After she had run away from the land she once knew, she secluded herself in darkness and allowed nothing to reach her. She lived to hunt and hunted to live. Onikisu would not allow herself to remember the past and therefore she forgot most of it. She knew she had a sister and of course parents. She had long forgotten what her parents looked like but could not erase the memory of her sister. It had been a years time since she had gone up to the mountains and found her cave. Out of shear curiosity she found herself walking out of her cave and back down to that place where her memories lie.

Oni glanced back at the cave that she used as her barrier from the world and wondered if she should just go back and stay there. Something compelled her to continue walking forwards. She turned around, fixed her eyes on the bottom of the mountain, and began to trot. There was a memory of some sort pulling her down to that clearing that she knew once. The pendant around her neck gleamed a deep crimson red as it bounced against her chest. Her hooves scraped the ground with each step, her jet black mane, tangled and knotted, flew behind her as she continued her descend.

Crazy as it may have seemed, she had to go back. She had been away for too long and although she could not remember what it was like to be social, deep down in the bottom of her dark heart, she missed them. It was a realization that she had come across early that morning. Onikisu knew what she was doing was wrong. How could they possibly remember her? Had they forgotten her as easily as she had forgotten them? Was the place that she was seeking even still exist?

She hissed at herself, What are you doing Oni? Turn back. You don't need the help of anyone. Why are you searching for something that is not even going to be there?

It was that damned voice again. Her instincts were always getting in the way and trying to tell her what to do. She was fed up with it, she had listened to it for far too long. Onikisu shook her head and forced herself to ignore them.

You are only hurting yourself.... It mocked again.

This time, she had to retaliate, Shut up. I will not allow you guide me anymore. It's your fault I had forgotten everything in the first place. Her pace quickened, she knew not what compelled her to go back to that place, but now she made it her personal goal to oppose the voice's commands. Her trot became a gallop, and her gallop became a run. Her muscles contracted and relaxed with each stride. Boy did she love to run. The wind ran rampant through her mane and tail, knotting them even more so than before.

Junsei.... she thought to herself, Will you even remember me? Do you even remember who I am?

Of course she doesn't! No one remembers you. You are a stranger going back to your old place. Who remembers strangers?

Shut up! Onikisu told the voice inside of her own mind. The word "stranger" still echoed in her mind, however. It is true, she is a stranger to her old home. She could only hope that someone there, someone... anyone... would remember her, if only to make her trip not made in vain.

Black and white hooves, caked in mud, pawed their way over pristine grass as Junsei ate breakfast in a small meadow nestled in the forest. Her ears twitched at the slightest sounds of the nearlby deer herd she could hear behind the lake to her back. She blinked slowly as her eyes flicked around at all of her surroundings, every sense reaching out to the forest. She'd learned after a long time, that if she was going to stay alive, she had to be ahead of the game; know everything that was happening around her and react before it would ever reach her.

Her body showed the age and wear of time. Her once brilliant white coat was tan in its best parts, an inch thick of mud coating others. Her hair was long, but a tangled mess, dirt and debris knotted in its once beautiful tresses. Her dark ears turned forward and she stopped eating she heard a horse approaching her meadow. It's moving slow, not a threat... she thought to herself. She considered staying where she was, but Junsei was not one to make a conversation, and every time she tried just ignoring others when they spoke to her, they considered her insane. I'm not insane... am I? In truth, she had spoken in over a year. Before her twin left her side. She'd only ever spoken just a few short words in her life. Her parents didn't understand, but she wasn't fond of speaking. But her sister could communicate for her, so when she'd been home, everything was fine. Without her sister, she felt as if she were going through the motions but she wasn't doing much living--as if she were running without her back legs.

The vibrations of the earth suddenly became earth-shattering as they crashed through her thoughts. Her feet twitched and she spun around, stretching her legs far out in front of her. Her long strides took her to the lake, causing the herd feeding there to dispurse, running from her own hooves as she was of the unknown threat behind her. Junsei kept along the banks of the lake, her hooves kicking up rocks and sand with every stride. The sounds echoing her own strides faded on and Jun slowed, her ears ticking ack and forth, listening for her possible pursuer. I can't take this running anymore...

Onikisu continued running as fast as she could, she needed to get down there, back where everything she knew was.

You shouldn't be doing this, it's a bad idea.

Shut up. I will do what I please. For the last time, knock it off.

Oni knew not whether she was running towards her old home, or away from the voice in her mind. All she could do was hope that there was someone down there who remembered her, anyone would do. Her strides became longer as the pressure of the ground tensed her muscled. Her breathing ran ragged as the wind ripped into her lungs.

You're only hurting yourself...

She ignored it this time, determined now more than ever to reach her destination. She leaped into the air, her back hooves pressing with all of their might, into the rock. She sprang forward, taking the final leap off of the mountainside.

There should be a clearing right out of these woods.

She ran into the brush and pine and was once again surrounded by darkness. She wouldn't allow that stop her, she had to keep going. Onikisu came this far and she could not bear it to stop now. The branches hung low as she did her best to dodge them. She was not successful. One of the branches flung and hit her in her right eye. Damn it... She felt the warmth trickling down her neck and into her mane.

See, I told you. Now what are you going to do?
I'm going to keep going.
Why do you insist on this? There is no one out there for you. Go back.

She slowed her pace and felt the voice inside of her head chuckle with dark satisfaction. Oni smiled, and walked straight, along the path of familiarity. She came to the end of the woods and stopped. The river, lake, the meadow, everything was all there, the way it was when she left. The memories flooded over her.

Junsei... my sister, what have I done?

Junsei sucked in a breath, and held it, willing her entire being into a motionless state. Only her ears flicked back and forth, listening for movement, and her nostrils flared as she took in every scent that the wind brought her.

Suddenly, she heard whispering. She could her voices, seemingly arguing in the forest. One seemed to be more or less taunting the other, and a sadistic edge cut around the edge of her words. The second voice sounded determined, demanding. That voice... Somehow it sounded so familiar, and yet she couldn't hold still anymore. In a flash, her hooves kicked up dirt and debris of the forest as she ran away from the voice that seemed to permeate into her entire being. Was she being chased? She did feel as if the hooves behind her were persuing, but there was something wrong, she just couldn't find what it was.

She continued running in the forest alongside the lake until the hooves slowed. At the meadow she grew up in. She bared her teeth, a vengeful growl building in the back of her throat. The unnatural sound seemed to frighten most of the forest, chittering more than they usually did. Her eyes were stitched together in a glare as she slowly and quietly approached her meadow, peeking out from the trees, yet she was sure she wouldn't be seen until she was upon this creature. Her eyes popped open in surprise as she realized what it was that was off about those pursuing hooves: while she had thought she'd heard two voices, only one mare was in front of her. Perhaps the other trailed off... good. Now there is no chance for you. she thought scathingly. You stupid infant. Everyone in this forest knows that this place is sacred. Off limits.

Jun looked her opponent up and down. She was a mare just a little bigger than herself, made of black fur, and dirt much like herself. She could take her down in no more than two minutes--and this mare had her back to her. She sprung from the branches, barreling in on the black mare, her teeth baring and hooves trampling. This will be quick.. she thought, grinning.

The words pierced her thoughts like dagger stabbing at a beating heart. The words rang loud in her head and the shear weight of what they meant made her flinch.

Too late... it mocked her even more.

The mare's body slammed into Oni, knocking her, writhing, to the ground. She stood up and reared towards this mare. What is her problem? When her feet landed on the ground, Onikisu could do nothing but stare blankly at this mare, who gave her a look like it was over for her. Onikisu could not tell if the mare had actually spoken to her for she was too busy watching the hooves of this stranger. Oni was tired of being stared at like she had done something wrong.

Oh now you've gone and done it. You pissed her off.

Quiet your thoughts! I am done listening to your snide remarks about everything. Just knock it off.

Onikisu stood quietly and still motionless, sizing up the mare with just the movement of her eyes. Her brows sank to a scowl and she was annoyed with how troublesome this whole ordeal had become. Her mouth dropped open as if words would form, but she had forgotten how to speak.

I'm not from this forest. She wanted to say out loud.

INFANT? Why I outta...

There was something eerie about the way this mare looked at her. Her scowl remained where it was but she lifted her lip in a snarl-ish growl. Oni's eyes were locked on the off-white colored mare that stood before her now.

Let's see whatcha got!

Are you stupid? We couldn't take her. Not in the state we're in now.

You worry too much! Look at her, she's old and worn out. More so than you are.

I don't trust it.

Oni, you are such a weakling. You always have been. How disappointing.

How long had it been? Since he had been here? A year, two? More? The star gilded stallion couldn't remember as she passed through the trees at a slow clip, ears lazed back as his tail flicked behind him. Black eyes gazed over the ground he traveled before he reached what he knew to be his mothers' lands. Ears perching forwards some, something wasn't right here. Striped tail flicking even the more behind him, his pace picked up as something crashed to the ground. This caused the stallion to move faster, breaking small limbs and twigs in his passing, scattering what critters there were into a fray before he cleared the last of the vegetation and into the clear. Two bodies seemed to lay one atop another for a moment before they broke apart, one at one side the other a distance away. He looked from one to the other, they looked like mirror images, only different colors, though not by much.

Walking closer, not wanting to get directly within the center of the two mares, but he was looking for something. "Oni?" He muttered towards them, "Jun?" Gods forgive him as he had forgotten their full names, but greatly remembered the shorter versions when he was a foal. Left alone and cold, now here he was looking at the both of them not knowing what to think. "What happened to you two?"
