one of my favorite fish stores started selling tatooed mollies. they all looked so sad, it was heartbreaking gonk they have all these nasty little pink hearts all over them and pink and blue spots.

needless to say i complained to one of the employees and i plan to call and complain alot more too.

usually this place is so wonderful, the only animals they sell are fish and they always take such good care of their fish and they sell some hard to find pet supplies and its the only place i get my dog food from because all the products there are so cheap compared to other stores.

i wish i could buy them all so they wouldnt have to live there anymore but i know the store would just assume that meant that tattoo fish are big sellers and just order more

The whole practice of tattooing/ dyeing fish is just disgusting! Why can't people just appreciate fish the way they are? I don't get how anyone could knowingly subject an animal to so much needless suffering just to have a "prettier" fish.

Yeah, the store where I work ordered "jellybean" blood parrot cichlids once- I went straight to the guy in charge of ordering the fish and basically went berserk (I'm surprised I wasn't fired, actually). We haven't had them since. 3nodding

That's messed up. I wrote a final paper for my AP Bio class back in my senior year in high school about fish painting. Awareness should be promoted on the issue.

Btw, Ammonia Spike, is your avatar supposed to be Amelia Earhart?

quite honestly, they aren't tattooing the fish. it is just a mutation is all. for all you glofish lovers out there, this is just an additional member to the genetically tampered fish. and even if they are tattooing the fish, it is the public's fault for showing their patronage with their dollars.

It is true that genetic manipulation falls in the category of Juiced Fish, but injecting dye is another, and older method.
There are about 6 ways to manipulate the colour of a fish;
° Genetic manipulation, such as with glow fish.
° Injecting a dye, which has a high mortality rate.
° The newer variation of this is by using lasers instead of needles.
° Dipping the fish in a dye solution.
° Feeding a fish colourants which may or may not be harmful, depending on the colourant used.
° Another method is by giving the fish hormones that will trigger it to show it's mating colors.

Blaming it on the public is taking the easy way out. That's like saying that it's the public's fault that the media is sensational, or that it's the public's fault that obesity is on the rise.
You can't blame everything on the mass, people need to be made conscious and be shown their responsibility. Be it on a social, financial, political or moral level.
People buy these fish because they don't know the truth behind it. This not only a fight against cruelty but also against mass ignorance.

I'm not sure which fish has it worse, blood parrots or fancy goldfish. But honestly, why can't people enjoy normal shaped pets :/

clearly, none of you have done true studies on this. ok, you can tattoo your fish, but not with needles. it is done with lights. radiowaves if that makes more sense. there is no injection, it is not as abusive as youi make it out to be, and personally, i don't really care. the fact is people are buying these things, and you can't stop the public from getting what they want. i mean, all you americans should freakin' know that by now...
