So in a couple some odd months, I want to purchase a new rifle. My SKS is alright, but I want something more like a main battle rifle. What do you guy think of DSA's STG 58?

The one I shot was sweet as hell. And I hear good about them. They are expensive, though.

I'm willing to pay the price for one. I've always been a fan of the FN FAL.

I like it on principle, but I've been considering their Para Tactical version.

What about an SVT-40, to go with your SKS? Ammo's cheap as dirt, too.

I dislike it for the same reason I dislike the FAL: it's too ******** long. Being too ******** long and not as heavy sounds like a better deal though.
Not to say the FAL is a shitty gun, but it's just short of four feet long. They really couldn't have made it any shorter?

I actually like it a little more than the FAL in terms of looks. I think the fixed stock looks better than the FAL's folding stock.
It's basically just an Austrian FAL, right?

Just like they have ARs with long ******** barrels, and short ******** barrels. Though I have never seen an AR with a barrel longer than 24", I have heard of an AR-type weapon with a 30" barrel. In any case, a full-size, 20" AR is considerably more compact than a FAL with a comparable barrel length. I consider this a design flaw, personally. My SMLE has two inches on the FAL, and the No. 1 was designed before years began with "19".
