and make them, too." It seemed like a handy second skill to have, alongside being a rider. Even though most riders did care for their own riding straps and such, if they broke or needed replacing, it was a task that needed to be hired out.
Finally, one of the drudges made it to the tables full of Candidates, and Soril plucked a few pastries from his platter as he passed, dropping all but one on his plate, the remaining being half devoured in a single bite.

"Oh, I suppose that's true. But wouldn't it be easier if there was a tanner here to make the things dragonriders needed? I'd realize I'd have to fight thread and all if I Impressed, but it isn't all fighting. I could do leathers on the side." Julian seems hopeful. If only there was a way to combine the two!
The scent of sweets completely grabs Julian's attention as the platter comes by. He snags as many as quickly as he can. His love of sweets was bound to get him into trouble here too. Oh well, live a little and pastries don't last long! Slowly he savors his treats, hopes high.

Soril shrugged, finishing off the one pastry and moving on to his next. "I don't know, really... I came in a Healer, so it was easy to practice my craft here. And Dragonhealing, well... What better place to learn it than in a Weyr? It's definitely something to ask about, though." He leaned on his hand, finishing off his last pastry in one bite. "But who knows, after Standing a first time, you might not have any desire to leave the Weyr. That's what happened to me." Suddenly, Soril heard someone calling his name. He looked up to see a rider calling to him - she had a firelizard cradled in her arms and was looking quite panicked.
"Oh," he said with a heavy sigh. "It looks like duty calls... Though between you and me, I don't really specialize in firelizards... Even if they are the original ancestors of dragons." He stood and stepped over the bench, taking his leather supplies case from the bench with him as he did. "Sorry to leave you hanging like this. If you just follow some of these guys when they leave, they'll probably lead you to the Candidate barracks. Someone might be down there - a supervisor or something. Otherwise, there should be empty beds." He walked around the table, grabbing another pastry from a passing drudge not far away. "I'll see you 'round!" Then he was across the hall, trying to calm the worried firelizard owner.

Julian was stumped. Standing once could change your mind about staying at the Weyr? Well maybe. He gives Soril a lopsided grin, "Yeah I can see where having dragons around to learn dragonhealing is a plus."
He gives a sympathetic chuckle. "Your a healer though, so go heal. It's alright, I'll be fine. You've answered a lot of my questions though you didn't know me. If ever you need help come find me." He nods and waves a quick good bye before turning his attention to a loaded sweets tray coming his way.
