Who: Kinsey, Varun, Phiel and Zurine
Where: The Finch Apartment
When: Early evening, Kinsey just having got off shift

Varun still refused to speak with Kinsey. It had been a week since the Supermarket Incident (which led to the Incident At Work, followed by the Incident in the Bathroom), and the Leviathan was making it very clear he wanted nothing to do with his woman (and she was still his, he made that painfully clear as well). As far as the redhead was concerned, she had trapped him, betrayed him, allowed him to lose to another male and this! This was completely unacceptable, and he would not stand for it. Therefore, Kinsey was not graced with his presence, and when he was forced to share the apartment with her, he would not give her the pleasure of his company.

Knocking on Varun's door, Kinsey sighed. "Look, baby, I know you're still angry about that whole...supermarket incident. But Phiel is coming over." She hadn't seen him since the fight with Varun, coming straight home after work to make sure the sea monster hadn't destroyed her apartment in a fit of rage. "And he called and says he's got a surprise, so please just try to make an appearance, okay? It will be good."

Varun poked his head out of his bedroom, the first time Kinsey had seen the Raevan for more than three seconds in the past several days. He was still wearing the tiara.

Kinsey rubbed her face. It was going to be a long evening.

Though Phiel was, if nothing else, a very, very careful driver, Zurine had decided that she Did Not Like riding in the small, economical car. In fact, she huddled in the back seat, arms wrapped around herself and her head lowered, her dark eyes hooded and a firm pout on her face -- she was even keening softly, a faint low mewl of displeasure. The tip of her ribbon twitched in irritation, a soft slow rhythmic motion that spoke of her leashed distaste. "Phiel," murmured the owl frei, poutily, "No. No. This is not good."

For the tenth time since having fastened her in as well as he could before they left, Phiel looked back over his shoulder again at his unhappy charge, and felt a faint frown crease his brow. "I am sorry, Zurine," he apologized again. "Next time we will walk. I did not know you disliked the car so much..." He let out a long, heavy sigh, rubbing his face with one gloved hand. "We are not far from Kinsey's home... ah, and if we are exceedingly lucky, my Zuri, we will be graced by the pleasure of Varun's company as well. He is like you." Well, he amended, not too much like his well-behaved, dignified little charge. At least she had yet to openly defy him, and that was good as far as he was concerned. He refused to believe, however, that he was going to be a soft touch where she was concerned... though, in all truth, it was highly likely.

"Varun? Kinsey? Who are?" asked Zuri quietly, her voice tense and her gaze pinned on her guardian. It had been an eventful few days for her, from meeting Phiel for the first time, to moving to his home (her new territory, she had quickly decided) and discovering the fish, an unending source of entertainment for her. She quite enjoyed watching them scatter, bright fins and scales flashing in the water, when she approached, though she did not at all like the humid warmth that radiated from the wall of tanks.

"Ah... Kinsey is... my... significant other," Phiel murmured, a touch awkwardly. "Varun is her charge... a Raevan like yourself. And he is, well... angry, sometimes. Be careful, all right?" With a turn of the wheel, the bodyguard slowed and nosed the tip of his car into a parking space with impeccable skill, slowing neatly to a stop and unbuckling himself as he turned off the car, stepping out to circle around and unfasten Zurine as well.

"Zurine," she asserted softly as she finally freed herself of the tangling strap, flicking her wings out as if to say that is quite enough of that, "is always careful."

Phiel could not argue with that, and with a low chuckle, he directed both of them toward the apartment. "Yes, indeed, you are," he murmured softly, shivering as he felt one cold, delicate hand settle on his shoulder in a faintly possessive motion. "You are that."

It was a quiet walk (or, in Zuri's case, float) up to the apartment he'd become rather familiar with, and once they where there, Phiel drew a deep breath, and knocked softly at the door, polite and careful.

Varun had been considering forgiving Kinsey for the past day or so. Considering would be putting it very generously, to be honest, but at least the fiery-haired Frei was no longer plotting his guardian's downfall. Of course, the knock on the door could very well change all that. His bright yellow wings flared, the usually orange scales a horrid shade of black, a stark contrast against the membrane. His headfins also flayed, and with a curl of his lips, the ugliest snarl the sea monster could muster was quickly plastered to his pale face. He. Was not. In the mood.

One hand pushing Kinsey aside (and none too gently, we might add), the seasonal Raevan whisked by the young police officer and floated down the hall, his ribbon thrashing as his delicate fingers clenched into fists as he rounded the corner and snarled at the door. How dare someone bother him, least of all Phiel, Phiel who had stolen his Kinsey away from him and turned her traitor! How dare he!?

It was the earth-shattering roar that brought Kinsey sprinting down the hall, just in time to witness Varun rip the front door open. Choking a bit, she barely dodged her wayward door as her mouth fell open. The door came off its hinges. "Oh, oh my god!" she hissed, fumbling around her jeans, only to realize she didn't carry her taser when she was off duty. "Varun! THAT WAS MY DOOR."

Varun, for his part, had frozen when he spied a bright blue female floating alongside Phiel. A Raevan. A female Raevan. When did that happen? Fixing Zurine with a sharp look and a baffled frown, he demanded,

"He is yours?"

The sound of that roar made Zurine jump, and half-hide behind Phiel -- he could hear it from within, but that was a familiar voice. He drew a deep breath, shaking his head, and both of them stepped back from the door.

"Loud," murmured Zurine plaintively, her head lowering slightly and her teeth catching at her lower lip, her black gaze focusing on the door shortly before, well, the door was no longer there to focus on. Instead there stood the infuriated Varun, and no more door, and a woman behind him who looked rather distressed and stunned. This was clearly not a good situation for any of them, was it? She was fairly certain that doors were not supposed to leave their hinges that way, though admittedly, she considered, she had not seen many doors. Still, as she looked up at Phiel's exasperated expression, Zurine did not seem at all impressed by the leviathan Frei's violence or strength.

When Phiel did not seem to have an answer for Varun, bewildered, Zurine tilted her head -- and simply moved forward, floating lightly and lifting her delicate chin in a decidedly proud, elegant motion. "Varun," she said archly, her voice soft and cool and low, "hello. Phiel is..." A faint expression of frustration flickered across her features. She knew the word, didn't she? What was it? Oh! "Guardian," she finished.

"Indeed," said Phiel with a slightly sheepish chuckle, raising one gloved hand to tug at one of his grey curls, a motion of slight nerves as the other arm crossed over his chest. "Kinsey, Varun, meet Zurine..."

This, Varun thought with a certain amount of distaste, certainly threw a wrench into things. As much as the leviathan detested, despised, hated Phiel, there was a female in his presence and she...knew his name? Wait, what? No, no, that was not where he was trying to go with this; Phiel or not, the icy young Frei was still floating in his doorway, and Phiel was hers. The redhead made absolutely no effort to hide his distaste for her guardian, but he floated aside, nonetheless.

"Come in," he offered, waving a pale hand into the small apartment. The dirty look Varun shot Phiel made it painfully clear who the offer was for, but he did not actually verbally assault his guardian's "boyfriend". He was far more interested in Zurine and the seasonal Frei drifted just a fraction closer, folding an arm over his naked chest and dipping his head in what might be called a bow. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Zurine. My name is..." The leviathan paused, looking confused. "Varun, like you said. How did you know my name?"

Keeping one eye on her volatile charge, Kinsey scuttled around the shards of wood and motioned for Phiel to join them inside before she approached her door. "I'm sorry. He's been in his room, he's very...cranky." To put it lightly, anyways. "He's grounded." Kinsey spared the bodyguard an apologetic glance before staring back down at her poor, innocent door. "Damnit. How am I going to get this back on its hinges? Can you work with doors...tools...something...Phi?"

Daintily, Zurine tilted her head, watching Varun. Well, he seemed to deflate fast, didn't he? She filed the information away for later examination, and primly floated forward into the apartment at his invitation, over whatever remnants of door happened to be unhappily lingering in the frame. His bow made her smile, however, that careful curve that showed more in her eyes than on her lips -- and her voice canted up with pleasure. Though he had treated her a bit shortly at first, she would not dismiss him out of hand.

"Thank you," murmured Zuri, very quietly, dipping her own pseudo-curtsy, with her gaze fastened on Varun in something like fascination. "He said." One arm gestured delicately at her baffled guardian, and her smile deepened, faintly mischievous as she drifted forward, radiating cool air in her slightly unsure situation. "Pleasure to meet..."

A small sigh escaped Phiel, and he looked down at the door and up at Kinsey. "It is all right. At least he doesn't seem inclined to treat Zurine badly..." He snorted slightly, and ran a hand back through his hair as he bent to pick up a large, thick bit of shattered door. "I can work with tools, yes, but I don't think there's anything I can do with this door in particular. It would appear to be quite, quite dead." His voice gained an element of wry humor, but he leaned down to drop a kiss at the crown of Kinsey's head. "I can buy you a new door, though...?"

Varun inhaled sharply when the air temperature dropped. Green eyes widening just a fraction, his nostrils flared and he tipped his head. What a curious Frei indeed, that she might change the very nature of the space around them. "The pleasure is mine," he muttered, before realizing he had said that only moments before. Ribbon twitching, the leviathan's cheeks burned as though he'd seen far too much sun.

Quick to change the scenario, he drifted deeper into his home, motioning for Zurine to follow him further away from the watchful guardians. As long as Kinsey kept looking at him like that, Varun knew nothing was going to be very possible. "This is my home," he said, waving a hand loftily. "The woman is Mine, as well. Her name is Kinsey." Green eyes twinkled mischievously. "As Phiel is Yours, correct? Yours, and no one else's?"

Kinsey, meanwhile, was busy mourning the tragic defeat of her door. Glancing up only when Phi placed his lips to her head, she offered him a brave smile and finally stood by the man's side. "Oh, you don't have to do that, Phi," she murmured. "And I wouldn't worry too much about Varun and Zurine. He's angry with me, and he's always been...well...much better behaved with females." Inching a little bit closer, but not wanting to initiate the hug herself, Kinsey decided she probably owed the bodyguard a bit more of an explanation.

"I...was forced to arrest Varun, the other day. And he wasn't going easily, so my partner...tazed him." The cop bit back a smile. It had been sort of nice, to see the sea monster finally get what he deserved. Of course, the pleasure had lasted about 3.9 seconds, until she realized what kind of wrath the leviathan was capable of. "So, as you can see. He's unimpressed with me, right now."

The dainty owl frei's dark eyes roamed the interior of the apartment, her head cocked delicately to one side and her expression somewhat unreadable. Her teeth nibbled at her full lower lip -- this house was not the same as Phiel's. She did not feel safe here, this was Varun's nest, not her own, but as on-guard as she felt like being, the leviathan was oddly personable. She liked the twinkle in those pretty green eyes, and the way he reacted to the coolness in the air. A curious creature, Zurine thought.

"Phiel is Phiel's," she replied primly, the mischief fading from her for a moment as she drew herself up, slender shoulders drawn in and a decidedly feminine expression of birdlike amusement. "But mine too, yes. And," with a little, low laugh in a contralto range, "Kinsey's. So he says."

A faint laugh escaped Phiel, and the bodyguard shook his head. His arm rose and gently wrapped around Kinsey, tugged her a little closer in a comforting motion, soothing as he could make it. He was growing used to this 'boyfriend' business, he thought, and sighed. "Well, I suppose that at least you know what can take him down now... though I don't carry a tazer, and you would do well to keep one near you, Kinsey," Phiel murmured quietly. "For your safety. Of course, I would much prefer to be able to keep an eye on you myself, but... just be careful, all right?"

For someone who was -- and had always been -- decidedly closed-off emotionally, Phiel was trying very hard to be a good man, and an open one. His smile was faint and quick, however, restrained as ever. "Still, I can entirely understand that he would be angry. Several thousand volts do not a cheerful individual make, and with his grudges..." One gloved hand flicked, a gesture of amusement. "Do you think he will settle...?"

Varun watched Zurine with a guarded expression as she explained the state of her guardian. His own, Zurine's and Kinsey's? As far as the sea monster was concerned, that was far too many people to posses one single being. Varun was his own, and no one else's, as was Kinsey his, and no one else's. It was a simple thing, though the more the redhead pondered the theory, the less he knew how to explain it to this young Frei. Flicking his bright wings, he cleared his throat and tossed his head.

"They talk. We should leave." His green eyes shimmered in the dull light as he glanced towards the open door. There was little either human could do to stop him, he reckoned, when he could ghost by them with Zurine by his side. Adjusting his tiara, Varun continued to try to sell the wintery Frei on his sudden inspiration. "There are things to explore. Much better than these four walls. I do not belong in these four walls. Kinsey keeps me here. Like a prisoner."

The guardian in question did not miss the sharp look her charge shot her as he tried to win Zurine over to his side in the argument. Rolling her eyes and shaking her head, glancing back over at the body guard. Hopefully he hadn't been listening to the parallel conversation to closely. "I try not to make him angry," Kinsey admitted with a small sigh, "but I think that's only making him worse. Varun seems to have the idea he owns everything he sees." She shook her head.

She couldn't help but brighten as Phiel tried to offer her a smile, chucking softly before leaning up to kiss his cheek. "I suppose you're right. He is a beast of legendary wrath, though. I've no idea how long I'll be weathering this storm, but I'm sort of hoping he'll get bored of sulking in his room and give it up. He's got to grow up and take responsibility for his actions someday." The cop paused, and snorted at the very idea. "On second thought, maybe he'll just give up the hunger strike. He's no Ghandi, after all."

Tilting her head, Zurine regarded Varun with that delicate, guarded look. Where would they go? Why did they need to leave? And would exploring really be worth doing? Clearing her throat softly, the owl frei looked up. "Where do we go? And what is... prisoner?" While she was not necessarily inclined to obey Phiel, Zurine could not see a reason to disobey. But he had not said she had to stay here, and Varun was older and wiser, yes?

Yes. This was a good idea.

"I will continue to say," Phiel said rather gently, "that he needs a firmer hand, though I don't know if you really are able to exert such force on, as you say, a beast of legendary wrath." Shaking his head, he lazily rubbed at Kinsey's back, his palm warm and soothing, though he didn't know it. "Perhaps Zurine will be a cooling influence on all that rage." The thought made him smile, though Phiel had no illusions -- he only hoped it would not go the other direction. She was enough of a handful on her own, and him with no idea how to parent a child!
